Star Wars Clone Wars: Cyclone Squad IC

Recommended Posts

Calm down sergeant.

Akua turned to Kando and chided slightly.

May we have more information on what kind of attacks occured? Who went missing? Is there any link? We might be able to guess what they are planning from these info.

The female asked.

"Understood, Sir." Gunslinger is somewhat chagrined by his own behavior, and dutifully acknowledges the rebuke.

"Specialist Ordo. You will be accompanying Cyclone Squad to the surface for this mission, then? You'll make a welcome addition to the team." Clapping the Mandalorian on the arm, he continues more softly: "I was just busting your chops. We called you Southpaw, really, if you want a nickname like the rest of us. I'm Gunslinger."

"And Miss Ti, is it? Will you be joining us, as well, or coordinating from the ship? Can you fill us in on anything we might expect to run into down there, or are we going in blind?"

Slugger walked with the group as he looked about the rooms aboard the ship the squad was on. He let the commander and gunslinger do the talking, he was good with blasters not talking.

"Yousa must calm down, thisa not battle, mandalorian. There are missing people on that moon. Many of them were soldiers like yousa, whatever caused them to disappear could do the same to your team" Oersal warns with a snap in her voice. This whole event seems to have notably agitated her.

At Akua's question, Scale sighs a little as he begins to tap on the console of the projector. "From what the naboo government has told us, roughly ten weeks after the battle of geonosis, all communication was lost with the gungan settlement on the moon. A squad of jedi went to investigate, and found every settler had been killed. Some kind of chemical weapon developed by the separatists. It was designed to kill gungans, but was still highly toxic to the jedi. The jedi and their clones came across a force of separatists, lead by these two".

As he finishes the two moons are replaced by two frozen images from some kind of recording. The first was of a huge lumbering figure, completely encased in a strange looking armour that was not familiar to the squad. Whatever was wearing it was far to big to be human. The image was paused on it wielding a blaster, firing at something off screen. The second was of a lithe bald woman, wielding two lightsabers. They were blood red in colour.

"The first, we think is the same species as the separatist general General Kenobi battled on Muunilist. It can't be the same person, the first was completely destroyed by the general. The second, we're still not sure, but they have a jedi's weapon. All of the clones were killed except for Alpha-17, and one of the jedi were killed by that woman, Master Glaive. His Padawan lost her arm during the battle".

"Fortunately, the jedi were able to destroy the remaining canisters of gas so the separatists could not attack naboo, but the damage to the moon is apparent". The droid would add on behalf of the ithorian master. "Master Chodo's efforts to return the moon to its former habitat had been progressing well. The forward base had been set up on the surface, and terraforming equipment had been transported to the surface. Gungan and ithorian scientists had been working at the base, with clone scouts mapping the surrounding area. Communications were difficult due to the atmospheric disturbances, so shuttles had to relay messages. However, it was noted that things were going wrong. Equipment was breaking, and people were getting injured or disappearing all together. The last shuttle to go to the planet, never returned".

At Gunslingers question, the gungan shakes her head. "Mesa must report to the boss, mesa not able to go with you. Even still, mesa would loke to go, find out what happened to everyone down there. Before the disappearances, there was life starting again. Animals were found in do swamps near da base. Many peaceful, but some bombad ones".

"When you are ready, we will provide you with the equipment needed to survive the moons surface, and provide a shuttle to take you down" Scale would finish.

Akua’s eyes widen.

A sith...?

She gasped.

I... I thought there were none remaining...

She said softly. She then proceeded to watch the footage again, watching the two “generals” closely.

According to Master Kenobi, the thing in armour... can regenerate?

Spearhead scoffs at the mention of Sith. "Do we expect to go up against whatever it is these Jedi fought, or something new entirely?"

"A dark jedi, Hmm well nothing Martha and I can't handle if they come back." Slugger says looking at the images of the enemy  generals. "So we are doing a search and rescue  for the Gungans still stuck in the trap that these two set?"

"Alright, Cyclones, Let's get to it."

Gunslinger turns to the Gungan. "We'll find your people." Situation is grim, but perhaps this can be a rescue, and not a recovery..? "We'll need appropriate filters for our helms, and the latest maps provided by the scouts, before communications ceased."

And a flamethrower.. he thinks, one of the bad holoflics he'd watched with Akua on the long hyperspace flight coming to mind. Definitely a flamethrower.

"Sir. Do we have access to any special weapons for this mission?"

