Unlimited Power -- Sourcebook for Mystics

Probably because Erso was using purely scientific methods, but perhaps with a little force alchemy...... :D

That said I don't expect it, but since we are rumor mongering anyway, may as well talk about all the crazy fun stuff :)

Considering that the main unique property of kyber crystals is to tap into the force. Yeah, there does not seem to be a real reason why technology should not achieve this. Maybe instead of the living force some artificial crystals might tap into the cosmic force.

Speaking of that, something did awaken and shaken the cosmic force shortly before the events of the force awakens. This event seems to be the reason for a new wave of force sensitives after a period of being  mostly dormant. The first order might have done experimentation on artificial kyber crystals again in the wake of the construction of starkiller base or did create a disturbance in the force with their massive use of natural kyber crystals during the construction of SKB.

Either way, force technology has been introduced in a more broad spectrum with the ST. Iiirc even standard star destroyers are now using force enhanced weapons, just like in the good old times of legends when the Infinite Empire reigned supreme. And the prequels have yoda mentioning that the use of kyber crystals in weapon technology was nothing new at all, but rather a common thing when conflict between the dark and the light arose. Seems like Palpy did know every well that Ersos ideas can work, because he had the old knowledge of the sith lore.

Now that I think about, I would like very much when unlimited power introduces ways to enhance stuff like blasters or turbolasers with Kyber-technology. :)

Hi all!  So, I’ve been dithering and worrying about whether the Alchemist is going to have Lightsaber as a skill and have lightsaber talents.  I don’t want either to be the case!  But the iconic Alchemist is pictured in the announcement article, and she is holding a lightsaber, so…what do we do?  Math!

So far, we’ve seen the iconic character for 31 out of the 36 Force and Destiny specializations.  So I did some quick math to see how closely an iconic character holding a lightsaber correlates to the specialization in question having Lightsaber as a skill.

I broke this down into four main categories: Ignite (the character is holding an ignited lightsaber), Hand (the character is holding a lightsaber, but it’s off), Belt (the character is wearing a lightsaber on their belt), and None (the character is not depicted with a lightsaber).  Then I looked at how closely having a lightsaber in a particular position matched with whether that spec had the skill.  The final breakdown was rather surprising!

The final results were as follows:  Ignite 10, Hand 3 (including the Alchemist), Belt 0, and None 18, with 5 Unknowns.

Ignite:  The 10 specializations with ignited lightsabers are: Arbiter, Armorer, Ataru Striker, Makashi Duelist, Niman Disciple, Peacekeeper, Protector, Shien Expert, Shii-Cho Knight, Soresu Defender.  This means that, of the 10, 8 have lightsaber as a skill, and 2 (the Peacekeeper and Protector) don’t.  However, I did note that the Protector, despite not having the skill, does have a small branch of lightsaber talents (Parry, Reflect, and Circle of Shelter), so I gave it half a point.  That means that the final result is that if your specialization has an iconic character witgh an ignited lightsaber, there is an ~85.00% chance you will have the Lightsaber skill (or at least some talents for them).

Hand:  The only 3 specializations with a lightsaber in hand are the Alchemist (duh), the Aggressor, and the Shadow.  Dropping the Alchemist because that’s the one we’re interested in, that leaves us with a 100% correlation that holding an unignited lightsaber means you do not have the skill.  However, I note that this is a very small sample size.  However, combined with the below…

None:  The rest of all iconic characters do not have a lightsaber anywhere on their person.  I was actually somewhat surprised by this: I was expecting a fair number to have them on their belts, but I checked the images closely, and they don’t.  The only unknown is the Healer, who is only depicted on her Specialization Deck, and the image doesn’t show her waist, so she could have one and we just don’t know.  Also, all of the specializations in this category do not have Lightsaber as a skill, save one, the Sentry.  This means that if you are shown with no lightsaber at all, you have a ~94.44% chance of not having the Lightsaber skill.

All together, we can use the following statement with ~91.67% accuracy: specializations do not have the Lightsaber skill unless their iconic character is shown with an ignited lightsaber.

However,  this has still not convinced me :P !  The Shadow is shown with her lightsaber held up as she adjusts her hood, while the aggressor is wiping his lip with the hand holding his.  Neither is shown in a “combative” pose.  But the Alchemist is, despite her lightsaber being off.  So…I guess we still have to wait and see!  But maybe I’m feeling just a little better.  Maybe :) .

Ehhhh,  I'm fairly indifferent.  In the alchemy descriptions in the news articles,  it is used either to shape/change beings, or imbue weapons with the force (paraphrased).  Imbuing lightsabers seems like a thing to do.  I could see them have the skill, but have skills/talents that could have modify alchemy checks to craft things based on it using kyber crystals or not, making the crafting easier on a weapon like a lightsaber.

Also, I think the bulk of your argument there rests on the images being created before the specialization.  If the artist was handed the written description and lists of skills,  that might color how they drew the art for the specialization, since the mention of a lightsaber evokes a certain image in ones mind.  We really won't know unless the artists for the particular pieces speak to their motivations for drawing the art the way they did.

I dunno, what do you think?

Makashi is shown dual wielding but no skills to help with that are in the tree. My guess is the artists are given a brief description of what the spec is designed to do and then draws/paints/whatever based on that.

Indeed, along with Shii-Choo which is then given the term of jar-Kai or the art of using two swords, normally a shoto style saber is in the offhand. Just our speculation alone is making me want the book even more!

You guys are making this more specific than necessary :) .  All I wanted was a general measure of % chance of lightsaber yes/no based on the (very) limited information we have :P .

I hope Alchemist doesn’t use Lightsaber, we already have the Armourer who is likely to be intelligent, the Protector who is likely to be intelligent and then the Defender who relies on being Intelligent.

When FFG give us s new Lightsaber spec it’s because they wanted a new way for players to use their Lightsaber, Sentry is a great example of wanting a Ranged Lightsaber user. Prophet could quite possibly be that new direction. A Prophet sees the future, if they cannot avoid a fight then they need to be able to survive it by predicting the actions of the enemy and avoiding them. Reflect fits well with that, to balance the Parry monster that is Dualist, making part of the tree dedicated to avoiding being hit and finding alternative ways to end combat.

I think (hope) Magus is a Force focused spec

No no no O_O !  No lightsaber in the Prophet!  I'd accept it in the Alchemist a million years before the Prophet!  WWWHHYYY RICH!  Now I'm even more worried :( !

Worry leads to hate. Hate leads to fear. Fear leads to all 3 specs being saber trees.

Magus should have the saber, it should be more of a force focused combat tree. I'm thinking more like the talents in seer and niman that allow the use of force powers as maneuvers or maybe after missed combat checks.

Why do you people keep insisting on giving the Mystic lightsaber specs :P ?  They've already got one, and is more them enough!  If they absolutely need a second, the Alchemist should suffice; stop trying to put your laser swords in my spiritual mysticism!  That's what the Warrior is for :P !

Yes please give warrior 3 more lightsaber specs. That's the minimum I will accept.

Simple. Based upon the established pattern, every F&D career is intended to end up with two lightsaber specs.
