Fourtytwo brings a brush and colours to Imperial Assault

Recommended Posts

I've recently started to touch up some of my older paint jobs in order to bring all my minis for IA to the same level. The first among these is Darth Vader - I improved the reflections of the lightsaber on his suit in accordance with the reflective properties of the different materials of Vader's suit. The challenge here was to create a strong effect without making the OSL overpower the miniature. I also improved the glints on the very reflective armour parts and the intensity of the lightsaber-blade.

Hahaha, I was looking at the pic thinking "yeah that looks great, I should definitely try to improve my Vader mini as well.  Maybe I can get it halfway as nice as this one" and then I noticed the caption said "before"...

"After" looks amazing.

I've painted two Royal Guards from Legion to replace my two from IA. They don't stand out from the IA-minis since Bespin Gambit regarding their scale, and I also put them on IA-bases to blend them in even more:

My custom-created map-project is also making progress, and I will post results here, soon...

Here's the layout for my custom-made 4-player map 'Sith Temple', inspired by the Malachor-design in REBELS. The most important elements are finished - structures like the walls, corners, pillars, doorways, and very importantly: the lighting effects. I'll propably go in once more and add a few unique details to each of the 8 chambers surrounding the central elevated platform…

Have you completed Chewbacca, IG-88 and Captain Terro???

I've painted Terro many months ago, Chewbacca a month ago, and IG-88 just now.

Terro:

For Chewbacca, I used his Legion-version, because I like it better:

I also do not like the sculpt for IG-88 in IA, so I built my own from scratch. It consists of 95 plastic parts I cut, carved, bent and drilled into shape. Four of those parts are taken from the IA IG-88, but were cleaned-up and modified: His two feet, and the first (top) and third segment of his head. The heavy blaster is the blaster from the Legion Landspeeder which I also modified.

Dear G*d!  Those, like all your others, are amazing.  I’d call myself a fair painter, but looking at these, I feel like a complete novice equally inspired and intimidated!

This. (Except I don’t call myself a fair painter, I’m a passable painter for tabletop results :) )

All of these pics are incredible, but the Chewbacca is truly jaw dropping.

I hope you feel more inspired than intimidated. It's all a matter of practice, not talent. Being intimidated would keep you from practicing and gaining experience, and I would never want that to be the effect of my postings! :)

Some creative space opened lately to insert the precursors of Palpatine's secret forces as a secret project during the Galctic Civil War...

So, I made a first variant of Sith Troopers for the era of Imperial Assault. I didn't simply want to paint stormtroopers red, and I also don't like the sculpts of the regular stormtroopers in IA. I took two spare Jet Troopers and two spare Riot Troopers and used parts and bits of parts of both to create Stormtroopers with blasters. Next, I used GreenStuff to modify their helmets to have some design elements which clearly nod towards the stormtrooper armour design decades later in the First Order, and also modified their blasters:

I also started painting both - heres a work-in-progress:

This looks really awesome! Very thematic design.

  1.  Did you finish the map? Are you going to publish the high resolution printable file?
  2. Does the concentration of red not distract from figuring out the tile squares? Once printed, I think the squares in the centre will be difficult to see. Perhaps something darker to create better contrast for the red in the middle?
  3. Does your map have any objectives and deployment guidelines?
  4. Any thoughts about a similar map for 2 players?

Thanks. The above is the most finished version I've done, yet - although I plan on revisiting it since I've started creating new elements which recreate the look of the Sith Temple and the battlegrounds surraounding it much more closely. As for the red floor with the white markings: I've test-printed the mapon neopren and all squares are clearly identifyable. I've not yet finalized missions, but I have a load of ideas. I'll very likely create more custom maps with unique environments in the future.

At the moment, I'm more into sculpting new figures. Ive finished sculpting and painting Sy Snootles:
