Anyone Have Ghosts of Dathomir Yet?

Maybe our expectations were running a bit high on this one?

This is the impression that I've been getting. Since this books announcement, everyone has been speculating on new equipment, rules, and all sorts of player-specific goodies. And while FFG has started to provide those in their adventure supplements to a small extent, these are still adventure modules.

Personally, I'm pretty meh on lack of content for Dathomir. I've seen TCW and Rebels and I have access to Wookieepedia, and the minimum amount of creativity needed to fill in the gaps and sprinkle in my own custom content.

Sadly, you get virtually nothing of the actual Nightsisters in this book. There's a little blurb about them and how you should play them as a GM if the players absolutely insist on finding a clan of them, and there's a pretty pathetic "Nightsister ghost" enemy for the big final battle. You don't even get stats or anything for a standard Nightsister, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, part of my impatience/excitement for it was that I was postponing one of my players’ storylines for it to come out, since it involves her going home to Dathomir. While there are some interesting bits and pieces to use in general, nothing that really called for holding off on Osimiri’s story.

I'm not sure Lucasfilm is going to let the RPG invent stuff (and thus establish canon, perhaps) for something like Dathomir - it's not exactly vital, but it is fairly important. So since canon says nothing about the rest of Dathomir, I figured the adventure wouldn't touch on it. That they even mention other clans is cool, IMO.

WEG got to invent stuff, but that was because George Lucas thought at the time he was never going to make more Star Wars stuff.

Well, they might. The Imperial Raider-Class Corvette was created by Lucasfilm specifically for the X-Wing Miniatures Game. It has since shown up in other various FFG works as well as in Star Wars Battlefront 2 (of which, the campaign is canon). One is specifically used by Inferno Squad. Apparently one appears in the Thrawn book as well.

So there's precedence that things can potentially be made canon that start out only in FFG related works if Lucasfilm wants to use said things in the canon.

Well, there's only one True Avatar, and that's the one who is the only one who can master all FOUR elements, so...

Blue people?

I guess, I'm too old to be in the target audience of the Last Airbender manga stuff, so I know next to nothing about it. But I'm curious why it uses the Ancient Greek concept of four elements?!

I'd have expected it to use the Chinese Wu Xing philosophy of five elements, i.e. Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, and Wood. What's up with that?

Nothing about that movie is memorable, except perhaps how unlike the source material it is, and how wrong for the part Reeves is.

Good thing I didn't know anything about the comics, I guess. I rather liked Constantine. I thought Tilda Swinton as Gabriel and Peter Stormare as Satan were great (and I always enjoy seeing Rachel Weisz in a movie...).

Okay, that really sounds like I needn't bother to pick this up...

I mean, is this adventure actually any good? Or which adventure(s) would you recommend to me instead?

I'd like to get at least one typical adventure module published for Force & Destiny (or failing that, a module for one of the previous Star Wars RPGs that is written for a party of Force Users).

Hate to derail this thread any further, but I will fully attest to Peter Stormare as Satan being the absolute highlight of that movie. Might be one of my favorite versions of the devil in any live action movie.

Edit: As for adventure modules, this is actually the first I've purchased. It's a decent enough adventure, just not what I was hoping for. I was looking for a heavily Nightsister-focused game, and instead it felt more like an Edge of the Empire game with a Force-related McGuffin. All of the games I've run have been of my own creation. I'll probably borrow some elements from this book if my party ever visits Dathomir or Toydaria, though.

Well if we are still Avatar off topic, my favourite one is the one on Pandora in Frank Herbert's books. Now that was a truly hostile world unlike the James Cameron movie (and I'm amazed it didn't get mentioned in the credits as it is so obviously the inspiration).

Well, if we can't get away from the planet of Pandora, I'd rather go to the one from Borderlands.  Aaaaand if we're complaining about wait times, I'm still waiting for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th DLC to the Pre-Sequel promised by the Season Pass.

On Dathomir, is their even that much mention of the Zabrak?  Darth Maul & Savage Opress are also from Dathomir.  They both (by witch I mean Zabrak and Night Sisters, not the murder brothers) come from that world and have unique takes on the force.

If we're mentioning Rebels, are there any Bendu anywhere if FaD?  There's another (species? race?) group that interact with the force differently.

The new canon has been weird about non-Jedi/Sith Force sensitives. My observation is that someone somewhere got the idea that you can't use the Force if you aren't a member of one of those groups, so they've slowly been weeding out any examples. It's the only explanation I can think of behind the Chirrut shenanigans.

There are generic minion and a named nemesis Nightbrothers. Other than that....

And I’ll see your wait for the DLC and raise you the 26 year wait for season 3 of Twin Peaks. :P

Bendu from Rebels is a clear counterexample to that, though.

Even if we discount other media, though, there hasn’t been 30 years between two consecutive theatrical Star Wars movies. ;)

Personally? I was waiting 30 years for the sequels... I don't count? the prequels in this wait even though they came out in that time span... nor? do i count the remakes of the original trilogy.

As to other media... some were good and some bad(novels)? but most made this 30 year wait bearable?... however none negated this wait imho.?

Edit

Now if there were some movies set after rotj that I'm not aware of please PLEASE??? direct me to them as I am unaware of them?

There's no official movies that take place between RotJ and TFA.  Like the Clone Wars era, the intervening time is not being detailed beyond a few years after RotJ and a few years before TFA (leaving a long gap still to fill with whatever).  Publications and games that fill in this period include Star Wars Aftermath series by Chuck Wendig, Bloodline by Claudia Grey, any of a handful of other books leading up to TFA that focus on individual characters, the Poe Dameron comic series, the Shattered Empire limited series comic run, Star Wars Battlefront II (releasing in November of this year, which follows events of both Shattered Empire and Aftermath), and some other stuff that I'm not especially aware of because I've been out of touch with Star Wars for most of this year.

That depends on whether or not you count folks like Bendu, or people who are likely unidentified sensitives like Poe Dameron (is likely to be).

I got the book!  More Dathomir than I expected from the comments above, but definitely less than I was hoping for.  Although adding in the Nightbrothers was a nice touch.

I like the idea behind the Cluster, but I'm not entirely sold on it.  I'm going to re-read the book again to see if I can solidify an opinion...

I picked up the book last night on the way home from the airport - have only just had enough time to skim bits (I'm a multitasking hydra today - catching up on email, laundry, decompressing and reading a book in-between all that), but the end of episode 1 concerns me. It seems to be written in a way that assumes the players run away from The End Boss when she shows up. It's always a dangerous game to play, assuming that PCs retreat. Most groups would stand their ground and kill the Bad Guy (or get whupped trying) than run.

(Also Temple of Apshai > Ultima any day of the week)
