But in all seriousness we just saw a stripped down U wing

I assumed that "wingless U-wings" were the updated version of this ship - the U-Wing's civilian variant:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/BT-45D

and that the details given for it on Wookieepedia for length and number of engines, were just conjecture from the assumption that it was, aside from hyperdrive and weapons, identical to a regular U-wing.

"Two-engine U-Wings with no extending wings" sounds like a new way to represent the civilian model. If you look closely  at the start ofIn the Name of The Rebellion Part 1, when Hera's crashing at Yavin IV, there are similar ships present.

Not sure why the insistence on the stops. Any ship in SW can hover over ground, and if you reduce thrust in atmo drag will start to brake you, meaning speedy ships like squints will shoot right past you.

Just like top gun.

Just like top gun.

And at the same time this will work a lot worse in space, which is our setting for X-Wing. So basically in atmospheric flight EVERY ship has a red zero. :)

I think the reason Ezra is able to last so long is not upgraded shields, but his pilot skill: He's stressed and flipping a pair of eyeballs into an evade every time he gets fired on.

No, he's not evading ****.  Those hits are clearly hitting him.

He get's shot, like, 10 times with no discernible damage.  Meanwhile, half that many hits on an Arquitens last week cripples the thing.

That's because the TIE/D is an amazing piece of Imperial engineering and the 3 shield value they gave it was insulting.

FFG was always kind of low-balling the Defender. In the original work they were like, invincible killing machines, so broken Thrawn had to invent Missile Boats, which had SLAM and trucks full of ordnance to stop them when they went rogue.

BTW in-case you didn't know that Defenders were basically made to be stolen. Their most accurate use is in Imperial vs Imperial games.

Agreed.  It had the same shields as a B-Wing in XvT.  So it should have at least a 5.

So here is our D title fix? Increase shields by two + jamming beams?

The shields and the hull of the B-wing in this game are swaped.

Anyway, here is the true Elite.

You got the extra guns and shields represented.  The boost and evade actions represent it's improved maneuverability.  And a system slot just for how advanced the ship is.

Any fair price for this upgrade would make it the only ship that ever gets played. There's literally no downside to this ship. It's an agility tank with access to autothrusters. With 8 health. It's super maneuverable, and can both boost and barrel roll.

What weaknesses does this ship have that opponents can exploit?

To be fair, I've always felt the fighter v capital ships in rebels to be... shortcuted (its a word now) for episode length, the only time they really showed a fighter taking down a capital ship legitimately was when Vader went all Sith Lord on phoenix home in the season 2 opening.  Their fighter v fighter battles have always been much closer to what you would expect to take place.  The taking down of an Arquitens, or Star Destroyer, or even a Gozanti, is typically fast forwarded and simplified to fit in a 22 minute episode, or, more accurately, to fit in whatever spare time they have between story segments.

What REALLY is telling about the power and effectiveness of the TIE Defender, is Thrawns statement regarding the pilot skill gap, and how well a Defender did while flown by a poor pilot compared to the Interceptors piloted by highly skilled and experienced pilots.

What?! No way... stats like this are for large base Scum ships only. Everybody knows that.

Green dice. Those little bastardz betray every ship that leans on them... plus, get 2 four red dice ships at range 2 with this in arc and it’ll get torn up (and 2x4 shots are not tough in this meta)

Ironically/fittingly, 60 points of Gunboat can drop this in an alpha

If that were the case, then the price wouldn't be "fair".  A fair price puts it on even footing with all other fairly priced ships.  If it looks like it has no downsides, then the cost must become the downside.

But I could easily see a fully loaded one costing 50 points or more.

So a small base Aggressor with barrel roll? I think you could price it to be balanced, but the base price would be in the 40 range.

I honestly think you need to make this a separate ship entirely if you wanted to do it justice. It could be a Rebel/Imperial ship. I don't think we will ever see another expansion that is going to help the current Defender.

Yes, make it a new ship entirely:

4, 4, 3, 5 or 3, 3, 3, 5

Missile, Missile, System, Cannon

Focus, TL, Boost, Reload

Vult Skerris and Valen Rudor pilots.

Crew for Thrawn?

Titles

Mods (for origional Defender too)

Harpoons in the pack

Also a 4 die attack. This ship will _delete_ basically anything it comes up against.

So no. It’s a HLC Major Vynder with an engine upgrade and vectored thrusters (so about 46 points). That’s nasty, using most unified ship cost equations, it comes in at a little over 50 points.... and I can think of quite a few 50 point builds that can take something like this on.

I never understood why FFG didn't double down on System slots on all ships of the Advanced line. It could be the imperial niche.  It should be really.

These ships were not produced in large scale because of their price. They were too good for production. ATC would be nice on them as well.

Rebels have Regen and turrets (and bombs... soo very good bombs)

Scum have dirty tricks and unreasonable EPTs and pricing, I guess.

Imps could have agile fighters, two kinds. Cheap and plentiful, and expensive ones hitting really hard.

The dream.
