This would be much better in Strange Eons.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. As this free tool that I spent a lot of time working on is apparently worthless to you, I'll happily offer you a full refund on the money you paid for it, no questions asked; how does that sound?

I'm sorry if my quick response angered you. I do appreciate your effort, but you sure are bitter, man!

I have Windows 10, and have been unable to get the file to load correctly. Norton's continues to block it from running... so far your file has been worthless to me for this reason. I did mean my comment as constructive feedback. Strange Eons has been the preferred means of running these custom card creators for FFG games.

I meant no disrespect, and your effort is valuable to the community. Alas, for me it is only frustrating that I haven't found a way to run the file (and it would be easier to so in Strange Eons).

Here's a thought; Is anyone able to set up a webpage that runs this? So anyone can use it, regardless of what OS they're running?

That'd be less work than a Strange Eons extension (which would be a complete rewrite with no possibility of sharing or reusing code at all), but still non-trivial sadly. Never say never, but not something I'm likely to get round to any time soon I'm afraid. Sorry.

If anyone else wants to take a crack at it, I guess it'd probably be easiest as a .NET MVC web page hosted in an Azure Windows VM, re-using the non-UI assemblies from the app already released. Someone with a working knowledge of C# and MVC could probably figure out how to do this just by using Reflector on the released DLLs, or I can provide the PDBs or even the full source on request (with no commitment to any more support than that). There'd be some work involved, but it'd mostly be the front end - the back end parts should be relatively straightforward to reuse, to get something working. (It wouldn't be particularly efficient to do it that way as the card image would have to be resent from the server to the client with every change; to properly fit the web paradigm you'd want to generate the image on the client too, but that puts us back in "complete rewrite" territory).

nitpicks:

- Surge abilities on the deployment card are always available for non-heroes when they perform attacks unless specified otherwise.
- What are allied characters? Do you mean friendly figures? Also, do you mean "suffers 1dmg" (instead of absorbs)?
- What is subsequent attack? Anytime during the game, or during this activation? Why "would suffer"? What are the cases that this "would suffer" covers compared to "if the target suffers"?
- Typo "targe".

1.  I was thinking of Biv, but I was thinking of him in Campaign with close and personal and that you didn't get surge abilities with the red and yellow attack dice attack.

2. Absorbs means, and I'm sure there is a better way to say it, if Kirk is attacked and suffers 3 damage, and there is 1 friendly (is that preferable to allied) character is adjacent, they take 1 of the three damage.  If there are 2 adjacent, they each take 1 of the 3 damage.

3. Definitely needs to be reworded.  I meant if the attack follows this action.  I will work on my wording.

No problem on the nitpicking, i enjoy the feedback from people who are much better players than myself.  And, besides, it was more of me playing with the editor.

Wording fix:

everyone's red shirt: While defending, you may apply -1 damage per each friendly adjacent figure. If you do, each adjacent friendly figure suffers 1 damage. Limit once per round

<action> set for stun: During this activation, if a hostile figure would suffer 1 or more damage, that figure also becomes stunned

unless you're thinking of the cc "set for stun"

Set For Stun

Would you have time/ambition to tweak this out to make the character boards for the campaign side?

Never say never, but I'd have to say it's unlikely in the foreseeable future I'm afraid.

For reasons of motivation/selfishness (delete as you consider fit) I build these kind of tools for my own use first and foremost, then share with others so they can use them too. With so many campaign missions tweaking cards for "boss fights", plus from an urge to make completely new units, a Deployment Card editor was the thing I was most interested in building, so that's what I did. The next thing I'm most interested in doing (other than an army list builder, for which there are already plenty made by others) would be a mission designer; I think there's a fairly sizeable gap in the market for that, so as and when I get the urge to do something else, that's what would be next. Custom Heroes are cool, so a Hero editor is on the "to do" list - but there's enough official ones to keep our group going for a while yet so it's not something I'm in a rush to do. And I'll probably never get around to all the other card types, because I don't feel particularly inclined to make my own (there's enough Agenda / Item / Command / etc. cards available to last a lifetime).

I'm fairly sure there's PSDs for Hero Sheets and Hero Class Cards kicking around the web - if they're not linked from this forum, have a look on Board Game Geek maybe? They're nowhere near as easy to use as a purpose-built editor (particularly if, like me, you have no artistic talent) but they are an option if you're really keen to make your own.

The latter ability is also not spending surges, it is converting them.

"While attacking" is a wording for timing. It means that because "convert" removes and adds symbols from and to the attack pool, it happens during step 4 of the attack. Spending surges would be step 5, but with the ability there will never be surges to spend.

So, because there are surge abilities, some rethinking would be in order in any case. ("you may convert any number of surges to dmg." ?)

(Recover is missing the damage symbol.)

Yeah, the wording is off (please, by all means, suggest proper wording!), but the point of the card is, that it "steals" the surges from whoever attacks it (so they can't use them), and spends them while defending... and as such, it can't use its own surges, so I just tried to make them something else...

What about a wording like this (I'm just experimenting):

"While defending, the attacker can and must spend as many surges as possible on your surge abilities. The abilities affect you, instead of them."

I finally had a go at a character I really want to see in a future expansion or figure pack:

5a133d44be066_DeploymentCard-Rebellion-RexCloneWars-Veteran(Unique)custom.jpg.d336c977fc05daee4f4ee6620b2fb79a.jpg

I thought I'd give him a slightly negative ability with Old Geezer, but still make Rex very interesting and tactical with his Veteran Tactics ability. The goal ist to represent characters through interesting and fitting mechanics, not make them too good in every aspect, right? I'd like to hear some feedback and constructive comments to maybe refine the card.

Might be worth the effort in the near future to create “Legends of the Alliance” Imperial/Scum Deployment cards to avoid confusion.

  • Completely delete any “may” or “choose” abilities on cards (page 8)
  • Add in the Bonus Effect (page 14)
  • Eliminate the speed value (instructions will govern movement)
  • Rank surges from highest priority to lowest priority (page 17)

Of course, time will tell if aspects like bonus effects and surge priorities are constant throughout the campaign.

I don't think it's worth any effort. You can easily use the original deployment cards.

You can use the abilities with "may" and "choose" in a house-rule hard-hard mode. Or when your dice rolls succeed too well.

Time will tell if bonus effects are what their name suggests.

Interesting idea. I'll keep an eye on the app and when we know more about it, if it looks useful to do, so I'll take a look at adding any necessary additional support to this tool (perhaps like the blue "BONUS" box you show in your example). In the short term at least it should be easy enough to make the cards with the changes you mention in the tool as-is, for those who wish to.

I wonder how consistent the app will be with units it uses? If Stormtroopers (again for example) are the same every time they appear in the app, it might be worth making cards. No-one's going to bother printing such cards if they change for every mission though.

I notice that there is an icon in the app (or at least, the supporting rules PDF) for "attack action" - I'd like to add at least that to the app, if nothing else. @a1bert, any possibility of adding it to your very useful font please? :)
