Ashigaru Armour

Recommended Posts

Hi, not sure if this is the right place, but I would like to recommend renaming Ashigaru armour.

It seems very odd to me that Ashigaru armour is part of the standard kit of a Samurai.  I understand that the naming of this armour came in later editions of the original L5R RPG when there was a desire (need?) to have a new kind of armour that was less protective than the existing Heavy and Light.  Ashigaru seemed reasonable in that position, and even for being worn by unorthodox scouts.

However, the Light and Heavy armour have been renamed to Lacquered and Plated armour, and most samurai have had their standard-issue armour reduced a bit, leaving the Akodo Bushi school giving out 'Ashigaru' armour to their members.  Which seems a bit off.

If I was to try to pick an appropriate name, perhaps 'Folding' or 'Travelling' armour could be used instead.

Especially for one of the primary war colleges for the Empire. If Lacquered and Plate were formally 'heavy' and 'light', then 'light' might work as a name, too.
