Star Wars Clone Wars: Cyclone Squad IC

Recommended Posts

Sergeant Thire steps forward as the clones talk, clearing his throat as he does. 'As nice as this is, we have a yard of civilian casualties and what seems to be an army of droids lose in the lower levels, maybe higher up as well. He would gesture to Spanner and the hologram. 'This is much more serious than we thought, I think we need to radio into command for further instructions'.

"Cyclones. If our mission is to hunt these droids, then distraction or not, we need to move. Spanner. Call your intelligence in to Command. Make sure to use a secure link, and make sure it reaches the Jedi temple."

"Clankers are down here killing innocent civilians. Let's stop them. Hunting high and low, brothers, none will escape this Cyclone!"

"Commander?"

Spanner activates his comm and begins to relay the information provided.  "Command, this is CT-2112 with Cyclone squad.  Be advised we have found a communique from Wat Tambor, in one of the droids that attacked.  The instructions indicate they are to cause as much damage as possible, while the primary target is being attacked elsewhere, and they were to serve as a distraction.  The message is garbled, but they mentioned a contingent of battle droids as well, and that the Jedi were to be wiped out, I'm assuming they are the primary target but it's not clear.  Also, the message mentions someone named Trenox, but as of yet, nobody here seems to know who that is.  Over."  He releases the comms switch and begins to repack his tech gear to move out.

After hearing from Thire, Boom gets right back to business. "I think I know where the droids will be heading. The market sector is not too far from here and will easily be the most densely populated area down here." Boom pauses for a moment to think. "I know a short cut we can take that will get us there in 10 to 15 minutes of we go now."

When he sees the partial recording of the Separatist commander, Anler quickly gets out his comlink again and contacts Major Zombie. "Major, we have a confirmation that this is the workings of the Separatists. Reliable intelligence suggests there are assassin droids present, location, numbers and objective unknown. I suggest we deploy only a part of the battalion on the ground at this time. We need to form a parameter as much as we can given the situation and react as fast as possible when we have anything more to go on," he says.

When a clone who apparently is called Boom mentions the market sector, Anler closes his eyes for a moment, before continuing his report to the Major. "If they are going for panic and civilian casualties it is likely that the market area is their target. I will take the Cyclones and whatever local forces I can muster and head there immediately. I suggest you send a few gunships to the area as soon as you can. Will keep you appraised."

Anler stops for a moment, clipping the comlink to his belt. Looking at this 'Boom' clone, he stares at him for a moment. "Well, what are we waiting for? Lead the way to the market sector," he says. "Cyclones, keep an eye out for anything unusual. Any sign of fighting or droids behaving in an unusual manner. But remember our mandate, we are here to protect the populace, not put them in danger by starting firefights when there are civilians present."

Doc didn't want to leave anyone behind, but the squad needed to go and go quick.

"This is CT-4216, requesting medvac at this position," he would say before talking to the wounded soldier. "The armor took most of the blow, you'll be fine. Just...sorry. I need to go."

His equipment bumped all around as he caught up to the squad, but leaving a brother behind seemed to occupy his mind than the task at hand.

There is a faint crackle over the com as Spanner makes his call. Their depth in the planet must be effecting the com transmission a bit. After a moment or two however he gets his response. 'Copy that trooper, proceed with extreme caution. If this is a separatist attack we could be looking at heavy casualties. Two of the other squads dispatched to the lower level have reported heavy civilian casualties and are trying to evacuate as many as they can on the troop transports. Not sure who this Trenox is meant to be, but if he's with the separatists assume him to be dangerous. The priority is still evacuating the civilians, capturing enemies is only secondary so don't worry about bringing him back alive just yet. Command out'.

As the communication had been sent sergeant Thire would have been listening to his own com unit. 'My squad has orders to hold back and check the surrounding areas for survivors to evacuate. Boom! You take the others to the market sector'. He would turn to address Akua after this. 'you should probably go as well commander, you'll be more use there than here'.

As Aner contacts Zombie he would receive a very prompt response. 'Copy that sir, I'll begin sending transports now, Zo-, Commander Zombie out'.

The newly formed unit would dash through the quiet streets of the under-city. As they left the blood red emergency lights and burning wreckage behind, the streets would become eerily quiet and dimly lit once again. At least for a time. As they neared the market sector, they began to see more and more people, first one or two, and then in small gatherings. As they went the more observant of the squad would pick up bits and pieces of conversation.

'Did you hear that commotion at the stalls?'

'Come off it, you did not hear gunshots'.

'Must be another turf war'.

