Star Wars Clone Wars: Cyclone Squad IC

Slugger spent most of his time at the gun range, working on his precision more so than his accuracy. If he could keep his Cannons fire tight he would hit more targets. One day during the week he notices Gunsligner using a Scoped DC-15 for rifle practice. "How do you like the rifle Gunslinger?" Slugger would say as he slapped his brother on the back. "Has a bit more stopping power than your pistols, it's a powerful weapon but can't deal with as many Clankers as Martha can." Slugger gestured to the cannon he has resting on his shoulder.

Anler gives Master Shaak Ti a wry smile as he meets her outside the dome. “Mistress, it is curious that it finally stopped raining when it was time for us to ship out,” he says with a grin. “Is it the Force telling us we have a bright future or is it just our luck to leave when the sun finally graces us with its presence?”

He listens in silence as the Togruta gives him her best wishes for the next stage in his life as a Jedi Padawan, leading clones into battle. “I will try to honor Master Wuum’s teachings as well as what you have taught me,” he tells Master Shaak Ti. “If we must fight, we need to do so efficiently so that the loss of life can be kept to a minimum. But from what I hear, the war isn’t going as well as the Council would have hoped.”

The Jedi Padawan stands beside the Togruta as the clones exit the dome and stands stiffly beside her as she addresses the clones. As the clones march on to the cruiser he feels a chill running down his spine. Suddenly all this feels very real. They are going to war, and no matter what happens, not all of them will be coming back. After the last clone has entered the ship, he says his farewell to Shaak Ti before boarding the ship.

Once on board he can feel the ship’s engines shaking the ship as it takes off from Kamino, heading through the partial cloud cover and out of the planet’s gravity well, getting ready to jump. Anler makes his way to the bridge of the ship, introducing himself to the command staff, discussing protocols for the journey ahead.

Once the ship is in hyperspace, Anler starts exploring the large vessel, chatting to the clone soldiers he walks past, before finding the members of Cyclone Squad. He spends a while with them, discussing the war they are about to join, the equipment and armor they are wearing and the endless possibilities of missions and postings, starting with the current mission on Alderaan.

The Jedi Padawan spends the next two weeks studying new reports about the war effort, reports of victories and losses, blockades and daring raids. But mostly he studies everything he can think of to prepare for the mission on Alderaan. Once his mind has taken all it can process for the day, he looks for clones to train with, before heading to his spartan quarters for meditation and sleep. The two weeks are over way to fast, and at the end of the journey, Anler feels as badly prepared for the mission as he did the day he stepped onto the ship.

Over the next two weeks, Mynock spent most his time familiarizing himself with the new military protocols, the planetary surface of Alderaan, and regularly mingle with the battalion. The clone made quite a few friends at gradation and sought to maintain those friendships. On the occasion Spanner needed assistance with vehicle maintenance, Mynock was always willing to aid support. Mynock was looking forward to the arrival of his first unexplored new planet.

As CT-8675 approaches his partner for the day, the clone would tut, shaking his head. 'Not yet kid, we've got to wait for some official high command is sending to tag along'. The other clone was known as Sven. Sven had close cropped hair that revealed a number of faint scars on his cheek and neck. He'd earned these from a protest gone wrong. He had tried to calm the crowd, and had made the rookie mistake of removing his bucket. A bottle to the face will definitely harden a soldier. He was sat on the steps of the garrison in the open air of Corouscant. From here they could watch the vast cityscape and the speeder rush by.

The temple was not too far from this garrison, and inside Master Windu would stand up to move towards the rooms door. 'You will leave now padawan, a speeder it waiting outside to transport you to the garrison'. He would pause before adding another level of seriousness to his voice. 'Do not forget to remain calm padawan. This is an exercise in patience and restraint'.

With that, the faithful padawan would be dismissed by her master. It had been an odd experience being trained by Mace Windu. As a grand master he had little time for training Akua, and even when he did he remained ever stoic and reserved. He took the jedi's rule on attachment most seriously it would seem.  Despite that he had been a good master, and had taught her well up to this date.

"There's something peaceful about watching the speeders along the skyline.." 8675 said to Sven. "Almost enough to make you forget about the war."

8675 loosens up a bit taking in the Coruscant sky. After relaxing, 8675 puts his helmet back on and focuses on the current mission.

