More places at game table...

Recommended Posts

The only thing about this game I'm not keen on so far is the 1-4 player limit. Gaming is an even more social hobby these days and most groups have 5 or 6 people in them so this game is putting 1-2 people on the sidelines. So then it is only played if said 1-2 people can't make game night or won't make table/be purchased at all for those die hard "no, this is my game night and I'm going!" folks. Hope to see something that allows for more than 4 players.

I see this argument pop up for literally EVERY game.  "I have no friends, if it can't be played solo, I'm out." "My game group has exactly 3.5 people, if it doesn't allow for half players I won't buy."  "My group has multiphasic players that may or may not materialize minute by minute throughout the game, if players can't jump in or drop out mid game, we just won't buy it."  "If this game can't accommodate 20 players, be a legacy title, have hidden info, and player elimination that includes blood sacrifices to deities, I just can't commit."

Every game can not exist in such a way to provide optimal game play experience to all player groups.  It's just not possible.  They obviously felt that this game works best with no more than 4 players, otherwise it would have been easy to just allow additional players.  Heck, the game comes with 5 player minis.  When trying 5 or more players, they likely ran into balance or gameplay issues that they weren't comfortable with.

As always, you have some options.  Buy it for solo non-group nights.  Buy it and just game with a smaller group or a different group.  Buy it for the times when someone can't make it.  Buy it because things change man, someone's going to move, or stop coming, or whatever.  Don't buy.

BTW, where do you get your game group statistics?  My last monthly copy must have got lost in the mail.

Also one thing we don't really know until we play the game a bit is what is the "ideal" number of players. Maybe 3+ people will be too slow and people will prefer 1-2? Although honestly I expect max players will be the funnest, with lots of chaos and competing goals.

Maybe someday there will be an expansion for 5-6 players, with new characters and expanded board size and stuff?

HAHAHA, love this response. It's true though, not every game can cater to every single person. However there is hope! As some games do add expansions down the road that can increase the number of players.
