Do We Know Anything About List Building?

Recommended Posts

Hello all...

So, I've read that the 'standard sized army' is going to be 800 points and that the core set comes with ~400 points each of Imperial and Rebel.  I also noted that the units have Commander, Corps and Support types.  Have we heard anything yet about how armies are built?

I think it stands to reason that you have to have a Commander.  Can you have two Commanders?  Do you have to have a certain number of Corps units?  50% of your total points in Corps?  Minimum 2 units of Corps?  Any limit on the number of Support units as a ration to Corps units?

I'm guessing we don't know the answers to any of these questions.  Has anyone seen anything yet?

There was an image grab from the Team covenant demo video which showed the "force org" chart. However I can't seem to find it at the moment.

I think it was something like: 3-6 troops, 1-2 commanders, 0-3 support, 0-3 heavy, and 0-3 "something i can't remember"

It's 0-3 Special Forces and 0-2 Heavy(Snowspeeders and At-STs were mentioned, but no actual confirmations on what they are like)

Very similar to 40k in dispersement of points/units.

My biggest concern is how many additional units/boxes will be available upon releases aside from the Core? Going on the Core being 200pts of troops and 200pt Commander (I think Vader is something like 200pts and Luke 160pts), one would need three copies of the Core to run a standard tournament match - 600pts in troops and 200pt Vader. Like, RuneWars you might be able to find people who will want to split a Core, but also being SW means more fans might be completists and want both.

In the TC demo he said everything aside from Luke and Vader will be available separately upon release for something around $25 per unit. We haven't seen a specialist unit or a heavy unit but Snow Speeders have been mentioned as a heavy so I'm assuming we'll get at least one of each type for each army on release day.

Uhm no 2 copies would already get you there For example building this with what I've seen fromt he demo videos/previews

Vader 200 CHoke, Throw, Reflexes 30

5 Trooper +dlt 79

5 trooper +dlt 79

5 Trooper + HH 12 89

5 Trooper + HH12 89

2 Speeders +90

2 Speeders +90

Already puts you at 746 points, and you still have a variety of upgrades available or to enhance with purchased special forces/ heavies.

Might even be able to avoid a 2nd core entirely depending on the extra boxes they release

Single core squad gets you a 500pt squad and the 2nd one has diminishing returns due to not being able to double up vader.

I think I'll probably just start playing 500pts with friends witha single core, then buy standalones, depending on how the prices work out, 2nd core might still be a good price in the end. to get another 300 ish points going.

Starting out with a 3x3 for 500 point game would be a good way to learn the rules I feel. The only thing I'd be worried about with the 3x3 would be how fast the Speeders can move around the board. Unfortunately only time will tell and it's not moving fast enough. I'm ready for them to release the full rules online.

If that ends up being the case ( and it shouldn't, in interviews from gencon they have said this will be their biggest launch to date in minatures, having learnt lessons from armada and runewars) they will simply do what they did for the early days of armada and lower the competition points requirement until they have enough releases in stores to support the higher totals

This is for empire. Ive already done the math on another thread and rebels only get a max of 760pts from 2 cores and that might need one or two proxies. From 1 core the rebs get 476pts. Again likely requiring proxies.

Yeah come to think of it, 2 core sets might only be a thing you need if you want to bulk up on both factions, might be the cheapest way to get a solid start in both, if you only want a solitary faction single core then upgrade packs for your preferred side. But this is all just anticipation, we will know so much more about these things once they start announcing and previewing more of wave 1 stuff. I just figure that much like X-wing, mistakes shall be made :3

Each of the units has multiple upgrade slots so using those I'm sure there will be no issue hitting 800 with 2 core sets. The stack of upgrade cards at the demo was huge.

Imperials can get over 800 with no problem.  Based on what we know no, Rebels can only get to 763...

  • Luke Skywalker (160) w/Targeting Scope (6), Force Push (10) and Force Reflexes (15)
  • 4x Rebel Troopers (40) w/Targeting Scope (6), Concussion Grenades (5), MPL-57 Ion Trooper (32) and an extra Rebel Trooper (10)
  • 2x AT-RT (55) w/Long Range Comms (10) and an AT-RT Laser Canon (35)

Works out to 763, and that's with all of the available models and all upgrade slots filled with the most expensive known upgrades.  I'm also assuming that each core has at least 3 copies of Targeting Scope, as this list uses 5.  It's very possible there are only two copies and the list maxes out at 757 instead.

I think Imperials can field 835 points out of 2 core sets if you max out the upgrade slots with the most expensive known upgrades.