"My master does not know if this being is sith or not, but they killed many of the gungan settlers" the droid would state, pointing to the image of he lightsaber wielder.

At the mention of the incident Kenobi faced, Scale would nod. "Perhaps. I heard it could reattach limbs certainly, but from the report, that creature exploded. The chance of it being the same are, unlikely. Besides, according to the  report, these two were driven off of th moons surface by the jedi. Hopefully they have not returned. If you do find them though, you are to withdraw immediately. We don't want any more missing soldiers, especially a jedi. Unfortunately the only name included in the report of the battle was master Glaive. The Chancellor declared this incident to be highly classified. Hopefully we will be able to find more information soon, but we are still waiting".

At Sluggers question, the gungan representative hangs her head, "All of the settlers were killed by the gas. Now the new settlers going missing, history no change, it seems".

Scale looks up at Gunslinger and nods as he turns back to the projector. I will have the mapping put onto a datapad for you. Unfortunately the latest set of data was not collected, but you may be able to recover it from the command centre of the base. We will also be providing you all with oxygen units, good for twelve hours of use. There is a refill pump at the base, if it is still working you should be able to refill the packs there. The base building are also airtight". At the question of weaponry, he turns back to give the sergeant a puzzled look. "Special weapons? What do you have in mind?"

Oxygen units.. okay, flamethrowers might not be a great idea...

"Actually, Sir, I think we're good to go. Unless there is anything on offer? I just want us to be prepared for whatever we might run into down there."

When gear has been sorted, Gunslinger takes an oxygen unit, and accepts the proffered datapad once the maps have been uploaded. "Alright, Cyclones. Let's go!"

Scale would think for a moment before shaking his head. "The ship wasn't fitted for battle, the only equipment we had was taken by the security team to the planets surface. You may be able to find additional equipment there".

As the briefing was brought to an end, the squad was escorted back to the hanger where the shuttle awaited them. When they arrived a team of 'soft shell' engineers set about fitting the clones and mandalorian with their equipment. They were each given a large white pack that was strapped to their back, the republic logo emblazoned on it.  From there two tubes were strapped over the wearer shoulders, a breather piece bolted into the helmet. "Alright, that should do it" on of the engineer states, tapping Slugger on the helmet as he finishes up.

As one of them approaches Akua with the pack, he would pause. "Erm, commander, this isn't going to be enough. The gases on the moon can be absorbed through the skin". The engineer would move to a locker and remove a dull brown enviro suit. It was fitted to stretch over the body with a large glass dome for a helmet (somewhat unnecessary for a miraluka). "There we go, that should do it. It may be a little restrictive on movement, but it's the best we have. On the plus side the suit gives you an extra eight hours of oxygen on top of the packs air".

Scale and the others follow the squad into the hanger once they have finished the final preparations. "When you are ready, the pilot will take you to the moons surface. He'll return in ten hours, so make your time count" Scale states as he walks towards the shuttle. "Good luck, and may the force be with you".

The shuttle ride was short, not much more than ten minutes. The quality of the ride however was terrible. The shuttle rattles, creaks and shakes violently as they begin to pass into the moons atmosphere.

"The gases play havoc with the turbulence, that and the storms" the pilot shout back to the party over the noise. "Hang on, we'll be through it in  a minute!" Finally the shuttle settles, and a few moments later there is the tell-tale thud of the landing. "Alright, here we go". The loading ramp at the front of the shuttle folds down, ready to release the passengers. The sight before them was an alien and unsettling one. As the ramp opens, a wave of sickly yellow-green mist wafts into the entrance, almost obscuring the outside entirely. "You'll get used to it" the pilot says over the com. "Let it settle, and don't use lights, they just reflect off the mist. The base is to the east. Good luck out there".

After disembarking the roar of engines and swirling must shows the shuttle taking off, back up to the herd ship. As the mist settles, the moons surface gets a little clearer. The mist blocks almost everything from sight to the knees down. The gasses swirl heavily in the air, obscuring most things at any real distance. Here and there, great jagged rocks jut out of the ground like cruel fingers. No trees or plants can be seen. No birds or animals, no sign of the apparent progress that the ithorian had spoken of. To their right was a huge metal wall, the side of the republic base. There was no one on the wall, no noises from the base either. The entrance was close, around the corner  from where they had landed. The gateway to the base was big enough to fit an AT-TE through, but the gate was wide open.

This... stinks.

Akua grumbled as she trodded forward carefully, still not used to the suit. “Seeing” the gate open, she then sniffed.