"Know anything about this official?" 8675 asks Sven.

Sven would shrug as he scratches at his neck for a moment. 'Almost, but not quite. I heard Dantooine is a nice posting. Very peaceful, nothing but farmers and the occasional pirate band'.

To the question the clone would shrug slightly in response. 'You know command doesn't tell us anything we need to know' he'd say with a chuckle. 'From what I know, it sounds like it's some C.O., probably one of them admin types looking to score some points with the others'. Sven was one of the few who showed open distaste for a lot of the non-clone officers. It was probably why he would never progress beyond private, and at the same time impressive that he had kept his placement here.

After a couple of minutes an open topped speeder would approach the garrison building containing Akua. As the speeder slows she would see the pair of clone troopers waiting on the steps of the garrison building. This must be the patrol she was joining this day. They were both dressed in the standard phase one armour, but with the red trim of the Corouscant Guard. One carried a riot shield and stun baton, the other a grenade launcher, presumably non-lethal.

CT-2112 moved with the rest of the squad, his mechanics gear taking up the bulk of his personal equipment.  He had his blaster pistol of course, but he wasn't fond of using it, especially when there were bigger toys to play with.   He thought back wistfully to his day spent fixing up the vehicles and sighed.

8675 laughs at how true Sven's statement was.

Seeing the speeder zoom on up, 8675 prepares himself as he expects this to be the official.

8675 gives Akua a nod. "The pleasure is all mine. They call me CT-8675 and this is my partner Sven. May I address you as Akua, or is there anything else you prefer?"

You may call me Akua. It's nice to meet you Sven and... uh... can you repeat that?

Akua asked with a small laugh as she scratched the back of her head.

We should find a name for you asap.

She smiled

The two clones and jedi would move back into the garrison, and before too long would come across the commander striding down the corridor. He would almost sent Akua flying with his stride, but would pull back a few steps before any harm is done. 'Oh, sorry commander' he would say as he straightens up to attention. 'I am Commander Fox, I was told yo expect your arrival'. He was dressed int he same armour as the others, though his helmet sported the visor made popular with ranking officers, as well as a black kamas. He would remove a datapad from his belt to consult for a moment. 'That was it' he would mutter to himself before looking back up. 'You were to assigned to 75 and Svens patrol for the next couple of weeks, on request of General Windu'. He'd glance between the three before continuing. 'Not sure why a jedi is needed for a standard patrol duty, but I'm sure the general has his reasons. You two!' he'd bark, jabbing a finger at the two clones. 'Don't let anything happen to the commander. Show her the ropes and how the Corouscant Guard do things'.

With that, the three of them were free to go. The patrols over the next couple of week were most upper and middle levels of Corouscant. Those who got to patrol the lower levels were not envied in the slightest by most. The most action these three saw was a protest that dispersed peacefully in the end. Master Windu had been right, this would indeed be a test in patience. There was little to do during the walks, and the repetitiveness could often become tedious at best. As the second week came to an end, the three would be near the Jedi Temple when all of their coms begin to blink with an incoming message. 'Attention all units, return to the garrison immediately and report to the briefing room. We have reports of a large disturbance in the lower levels of the sector'. Looks like there was going to be some action after all.

Not too far across the galaxy from this, Anler's Star Destroyer (which turned out to be named 'The Hammer') was approaching Alderaan, and would be arriving in less than hour. However as this is happening, a very out of breath trooper would come running up to the commander to relay a message. 'Sir, Major Zombie has requested your presence on the bridge. He says it is urgent'. As the soldier finishes speaking an announcement would blare over the loudspeaker. 'Attention all units. Move to yellow alert, this is not a drill'. Yellow alert was usually used if an attack was suspected, or if the force was to prepare to disembark into a conflict or something similar. Something was going on, though what it was the troopers could not say. They did not stop to ask however. Without waiting they all make a dash to grab their gear and move to their stations, ready for whatever it is that is about to happen'.

Oddly, being intuitively versed in protocol as the yellow alert sounds, Mynock acts almost without thinking for disembark preparation. The clone grabbed his gear and moved to his squads designated location. "Clankers? Those Seppies are in a real treat if they're attempting the offensive on Alderaan" he thought, being the first to arrive.