Of course, this squad new better then that now. As they reached the edge of the sector, they would reach the thronging crowd that was more common on Corouscant, and it was complete turmoil. There was shouting and screaming as the crowd scattered in every direction. While some fled, others didn't know what was happening and were either going the other way or simply stood there. The sector was well lit, but it was difficult to see anything in front of them through the sheer mass of people.

As they reached the edge of the crowd however, there was the definite sound of blaster fire up ahead. They were going to have to force their way through the crowd to reach it, but their orders meant that they couldn't just leave these people here. A stray shot from a clone could be catastrophic in a place like this.

Gunslinger presses forward, with purpose. So intent is he upon reaching the crowd, and making his way through it, that he fails to take in any appreciable intelligence as he heads deeper into the chaos of the undercity. He and Slugger make an imposing pair, and despite the mayhem, the frantic mob parts for the Cyclones as they forge toward whatever pandemonium lies ahead.

Passing through the throngs of frightened citizens, he assists their Commander with the evacuation.. when they are too slow getting out of his way. "That way to safety, ma'am. We have the situation under control, but evacuation is mandatory. No pushing, please, sir." He keeps this dialogue up, automatically, as he leads the squad swiftly toward the disturbance.

(I'm narrating the 2 Advantage from my failed Perception as a Boost to

@Kymrel 's evacuation check. Basically, Gunslinger is too singlemindedly focused on getting through the crowd, to notice anything else).

"We have to clear these people out of here, but also avoid panic," Anler tells the clones as he gets to the market  sector. Spying a stack of crates, the Padawan leaps on top of one of the crates to get some elevation. "People, you need to evacuate the area now. This is official Jedi business. Please vacate in an orderly fashion," he shouts,  trying his best to project authority and calm. He sees that Gunslinger is trying to direct the traffic and quickly adds: "The clone security guards will assist you with evacuation. Follow their instructions." Although calling the clone troopers security guards is technically not entirely true, Anler figures that it might cause panic to call them troops or soldiers. And they are guarding the locals and trying to help the population remain secure, so it is true. From a certain point of view.

The shouts and cries from the crowd are somehow pierced by the commanding presence of Anler and Gunslinger. They quickly begin to run past the squad as they try to get to safety from whatever it is that is happening in the market centre. Hopefully Thire will be able to organise their evacuation from the level. For now, the Cyclones have their own problems to deal with.

As the crowd rushes by, Anler would see something out of the corner of his eye. A small child, not much older than five years old. She must have gotten separated from her parents somewhere in the crowd, and was stood there with a lost look of confusion on her face. Tears streak her face as she only just avoids being trampled by the fleeing adults not looking down at their feet.

As the crowd begins to depart, it becomes clear was was causing the commotion. Droids, droids had taken over this area of the market sector. These weren't like the droid that they had encountered further back in the sector. These were separatist battle droids, plain and simple. Stalls had been overturned and smashed, and a few bodies of civilians littered the ground around their feet. They looked like B2 battle droids, but something was different, something was off. Instead of the usual blue colour, they were polished chrome with a single red eye set into the top of their frame. Instead of the clenched fists that the B2 usually has, they had a set of twin barrelled blasters on the end of each arm.

There were five of the droids in total, and they turn in unison to face the clones. 'Threats to mission detected' would would state in a low monotone rumble. 'Threat assessed, multiple jedi identified'.

'Eliminate'.

In the middle of the chaos, Anler notices a little girl who seems to have become separated from her parents. Afraid she might get trampled under the people flocking to the exits of the market place, he decides to trust the clones to deal with the droids and help the little girl. He reaches out with the Force, stretching his left hand towards the girl but holding the lit lightsaber at guard in case the droids target him.

Concentrating on lifting her isn't easy, and when he notices that a massive Herglic fleeing the droids knocks over a shop stall which is about to fall on the girl. Panicking, Anler pushes himself further than he normally would and manages to grab the child with the Force, pulling her to him and depositing her behind the boxes he's standing on. "Stay here, you'll be safe behind the boxes. I'll come back for you soon," he says to the child.

OOC: Anler uses the Move power to lift the girl, which should require only 1 pip since I assume she's small enough to count as silhouette 0.

This is unfortunate, but I'll eat the strain and conflict and flip the DP to use that black pip.

Seeing Commander Anler pick up the girl he gets straight to business. He finds a position that will help his aim and switches his rounds. Once his ion grenade pack is loaded he takes a shot at the group of droids.

