These lists will DEFINE the meta

Recommended Posts

My buddy @Brigadierblu and I just tested out the new HotE content and constructed lists that will be sure to dominate for waves to come.  There is no question: these super lists will carve up Scum Hunters and Ugnauts alike.  Prepare yourselves!

First, my list (which is of course Rebels).  One of the trends I've seen is the push for higher activations.  Well, I'm here to tell you that trend is about to be shattered.  My list had only five activations, and what's more--it had only five figures.  That's right.  Count 'em.  You don't even need to worry about objectives when you dominate so hard.

The Rebels Ultra List:

New Han 10
Drokkatta 9
Kotun 7
Ahsoka 8
Jarrod 5
Balance of the Force 1

Now, it may look like I just threw at random as many new cards together as I could, but that would be a drastic underestimation of the power of this legit list.  Han hits hard and dies quick.  Drokkatta, without access to focus, is hit or miss.  Kotun was a heavy long distance striker, until he went down in round 3 before activating.  Jarrod made short work of Vader, carving the Sith Lord up one whole damage at a time.  And Ahsoka ocassionally whiffed but generally hit pretty hard.  And don't get me started on the command card synergy this list provides!  Rather than burrow down into one or two traits, I was able to dip into ALL of them!

Of course, I lost, but that's only because John brought the perfect counter.

The Imperial All-Melee Brute Squad!
Vader 13
Palp 8
eRiot x2 16
Officer 2
Zillo 1

The slow Imperial March of doom!  These guys took a long time to get to me (well, less than you would expect because I charged them some in round 2), but once they got there they hit like a truck!  Vader sucks up damage like the best in da biz, and Palp made life difficult for everyone with his extra attack and Force Lightning.  And those eRiots were both hearty and heavy hitting (and surprisingly annoying).  The officer came just as support, commanded specifically by Palp not to attack as it would break from the thematic naming of this list.  In the end, it came down to our last units, but John managed to edge me out for the win.

So, what are the take-aways?  Five activations are the meta of the future!  Ranged attacks are overrated!

And also, it was a lot of fun to play casual again :-).  I am psyched about Regionals (probably heading to the KS and maybe the Dallas or Omaha one), and can't wait to figure out what list I'll take to those (and thanks to @brettpkelly and @dietz057 for their quality analyses that help me sort out my thinking along those lines), but for the first few games, I'm just going to throw some plastic on the map and smash things :-)

Happy gaming!

eRiots only cost 14 for two sets. I'm pretty sure you're missing an officer maybe?

Ha ha, no I remember that we both had only five activations, which made the game interesting.  But now I remember, he realized after the game he had left out those two points by accident (I think he meant to have a second officer).  That just makes his super list all the more dominating!

Also come to the Dallas regional! I still need revenge for Luke embarrassing me during our match on S2 Vassal tourney.

I'd like to!  It's rough that the KS and Dallas ones are back to back...  But it'd be nice to know a familiar face (or, uh, avitar :-) ) would be there!

I had miscounted my list and only ended up with 38 points, but that was enough to bring doom down upon @ryanjamal! Muhahaha!

seriously though, I was impressed with the riot troopers, they could take a couple hits before going down and having professional was great on mitigating rolls without surges. Also the strain on damage was satisfying:)

Also want to add that Tempt with the Emperor is awesome. I got his Drokatta down to two or three health and then kept tempting him each round after (he retreated back to the deployment zone out of my reach). While it was giving him dmg power tokens, he had to make a decision on whether to keep the block power tokens he had received earlier in the match.

I played a game using a rebel list with both Jarrod and Ahsoka and i managed to do the impossible:
Ahsoka leaping and dealing with EoS 9 damage to Palpatine, plus 3 more damage with Right Back at Ya when Palpy attacked for revenge (yeah, 1 off lethal -_- but Hera finished the job);
Jarrod flying for 5 + 2 for the leap and (get ready for this....) striking enemy's Vader for 7 freaking damage! (i attacked with the companion adiacent, rerolled one die into max roll and removed vader's defense rerolling die with the command card into 7 damage pierce 3, and he used zillo already *-*)

If i well remember, this is the list i used against that empire list:

Luke Skywalker (Jedi) 12
Ahsoka Tano 8
Hera Syndulla 4
Jarrod Kelvin 5
Davith Elso 6
C-3PO 2
Gideon Argus 3
Heroic Effort 0

But at the moment i'm starting to believe that Han might be even better than Luke, so maybe i'll try to sort a list out with the both of them...

Yeah, Han is legit.  He requires careful play since he's so squishy, but he is worth his points.  I've thought about throwing them together too, but that's a lot of points.

Jedi Luke 12
Han 10
eRangers 12
Hera 4
c3PO 2

Not sure that does it, figure count-wise, but it'd be fun.  Really, Rebels still need a 6-8 2-figure squad on the new power curve to make use of all of these new figures.  But I look forward to throwing all sorts of lists together in the meantime :-)

5 activations and no gideon is no good deal XD
i've had a couple of ideas, something like

Luke Jedi 12
Han RS 10
Ahsoka 8 -> Drokkata 9
Jarrod 5 -> Hera 4
Gideon 3
C-3PO 2
Heroic Effort 0

I'm in full love with Ahsoka, i'd marry her if she were real, so i'd never play rebel without her XD

I really don't think that Palpatine will match very well with Vader. I need more testing to be sure but I think the AT-DP is his best bet. That and some eJets for the occasional attack is what I've been running with him.

Well, i made a couple of lists with only palpatine, but for god sake emperor + vader is pure flavour *-* <3
This is a list with Palpatine only:

Palpatine 8
Terro 7
eJet 7
eRiot 7
Dewback 5
2x rOfficer 4
Zillo 1
Rule by Fear 1

Looks pretty strong but needs further testing :/
The ATDP is a question mark, ok that Vader costs 13 but it's true aswell that Palp + ATDP is 17 points...

It's not the points that scare me (though that is a factor) but how difficult it will be to consistently use "Emperor" on melee units.

Yeah, that's my issue aswell.
One good point on having Vader + Palpatine is that you have a guaranteed choke + tempt each turn (maybe 2 chokes) and that's really interesting i have to say (choke + tempt potentially kills C-3PO if the opponent doesn't discard)
As for reaching the opponent with your melee units, i suppose you have to focus on mobility with some of your command cards, while (paradox) i usually never have any issue with Palpatine's speed, i always get in LoS within 4 spaces (officers help a lot) so the main issue is surviving rather than reaching your figures to use emperor

It's not speed I worry about either. It's melee units having targets. Yes you can always try to put them next to an already activated unit but that's not always going to pan out. Having a reliable 4-5 range shot from a Trooper or someone imo will be better with Palpatine.

True, that's why i always try to keep 1 or 2 ranged activations in the lists (a.k.a. sentry droids / eJet / dewback / Terro lately)
I've never properly tested the impact rSentries have in a list with both Vader and Palp, i guess i'll see which list to adopt once i get an idea of the overall performance

Yeah, sometimes this is all we need to do.

Just 1 negative point: WHERE IS HEROIC EFFORT?!!11!?? WOULD MADE A NEED-TO-BAN ULTRA OP LIST. If you had Heroic, you would've won easily

It's so fun sometimes to just put things together and have a blast. My latest two thematics list was the Tatooine army: Bantha, 2xeTusken, Obi-wan, R2, C3 and eJawa
And the newest was a Imperial crowd control team: Terro, 2x Dewback, eJet, 2xeRiot and rOfficer (I don't see any opression)
