kurttkrueger 119 Posted August 22, 2017 I've got quite a bit of IA. Still planning on buying and playing it, as me and the boy love a bit of skirmish. However, I am all in with Legion, and plan on buying all expansions. It seriously scratches my hobby itch. 1 qwertyuiop reacted to this
Frodos 41 Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) IA is not popular in my surrounding (i only saw this as a board game - at best). I hope that Legion will end up in better position. Look cheaper than GW products on the first glance (no armybooks - right now, hopefully a expansions/units will not cost too much). And X-wing is super popular* (like AoS or 40k) so maybe ppl who like x-wing will aslo try Legion? So answering a question - i will first ask local players if they are into Legion, if yes - im in too, if no - maybe i will buy core set and try it out (maybe some "show game"). *in my local store/play area's Edited August 22, 2017 by Frodos
Andreu 180 Posted August 22, 2017 Buying till it goes wrong... Maybe it actually stays good and fresh without having to pull weird EU or prequel stuff... I will not lose hope so soon the core set looks perfect to me
subtrendy2 2,975 Posted August 22, 2017 I may give Legion a try eventually, but I'm staying strong with IA for now. 2 qwertyuiop and thereisnotry reacted to this
Lord Ashram 988 Posted August 22, 2017 I'm buying it. never got imperial assault... not really interested in wargaming on a board, if that makes sense.
Sk3tch 571 Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) I'm in. Edit: double post. Said it twice it's so true. Edited August 22, 2017 by Sk3tch
DesignXception 66 Posted August 22, 2017 I'm IN. I have all of IA, all of X-wing, and all of Armada. They are all different games. Legion is a no brainer for me. Also, its only a matter of time before X-wing 2.0 gets announced (maybe as soon as Gen Con 2018) and will be a hard reset for that game that will force everyone to "re-buy" every X-wing miniature again for the new cards and ship stats. I can only imagine the uproar that will bring. However, its inevitable and must be expected for these types of competitive meta-driven games. FFG is in business to make money and with the current popularity of Star Wars its basically got a license to print money right now.
HooblaDGN 26 Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) I'm going to wait and watch and see. I would love to get into a good SW miniatures game. Thing is, IA Skirmish does a great job of capturing the feel of SW with its emphasis on small groups and individuals. I'm not too interested in the ground troops of Star Wars, for me it's about the characters (even made up minor characters like Terro). So if Legion looks like it's going to have a heavy focus on characters, I'm excited to jump in. If not, and it's an emphasis on the faceless core forces, then I'm not all that interested and will be content with IA. Time will tell which is the case! Rogue Dakotan 5,213 Posted August 22, 2017 IA Skirmish is one of my favorite things right now. Even so, I'm really excited about Legion. I'll stick with both as best I can. I think Legion will for sure step on Skirmish's toes, but they are pretty drastically different games. Skirmish takes up like 2'x2' really. Legion needs 6'x3'. Legion has a maximum of 2 commanders. In Skirmish I can have Obi Wan, Luke, Leia, Hant, etc all on one super hero team. Lots of different things happening. 2 qwertyuiop and thereisnotry reacted to this
Robin Graves 6,054 Posted August 22, 2017 I got some AI, and while i like Legion I'm not gonna get in because L5r and AH path to carcosa are comming out soon (that's not even counting Dice masters and MTG commander) and I'm not made of money. Also I would first like to see how many factions we're gonna get and find out if FFG is planning on adding the prequels and other movies.* * ok that's probably 90% certainly gonna happen. JoeVandal49 174 Posted August 22, 2017 As long as the miniature quality is on par with other tabletop wargames, im all in. I never bought into IA except for a few characters to paint, because the quality was severely lacking IMO.
DesignXception 66 Posted August 22, 2017 Hence the major difference between IA and Legion. IA "miniatures" are considered boardgame quality (lower quality) while Legion will have miniature wargame quality that is expected from a miniature wargame hobbyist. They may not be to the level of GW quality but much higher quality than IA figures. IA is a boardgame, Legion is a tabletop miniatures "hobbyist" game...they are completely different. 1 Robin Graves reacted to this
mulletcheese 689 Posted August 23, 2017 I'm sticking with IA, love the game but I'm not a competitive skirmish player. With a new campaign landing soon, an app in playtesting and new expansions due soon I have plenty to keep me happy.I I'll keep an eye on legion but If FFG have their usual release schedule it will 2 years before I see something I must buy. Armandhammer 431 Posted August 23, 2017 I currently own everything IA (okay, well 98%). As a campaign only player…I’ll happily stick with IA. …That being said, I liked what I’m seeing with Legion. The movement cohesion system is utterly fantastic. Love the emphasis on grounded, immersive battles. One of the primary reasons why I dislike IA skirmish so much is how goofy lists can be (see: Gen Con Winner). Still, as I mentioned elsewhere, I just can’t stomach the thought of owning two similar Star Wars miniatures games. Currently impossible to get excited for Legion expansions because I have them already in IA. I really want a friend to buy the core so I can play it but I don’t wanna buy it. At least, not in the near future. 2 thereisnotry and quantumsheep reacted to this
The Black Man 215 Posted August 23, 2017 I'm keeping my Imperial Assault, only had the core box and twin shadows plus all the models inbetween those two sets. I've always looked at IA as a module story boardgame anyway, not a true tabletop miniatures game. IA will be my Star Wars Mansions of Madness now and I'm perfectly fine with that. Now Legion, this is what I've been waiting for years. After seeing the demo, I'm super excited for this baby.