Doc was at the range, taking some of this time to practice his aim. When the alarm sounded, he cleared out of the range and grabbed his weapon, armor, and equipment. He took a deep breath when he held his helmet and stared at it.

The squad could be wounded at this point. I just hope my shots protect them.

Putting the helmet on, Doc rushed towards the designated location Cyclone was assigned to and saw Mynock there.

"So, might be the real deal, eh, Mynock?" he said, waving a hand.

As the trooper speaks, Anler immediately starts walking with the man towards the bridge. As he finishes, and the klaxon blares, the Padawan breaks into a run. As the doors to the bridge slide open he quickly spots the Major. "What's going on, Major?" he says, slightly short of breath.

"..This is not a drill.."

The addendum to the announcement is surreal, after so many months of training. This is it!!

"You heard'm, Cyclones! Looks like we're going in hot! Suit-up! I want to see all your heinies shiny, in those new body buckets. General Quarters!"

The Sergeant makes a head count, as the squad falls in. "Spanner, dig that hearing pro out of your ears, and crawl out from underneath whatever project you're working on! Yellow Alert!"

CT-2112 turns at the Sergeant's comment, he grumbles and turns off his welder, lifting up his protective goggles.  He cuts the power to the device with an audible pop, as the heat shuts down, and stows his gear.   Within a few moments he puts on his full suit and kit, and moves out to muster at the gathering point.

The clone troopers and pilots on the Star Destroyer would quickly make their way to the main hanger, while the ships crew would move to their guard posts and gunnery stations and so forth. There was a buzz among the men. For once no one knew what was going on. Nobody knew what the alarm was about, or what was going to happen.

'All attack units, head to your carriers! Prepare for an emergency takeoff! We are running blind here' the hanger commander would shout, over and over as he moves between the squads. This would include Cyclone Squad. During the journey to Alderaan Spanner and the other engineers had given  the LAAT/i squad a tune up, making it flight worthy.  It would be this that would transport the squad into battle, or whatever situation it was that they would be entering.

On the bridge, Anler and the trooper would emerge to see Zombie and a group of the captains and lieutenants who ran the battalion. They had circled around a large holo-table that was projecting two images onto its surface. These two images were both people, the first a Corouscant Guard commander, the second was a young adult dressed in the robes of a jedi. He had a neatly trimmed beard and fair brown hair that reached his shoulders.

'Ah An-, Commander' Zombie would say as he looks up at the pair that walk through the door. 'This is General Kenobi and Commander Fox. They're contacting us from Corouscant'.

'Thank you major' the jedi would say from the table. 'Padawan, there have been signs of a serious disturbance in the lower levels of Corouscant. We have been receiving reports of violence and droids malfunctioning'.

'It may be the Separatists, but at this stage we cannot be sure' the clone commander would add. 'I am sending the local garrison to investigate, but with the protests on the planet we are stretched thin'.

'You and your battalion are the closest unit in the sector' Ob-Wan would add. 'We need you and your men to head to Corouscant, and assist the Corouscant Guard with investigating the situation and evacuating the civilians to a safer location'.

On Corouscant a little before the broadcast, Akua and the rest of the garrison were gathered in the briefing room. It was a large square room with a holoprojector behind where the speaker would stand. There was also a few rows of chairs near the front, but most troopers would have to stand up at the back. Todays briefing was being carried out by Commander Fox.

'Alright, we've got a bunch of reports from civilans that something is going on in the lower levels of the planet. From the reports it seems that there have been a number of attacks against civilians, as well as some people saying that they have seen droids going crazy and attacking people. 'It may be a sepi plot, but we have to be sure'.

As he talks a basic map of the lower levels would be projected behind him. On it a number of landing points were marked out. You will be transported by carrier into the lower levels to investigate. Live ammunition is being authorized, but only to be used as a last resort, and under no circumstances in close proximity to civilians. We don't know if this is an attack yet and the last thing we need is to cause a mass panic. We have a jedi with us today, so commander Seredine will be our commander on the ground, she will be in charge. Your primary objectives is to identify the source of the attacks and neutralize it. Secondary objectives are to evacuate any civilians that you can on the LAAT/i's. And remember, this is Corouscant, the seat of the Republic. You are the best that the Grand Army has to offer! You have the training and the skills to deal with any problem you come across! For the Repblic!'
