Better to be Certain - New L5R Fiction

Be sure to check back every other Wednesday for new Legend of the Five Rings fiction, as well as new information on Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game, Battle for Rokugan, and the Legend of the Five Rings Roleplaying Game Beta.

Please, FFG! Don't set a schedule for L5R fiction! That can kill the quality of the writing. It is infinitely better to have fiction only a couple times a year and it be amazing than to have it frequently and have craptastic pieces...

"Of that you can be certain"

Such an excellent fiction. I really like the much deeper and subtler characterization of the clans FFG is going with. First the Dragon, then the Scorpion, and now the Crab. Clans whose characters could  easily devolve into caricature. But so far, the essence of their Clans has been captured with nuance. Great job. I don't know how well the broad plot strokes will work, but the small personal stories have been excellent so far. Except for the Lion. The Lion fictions, and there depictions therein have been bad. The rest are excellent though.

A new fiction has gone up - https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/12/13/wildcats-and-dragon-teeth/

Whilst all of the L5R card game short stories have been good, this one is particularly poignant given the week's duelling rules updates.

It's unlikely that the average L5R RPG character is going to be training or even meeting the Imperial Heir, but the concept that a character could find themselves in a duel which it is socially unacceptable to win, but equally socially unacceptable to obviously 'throw' is a fairly easy one to picture...

It might be an interesting narrative thought experiment to see how such a duel might go if a player and a relatively poor opponent (let's use the Seasoned Courtier for the sake of argument and having some stats) were to be fighting a sparring bout with Bokken.
