Jake "Intense" Farrel?

Recommended Posts

I had a thought while looking through a squadron builder program while building a list for a game I hope to get in tomorrow, and something dawned on me regarding the new "intensity" card. Couldn't it stack with Jake's pilot ability?

  • Jake uses Focus
  • Focus triggers his pilot ability, free boost/barrel roll
  • Intensity triggers, get a focus token free
  • Free focus token triggers Jake's pilot ability again, use the alternate action that wasn't used
  • Flip Intensity over
  • Bonus: use PTL for a target lock or evade

Is this sequence correct? If so, Jake just turned into a little monster...

You are correct, but taking PTL instead of VI may work against you, as you will be only PS 7.

I flew it with push, but it just doesn't work as well as VI most of the time, in my experience.

I've seen Jaketensity with VI on the local tables a few times.  It's pretty solid in that he can re-position twice and have two focus.  Plus side is that he isn't stress so can pull a one hard if needed and do it all over again (working on the assumption he flips Int. at the end of the round).  Downside is that sometimes he needs that TL...

Alright, thanks! We're doing a game using only Wave 1, 2, and 3 ships with access to all uparade cards - so I'll have to think about it! The TL could make the Prockets truly devastating, as well as the option to get an extra evade.

I used Adaptability Jaketensity with Garven T65 and Kyle HWK and a Bandit Z for a fun casual match. It won't win any championships, but it's stupidly fun to play.

Garven Dreis (26)
R2-D6 (1)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Jake Farrell (24)
Intensity (2)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Adaptability (0)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Kyle Katarn (21)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Blaster Turret (4)
Recon Specialist (3)
Pulsed Ray Shield (2)
Moldy Crow (3)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

Total: 100

I really like Adaptability/Chardaan on Intensity Jake.  I figure that if I invest the net 5 points to get Proton Rockets, I want the Target Lock (so I'll need PTL), and I want PS 9 from VI, so it won't work out with Intensity.  However, shaving Jake down to a mere 26 points has an appeal of it's own.  The two points saved against VI/PTL/Chardaan can be what you need to make a list work.

To the end of missiles having such a high cost on A-Wings, I would love if they had a new title.  "Reduce the cost of a missile upgrade by 3, to a minimum of 0.  When attacking, deal all damage cards face down."  No second title slot here.  Your second Elite upgrade would cost you a premium for your missiles, or you could run a cheap Missile without an EPT.  It'd be an interesting list building trade-off.  A PS1 A-Wing with a given missile upgrade would be 2 points more expensive than a PS2 Z-95 with the same missile, which seems like a fair price difference.  As is, the price difference is 5 points, which is just too large.  There might be a broken list though with 5x GSP with Deadeye, Cruise Missiles, and Guidance Chips.  So the exact title might need tinkering, but I like the core idea of it--trade a second EPT for a cheap missile.

Someone used Intensity Jake the other day to perform a focus, then jake's ability allowed for a boost, then Intensity gave another focus, then jake's ability allowed a barrel roll, then intensity gave an evade. Finally intensity was flipped down.

That makes it 5 actions without stress. I thought it was done wrong because of what the intensity card says about flipping it down, but I was told that they're all done simultaneously and on the same step, so it was ok.

what do you guys think?
