Who is Buying This? Who is sticking with IA?

I like Star Wars better :)

As for my clan, story revisions aside,  the new game's mechanics don't feel like they work with old Crane. I might jump to a clan which feels like it kept more of its inherent concepts when I do pick up the game.

Is cool. At least you still have a clan. My fave (Spider) and second fave (Mantis) clans got wiped. But we're getting a bit of a community going on at the LGS so I'm exited to play.

No it really isn't.  IA is squads, with 8-15 or so models per side.  Legion is platoons with 30+ models per side.

You still have individual troops shooting at individual troops. Just increase the number of points to play with in an IA skirmish game and you can have the same number of dudes.

Xwing to armada is a clear jump. IA to Legion is just a case of, "what rules set do you want to play with using our equally small star wars figurines?" If it wasn't, so many players wouldn't be whining about not using Thier figures from IA in legion.

I have tons of IA and WOTC figures and tend to mod other systems to use the figures with - frothing over Legions and will probably build up the forces but use the cards and stuff with the IA and WOTC figures until I have gathered and painted enough.

Next year suddenly seems a long long way away lol !

Honestly, Played Legion at Gen Con, wasn't impressed. It felt like they mushed together the rules and mechanics of X-wing, Armada and IA and make this game. Foot units moves with range, vehical's need a measuring tool, range is measured by a plastic stick, felt kinda of sloppy. I don't think there will be "Army Books" as all the units had a card for it with all the information, and there were upgrade cards that could be used with your unit's. I hope FF doesn't pull the crap they did with Armada and force you to buy crap you don't want to play to get certain upgrade cards. If I want to play empire, I should ONLY BUY EMPIRE UNITS TO GET EVERYTHING...  I know I don't have to buy Tyranid to get upgrades to use with the Space Marine army I am building.

Like all FF core products, you will need to buy extra's of things that should come in the box. Having to roll 6 red dice where there were only 3 was a pain and the guy doing the demo showed the frustration in his face. As for the detail of the models, I'd put there a smudge above the IA model's. Good, but nothing Great in comparison to other war games out there. For me, Considering we have to build and paint each model, the game better be competitively priced. I better not be seeing a box of 10 basic StormTroopers for $50..

Bizarrely, I am finding that legions is killing, not only my interest in IA, but also in all of FFGs Star Wars games. Since they announced it, X-wing, Armada, ia, and legions are all appealing less. May be Star Wars game overload, but it feels more like overload with FFGs design philosophy. IDK, but I think that not only am I not going to be playing legion, bug I may also stop playing the other 3 because of it.

I'm starting to feel the same way, burned out on all the variations and cost sink. I'll let my friends buy Legion and I'll play it with them for awhile before I consider investing any more money into these types of games.

I will stick to IA, but not because I am a IA Loyalist, but because Platoons fighting each other is probably the least interesting aspect of SW for me. Imperial Assault has the friends going on an adventure vibe, which I love about Episode 4-6 The only SW miniature game that I'd buy from scratch would be a large scale ground battle game with Fighters, Speeders, ATs, Turrets etc.

Would I buy into Legion if it was copatible with IA? Completely depends on the investment I had to take.

The devs said they won't release like X-wing or Armada. This will follow the Runewars distributin model, where you can only purchase one faction to have all its toys.

I hate IA's skirmish system... I've played it twice maybe 3 times and that was more than enough for me.

Agreed, I bought the Core, but not a big fan of the skirmish system. The campaign is cool, if the release an app as promised for solo/coop play I'd buy some more expansions.

Sticking with IA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9INF-tOEUA

I looked at the figure 20 minutes of the demo. It looks cool but the more I think about the less likely I will be looking into Star Wars Legion:

- Duplicate of the figures I already have
- Game mechanics look like the game will be slower that IA
- Expensive and will need to buy what I already have with IA
- Re-painting the same figures again...
- Expensive if you want to get the terrain
- Storage is a problem especially if you want to play with 3D terrain (you probably will if you start)
- IA is good enough for me. Roll out a mat and play. I love the campaign and skirmish!

I am curious as to how many folks out there are planning on buying this, if you have already heavily invested in Imperial Assault are you planning on purchasing this?

Would you be more inclined to purchase this if the minis were compatible?

Is there simply too much overlap between IA and Legions for some of you out there?

Who is planning on purchasing both?

I will say that I am perfectly happy with IA and have ALOT of money and time invested in my IA minis and really enjoy the game, at present I have no real plas to purchase this as I see too much overlap and just not enough bang for my buck compared to putting those funds into more IA expansions and minis.

Nope.  I have heavily invested in IA.

Absolutely 100%.

Probably not gameplay wise, but still we're dealing with minis and I have put a ton of money into IA.

When i heard that Legion was coming, i was looking to get a copy of IA because at that time i did not know the scale of the figures was going to be different. Now thatbi know the scales are different i will only invest in Legion when it comes because i prefer skirmish games compared to the "dungeon crawl"  -like format of IA.

Everyone is different and that is cool so i make my choice for my reasons and i respect everyone else as they make their choice for their own reasons.

I bought some IA stormtroopers years ago but only ever painted one.  I found the models quite underwhelming, so I am very happy to see that FFG has gone with miniatures of a higher detail level for this.  I never played IA, and don't much care for dungeon crawler games, so picking Legion instead is an easy choice for me.

I was hoping for a 10-12mm game on Star Wars - so that a 6x3 table coud, for instance, fight Hoth or Endor or the stupid clone wars battle in Episode 1 with all the robots and tanks.

Legion - which I am excited for and definitely will be buying - seems to be a Star Wars game that will compete with 40k, Warmachine, etc.  Same relative scale, same "5-10 dudes equals a unit" format, similar unit cohesion concepts, with vwry different mechanics.

I think this is the right call from a business model since it's what a larger section of the tabletop gamer mase seems to want these days.  Legion will, as a general rule, require fewer figures to play than 40k and probably on par with Warmachine.  I would love to have to also have a Star Wars: Epic with smaller models, but allowing ion cannons, turrets, fighters, AT-ATs, and a more "grand scale".

But Legion looks way more polished and fun to me than anything released since Armada.  At least from the limited demos I've seen.

Unfortunately, it also means I will very likely sell my Runewars Miniatures stuff.  I don't really know the risk that FFG might cannibalize off it's other game lines, but this particular product seems to have a longer built-in shelf life than the Runebound universe as well as being highly thematic.

It's a tricky forest of business considerations to navigate, and I hope all FFG's lines are successful.

For tabletop miniature game hobbyists, though, a company has to prove that it will not abandon players who drop $500-$1000 on a game line.  They have proven this so far with *all* of their tabletop miniature hobby games: I'm thinking of non-boardgames such as X-Wing, Armada, and thus far Runewars Miniatures.

Good luck FFG.  You have a customer in me.

Another member of my family has already put a bunch of money into IA. We mostly use it for campaign stuff. So I guess . . . if Legion puts out some more interesting stuff, I don't really have to choose.

I will wait and see... I'm not pumped to repaint a bunch of the same figures when my IA backlog is so large.. but at the same time the game looks fun.

I think Id like to go with the scum faction though so that gives me some time. The elves just released in runewars and that was what, like six months after the core released? If my lgs has a healthy community by this time next year and they are following the runewars distribution, not x-wing then I'll bite.

With any new FFG competitive game it'll take 1-2 years before it reaches a good place. At least IA had the campaign mode to keep the game alive until skirmish was balanced and fun.
