How to use the Decimator

Recommended Posts

I have used 4 Decimators, 3 Gladiators and  Gozanti before, I love the Deci, when you use them together you have an 88 point ship with 32 hull and throwing out 12 Black or Blue dice.

I'm looking to try it with a Screed, Raider/Overload pulse, ISD/Avenger list with a couple of Gozantis for padding, Dengar is there to stop the Deci's being tied by fighters, rather than just blowing through them. All comments welcome, it will get hurt by a Sqn heavy list, but can deal out some carnage against most mixed fleets.

I think once you get into this realm though, wouldn't 2xDecimators+Jendon+marek be better than 3xDecimator + Jendon and 4XDecimators?

I would be a contrarian here as I prefer 3xDecimator + Jendon (actually 2xDecimator + Morna Kee + Jendon) to 2xDecimator + Jendon + Maarek.

My reasoning is this: in this fleet Maarek would be an obvious first target, so you would get 1, maybe 2 rounds of shooting with him. So the important factor is the health. In this case 6hp with brace vs 8hp without brace feels about the same, however Decimator has Counter 1, and this is something that tips the scale in my case,  given that in a heavy decimator fleet counter would come into play often enough to not be discounted.

I've now played 3 games with the following fleet, all have been resounding wins (8/3, 9/2, 10/1) that features morna kee. In my opinion she is absolutely vital to how the fleet functions. No Intel here, this fleet just annihilates the squads. It forces the opponent to choose between attacking the big hull squads that wreck ships late game but take forever to chew through while the huge dice pool anti squad squads tear them down, or focus the little hull scatter squads I'm perfectly happy to trade in order to clear out the opponents squads so Norma Jendon and Maarek can clean ships off the board. I haven't faced GH or Sloane yet, figure those will be the struggle.
