I periodically try to inspire some non-meta based talk by making an Epic ship build in which the title specified is required.  By using the keyword entitlement you can used the forum google-fu to find more.

I for one appreciate it.

Not sure about what I want to get for X-Wing, but I am thinking of running a two CR-90 list. Not exactly "by the book" where rules are concerned, but I am more of a casual and narrative player than a list building meta junky.

No single turbolasers? What if you have to fight another Capitol ship?

The primary weapon on a CR90 reaches further than any epic ship weapon in the game... It can also be a 5 red attack, so while undergunned at range, it can't be taken lightly. If, hypothetically, another player allowed the corvette to get to range 1-2, those quads will do some significant damage at minimum energy consumption. It's also well suited to deal with fighters which are really the biggest threat.

  • Still can't take two Supercharged Power Cells though... The card is Limited.
  • I'm not sure I like Dodonna himself on the corvette, he doesn't boost the capital ship and only other ships around it, very close... That said, obviously he's there for flavour.
  • Ordnance Experts? I'm assuming you are taking a lot of munitions around the corvette? Otherwise they don't do anything for you.

What are people's opinions of all around Ion Cannon Turrets on a CR-90?

Perhaps add in some jamming.

CR-90 cripples enemy ships for the rest of the fleet to take out. Just one of my build ideas.

Ion batteries are good. Hilarious when they hit TIEs since they throw a crit on top of the ionization effect. I've run them before on the CR-90, and will do so again.

CR-90 doesn't have the jamming action though... GR-75 is your boat for that. A fantastic fun ship.

So if I throw in a jammin' slicin' transport with an Ionising duo.

I'm pleased to hear that Ionizing Corvettes is an effective build.

What I really like is that Quad Laser Cannons instead of Single Turbolasers. The Dodonna's Pride title really encourages you to make good use of the coordinate action, which means you won't be using the target lock action as much. Sensor Team is a great fit with Supercharged Power Cells to get a really strong attack at range before enemies close in, when you'll switch to Coordinate. Since the Quad Laser Cannons get to make a second shot if they miss, you increase your chances of rolling well even without a target lock, though at the cost of some energy.

Of course, you'll want to make sure you have ships that can make good use of coordinate. Ordnance Experts will be helpful if you have ordnance-laden starfighters nearby. They would benefit greatly from coordinate in order to stack focus + target lock.

The other option is B-wings with Heavy Laser Cannon and Fire-control System. They hit hard, and can benefit from a coordinate to barrel roll after all other small ships have moved, or to pick up a TL if they lost theirs when they destroyed a ship the previous round. They can also stick close to the CR90 with their knife-fighting speed-2 K-turns, so I'm thinking Comms Booster might be nice to clear their stress and give a focus token. Then one of their hits turns to a crit if they are at range 1 of General Dodonna's ship. I would drop Ordnance Experts and the repeat illegal Supercharged Power Cells, to instead add Gunnery Team and Comms Booster. This increases the offensive power of the CR90, and also its role as a support ship.

I've pasted your ship in with a link to a squad builder, as it's easier to look up what various cards do. :)

I like the idea of a thematic build, and I can see how a Gunboat version of a Huge ship has a lot of appeal. However!

With the Dodonna's pride title, you're going to be doing a _lot_ of coordinate actions. That means you're not going to be doing many target lock actions. So Sensor Team might be a bit of a waste. I'd probably flip the Sensor Team to a gunnery team- or leave it blank. Leaving the team blank lets you put a Torpedo/Missile onto another ship- which will go well with your Ordnance Experts team and your Dodonna crew.

Supercharged Power Cells is limited, so you can't have 2 of them on your CR-90. Squad builders tend to treat each section of a Huge ship as an individual ship, and so tend to let you do this by mistake. :( let's see what else we can do with these extra 3 points and free slot.

For me, the obvious answer is Backup Shield Generator. It works nicely with the Shield Technician team, and survivability is nice.

I also love the Engine Booster. It lets you dash forward a bit, but you can't overlap. That's fine. You might well end up being able to smash something with your standard move. Or get in close to let those R1-2 guns work.

However! I think Comms Booster fits your needs a bit better. It's a support ability. It's got good reach, and only costs 1 energy to use. It's also silly when used on a Jake Farrell with intensity and a Procket.

Shield Projector could also be interesting, but tends to make Huge ships die even faster. It could create the ironic situation where someone really, _really_ wants to attack Biggs... But can't.

Slicer Tools are amazing, but are at utter cross purposes with your title. I don't recommend it for this build.

For the aft section, I like Shield Technician quite a bit. I might think about Breach specialist, but I think you're going to get more longevity with the Shield Technician.

In keeping with the support theme, I might put Inspiring Recruit on your ship, but I don't think that's needed on this build.

The other good options are Dash Rendar and Han Solo. They're both really good if you've got long range guns, but you're not doing that. Still, they're often over looked for Epic play, so I mention them.

If only Engineering Team and Engine Booster worked together! Alas. Engineering Team is a must have in any Huge ship, I think. So it's staying, regardless.

And that's how I would load out a Dodonna's Pride. It's very similar to yours, and needs to be surrounded by a fleet that will pack an offensive ordinance punch. That can get expensive, quickly. But. This ship should last a while to make good use of what it can do.

I like the Ion Cannon on a Gunboat build. Especially when there's another Huge ship on the board to deal with.