Amraam01 154 Posted August 23, 2017 IDK, I am luke-warm, haha, about this. A bit disappointed for the scale (Wanted smaller scale clone wars type land battles), but the mechanics look solid and fun so I may end up casually playing. Positives 1) Theme obviously 2) Good clear mechanics? 3) Shorter game 1-2 hours? Negatives 1) Time commitment, Not painted, assembled- Just want to pick up and play like Armada! Spent tons of time already painting IA, not in the mood to start over. 2) Cost- FFG style with tons of skews, core box taster at 90 dollars, needed accessories (Dice, Terrain, Wave 1 auto buy, etc) $$$ 3) Another squad combat game? - IA variety and 3 fractions right now is awesome. I own 1 of everything in IA, which is a lot of packages and costs. I really like how Paul has taken the game along and fixing certain aspects and has good vision. So, I will see how this plays out for now and sit on the sidelines, IA still takes the cake for me for now. 3 Tibbel, subtrendy2 and thereisnotry reacted to this

I like Star Wars better As for my clan, story revisions aside, the new game's mechanics don't feel like they work with old Crane. I might jump to a clan which feels like it kept more of its inherent concepts when I do pick up the game.

That's a major difference between the hobbyist and just a gamer, for those of us who are into the hobby part of it, we don't look at this as a burden, we look at it as the opportunity to paint more cool looking models. I'm not saying the gamer is wrong or anything, just saying that for me getting another and in this case better Vader to paint is not a negative. 1 Ralgon reacted to this
Norsehound 2,740 Posted August 23, 2017 (edited) 20 hours ago, qwertyuiop said: What the heck are you talking about? The games are completely different. If overlap entails surge icons, Star Wars universe, and depictions of bipedal humanoids.....sure. There's plenty of room for both. But both games represent dudes in a firefight. If I already own some of IA, why would I invest in any of legion? Especially if as you say, IA has a "fun and engaging skirmish system." If both games continue to be developed in parallel, IA will always have more figures available than Legion. It would be a different thing if, I dunno, Legion was zoomed out in scale to include more armored units like AT-ATs and fighters... but that isn't the case. It's literally the same scope of combat capable in IA. The only difference is one is indoors (IA), and the other is outdoors (Legion). There's also more than just the surge mechanics... there are other details that draw similarities to IA right down to the wound tokens being a colored-reverse of the ones used in IA. In my view this game is just a reworking of IA to compete directly with 40K.