"****!" He shouts as his grenade lands just shy of his target. He looks behind him at one of his clone brothers and shouts. "You've got this brother! We can't all miss!"

Doc was helping the rest of the civilians evacuate as soon as the droids showed up. One civilian tripped on his feet running away as one of the droids approached him. And as the droid approached, twin blaster ready to add another to the body count, a shot rang off, hitting it directly in the eye. The droid dropped its arm before falling onto the ground.

The civilian managed to get up and run past Doc, whose blaster rifle smoked from the shot. The rest of the droids looked at their fallen compatriot before turning their attention to the clone trooper who had fired the shot.

"Yeah, let's go, clankers," he muttered.

As Cyclone squad begans firing at the unusual B2 droids, Mynock advances forward behind a small pile of crates. Unfortunately, along the way a large crowd of civilians trying to evacuate push passed Mynock, slightly knocking him off balance from his objective. Yet, still determined, the clone raises his DC-15 towards the closest droid and pulls the trigger several times. Firing multiple blaster bolts towards the B2's, one Clanker seemingly collapses on the asphalt as the other droids trample over it. "Oh, I'll eliminate!" he mentally retorts in his head, heavily focused on the situation.

Spanner moves forward, sighting down his pistol as he slowly advances.   He moves nice and close, close enough to see the electrical impulses in their optic receptors, and takes aim.  As the other droids take fire from his squad, he aims for one, and sends a bolt through it's head.  The droid instantly begins to spark and shudder, it's servos going haywire, and causing it to pull the trigger on it's blaster.  The bolt, sent out as the droid clanks to the ground, hits the side of one of it's compatriots, causing the droid to take a small bit of damage as it finds itself quickly losing allies.

The new droids are torn apart by the squads well practised gunfire. In a minute or so they are lying in a tangled heap of twisted metal and sparks. Whatever they were, they aren't killing anyone else now.

Almost everyone has fled the scene, with only a couple of civilians here or there who took cover rather than running. The little girl that Anler had saved was still in her hiding spot, watching the group with wide eyes as she clutches at what looks like a cross between a rag and a stuffed toy.

After a moment the market area grows quiet, and there is no other sign of droids, at least for the moment. The silence is broken with a beep as Anlers comm units springs to life. 'Padawan, any progress with your mission?' It was Master Kenobi's voice, he must be working with the other commanders coordinating the effort to retake the lower levels.

Surveying the situation, Anler gets his comlink out of his belt. "We have made some progress, Master Kenobi. We have determined that this is indeed an attack instigated by the Separatists. Apparently several local droids have been modified to attack randomly, and we have just encountered a squad of battle droids," he says. "We will push on and try to ascertain the numbers of the enemy."

He puts down his comlink as he waits for a response, and looks at the little girl. "Don't be afraid, little one. Do you know where you mommy is?" He lifts the child onto a crate to allow her to see better, hoping she will either spot her parents or that her parents will spot her.

"Cyclones!" he calls to the clones. "Move on and try to see if there are more clankers here. Be careful. I'll be right behind you, just need to make sure this little one is alright."

There would be a short pause on the com unit before Master Kenobi responds. 'We seem to be getting similar reports from other squads. Be careful padawans, these new droids could be dangerous, and there is likely to be more of these droids out there. The separatists don't work in small measures. I'm tasking the most of the squads with evacuating the civilians, but we need men to provide cover and deal with the droids. When you've cleared your area head to these coordinates. Make sure there is no stragglers or droids that have gotten past the clones'. With that the communication would end abruptly. The coordinates would a couple of levels up from where the squad was, the droids must be spreading faster than command had anticipated. It may be time to bring more of Anler's troops in to help with the evacuation and dealing with these strange looking new droids.

As Anler approaches the little girl she would stare up at him speechlessly with wide eyes. As she is about to speak there would be a cry of distress from near by as a woman runs towards the girl.

'Torta! There you are!' She would fall to her knees to scoop the girl into her arms while tears stream down her face. She would turn to face Anler as she tries to calm herself. 'Thank you, thank you' she would repeat over and over. As she does, the girl would reach out, pushing the raggedy toy into the padawans arms.

With that the woman would rapidly retreat int he same direction as the other civilians. This left the squad in the now deserted market with only the bodies of those locals unable to escape in time, and the droids.

Recalling the Separatist Terror strategies he had studied, Gunslinger decides to broach an unsavory possibility. "Chuck that toy, sir. Chuck it."

The sergeant's eyes follow the woman as she disappears into the crowd, hoping his suspicions are unfounded. Surely I'm just paranoid? Trained to be, I guess.. Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.