Hmmmm I smell something fishy... maybe it’s the suit though.

"Probably the smell of the last person in that suit Blindfold."  Slugger says as he disembarks from the shuttle and looks about at their surroundings doing an initial scan of the area with Martha ready pointed forward into the unknown. "If you could smell the Gas, you probably be dead from what the Gungans describe. Let's find those Refugees and get out of here, Gunslinger where do we Head first?" He says still looking forward waiting for an order.

Spearhead gets off as well. "I don't like the look of it. Or the sound of it. We're almost certain to fall into some sort of trap on this mission."

Gunslinger consults the datapad, getting their bearings with the uploaded maps.

"Respectfully, Commander.. Sounds like we have a volunteer." The sergeant indicates the direction of the base, through the fog of noxious gases.

"Kandosii, why don't you take point. We'll follow in a flanking "V" formation. The Commander and I will take the right, Slugger and Spearhead the left. See or hear anything, get down. Move out."

(What would the check be to form a "Skirmish" squad formation, to add a Boost to Vigilance checks

Slowly making their way into the walled compound, the squad only hears the hiss of the mists around them and the crunch of dirt underfoot. The walls are thick, thick enough to withstand a tank blast for a while. However as they pass through the gate, a fain fizzing can be heard to the side. Looking down, it appears that the gate controls have been smashed. Now they spit out weak blue sparks every now and then, and the glass of the panel is badly cracked. It will take some work to get this going again.

The base itself is still eerily silent as they make their way inside. The compound seems to be comprised of four large buildings. They are all made of a lightweight metal popular with these sort of portable shelters. To the left is a long grey structure with a single door set into the side. There is a row of windows running along both long sides of the building, but the general grime and mist make it tricky to see into. The building to the right is squatter, more square than the first. There are no windows, and the door is a heavy duty metal, reinforced at weak points. However upon inspection, despite the additional security the door is actually unlocked. The yard itself in the centre of the base looks abandoned, piled high with all manner of ecological and survey equipment. A thin film of greenish-yellow sediment rests on the surface of everything, perhaps something in the atmosphere. At the far end of the compound is what looks to be the command centre. A large building with a glassed roof, and doubled doors set into the front. It is connected via a metal tube to the building beside it. This is very similar in appearance, but with a large radar dish on the top. The dish looks undamaged, but is unmoving. A set of double doors are built into the front of this building as well.

Slugger still scanning for enemies as they march even though the were told that all droids had been cleared earlier speaks as they stop moving "Blindfold, Gunsliger what do you two want to search first?" He says still looking forward Martha Spinning ready to fire at anything unfriendly should the Gungan reports of an All clear be wrong. "We got four different buildings, splitting up could cover more ground but could put us at risk if there is anything in here that wants Clones and Jedi dead."

Seeing the Mandalorian heading to high ground, he hopes he can trust him to cover them as they explore the base.

"Alright, Cyclones. We've got four buildings. We'll clear 'em as we go, starting with that first one." Indicating the long, low building with the single visible entrance. "I'll get the door. You two with the big guns be ready to use them, but ONLY if targets can be positively identified as hostile. Remember- we're still hoping we might find survivors."

Turning to Akua: "Commander. Watch our backs. Your.. sensory perceptions are probably considerably more effective than ours, in this sickly mist. Love the new look, by the way."

Pistols in hand, Gunslinger cautiously approaches the building, and tries to peer in through a window before going for the door.

Akua blushed abit before she smiled and nodded.

Thank you sergeant... I appreciate the compliment...

she said softly before she looked around, reaching out with her senses.

There's a faint chirp of electronics as the door slides open, and gives the squad entry to the building. Their boots clank a little against the corrugated metal flooring, and a light flickers above them as it sputters to life. The heavy set building seems to be some kind of storage facility. The walls are lined with a number of crates stamped with the republic logo, all neatly strapped away for storage. A few have been opened, revealing their contents being some kind of high level tech. Most likely it was used by the ithorians for their work, but without further investigation it was difficult to tell what it does. Something that would speak to the clones a little more was the caged section of the building. At the far end, a small portion of the building had been fenced of with wiring and a cage door. Beyond it was a small arsenal of republic equipment. A couple of crates of ammunition, a rack of rifles with a second rack of carbines besides it. A few other crates can be seen as well, though they are sealed up. One thing of note is the three heavy repeating blasters that were neatly stowed in a corner. This was some pretty heavy duty equipment for a planetary restoration project.
