New meta predictions

Recommended Posts

So with the new FAQ completely killing of a lot of popular character combinations as well as severely impacting other lists, what do you all think the new tier 1 lists are going to be? Emo twins seems somewhat intact, will Vader/Guard become popular again, and maybe a resurgence of phasma/trooper/guavian.

Would love to see what you all think will rise to the top.

With the change to VibroKnife decks that rely heavily on shields, Training Day and such, very likely will see a resurgence. This also allows the new Obi Wan and his Lightsaber to really shine. Shields will once again be a good investment with heroes.

I see eKylo2/GG becoming popular for the red/blue combo, and eBossk/ePhasma2 for yellow/red. I also see eRey2/QGJ becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Yeah. I was more specifically speaking about Hero decks that the RRG changes helped. Since the fields at most big tournaments lately have been 80+% Villian.

It will switch the other way, Villains got hit hard here

I guess that's a matter of opinion, there are a lot of people that might say that villains simply got pulled back in line with heroes, because honestly the disparity between villains and hero was so massively obvious.

Also Emo Twins, Vader/Guard and Phasma/trooper/guavian are all virtually untouched, I think villains are just fine

All hail the new meta queen Sabine.

I wouldn’t Hail her as meta queen yet. Still a lot of solid contenders, new and old, out there. Especially since you can’t lockout with the new errata no matter what.

And flip-flopping DL-44's into a Second Chance is no longer possible either.   She's even more of a glass cannon now.

I dare say an Ambush deck with Awakenings Han and Poe2 is probably more potent right now because of Han’s sheer longevity.

And the sign of a good meta is....

No one can agree on what that meta is! :)

That’s why I loved the SoR meta, the (mostly) broad representation. eKylo/eVader2, eUnkar/FN/Trooper, eUnkar/DT/Trooper, eVader+1, etc. Hoping to see that kind of diversity moving forward into regionals and Worlds PT. 2. Especially with so many potential combos out there now ranging from big/little, double elites, triples, 5-dice, and four-wides all bringing something to the table.

-Obvious resurgences gonna be shields. Quigon/Rey in any conbinations (both new and old).
-Sabine gonna be new Poe imo - fast glass cannon with shtload of damage.
-A can already see some nice K2 deck.
-Rieekan mill - now that vibro is nerfed he gonna rock.
-Vader with something else than Phasma

I can see LOTS of interesting hero decks rise to power , but in the same time im really interested what villains will cook up.

I’m hoping four character vehicle decks rise up. Gonna try out Jango/Phasma2 see how that works.

I also think high cost hero pairing with Rey could be good to great again...the Quigon/Han/Luke ones. Also K2/new Rey deserves another look?

Was playing with a Gamorrean/Magnagaurd x2 deck the other day. Looks like they could be a nasty trio.

Sabine cant lock  you out anymore thanks to "discard to reroll" no longer requires dice to reroll (0 is indeed, any number of dice). She also will eat your only overwrite per round whenever you activate her to abuse DL44 spam.

She's kinda forced to be played a bit more normal rather than an action thief.

The Replace rule being once per round (not turn) will effect everyone across the  board. Padawan's can't  ramp up nearly as fast.

honestly I think all of the characters that received point adjustments are all still very playable. FN can still overwrite once a turn so likely still getting out at least 2 roll and resolve a round (2/5 cards in your hand) and still has 11 health with 3 damage sides for 12 points on 1 die and 15 on 2 die. Just compare him to Riekkan for heroes same health pool I would still argue FN's ability is better, but I would argue that Reikan's dice not having a pay side evens that out. Sure they are 2 very different characters with different uses but the 2 aren't out of whack with one another any more. The next comparison is look at Phasma vs Ackbar, again same point cost but phasma has MORE health they both have a 1 side a 2 side phasma trades Ackbars ability (which I think is still pretty darn good and why I still prefer ackbar at 1 die over 2 die) for a strong special. When the game came out they said they were comparing characters to other characters within the same cost and this much better fits that theme. The only character I am a little ???? about is Unkar getting a 2 point adjustment, I can see him taking a 1 point adjustment, but as a pure support character at 12/15 he is looking pretty rough especially with the nerf to Imperial Inspection don't know if Unkar will still see play, that said I still think Thrawnkar will be a viable deck as even at 1 die Unkar adds a lot to thrawns arsenal, but I also think we may see some other options with Thrawn like Old Kylo, or 1 dice Baby Vader, or 1 Dice cad, or maybe you run thrawn at 1 die with ciena and bala-tik or just EThrawn E Ciena that does this heavy red vehicle deck or something. Point is I think the old characters are still... good, I think they could use some new partners, but I don't think they are devoid of partners and I think the biggest thing with this change is the opened up design space, 10/13 characters no longer have to be as bonkers good as Unkar or FN to see play, 9 point characters don't have to match 1 die Phasma to see play.

I have to agree, the once broken characters have been downgraded to good. They are still very playable unlike many characters that are complete trash and I hope they get a reprinting in a future set that makes them playable.

I'm okay with the errata, but I'm finally done spending money on a game that can't print it right the first time!  This is not a complaint because I think the changes make sense, but I'm out.  Enjoy it everyone!  It's simply not worth my time anymore.

No, it’s a whiny cry for attention from someone who really mustn’t have much exposure to CCGs and the fact that things like this are commonplace. Bye!
