Star Wars: Legion large scale FFG ground combat minis wargame

Looks like a little different molds than IA, the stormtroopers rifle looks a little lower and helmet a little less bulbous than IA, but from these perspective shots they do look a little big for my liking. 10% smaller would have been ideal.

10% smaller would put it on the IA standard of ~28-30mm, after all.

I dare say its different for marketing.  They don't want people to use their IA stuff for Legion.  The intention is you get legion stuff.

these very well could have been the rapid prototypes, which means that finished models will be around 10% smaller due to how they will be made (molding, not 3d printing)

Important snip-it from the article for those worried about painting requirements for Organized Play:

"Although you don’t need to paint your army, many players find it more enjoyable to play with a painted army..."

So FFG is heavily insinuating painting will not be required.

@Tiberius the Killer

You think there will be much local interest for this? This seems a bit too big for a store like Dice House - those tables are already cramped on the daily- and I hardly ever see 40k being played anywhere near us, even when I have stopped by on 40k days at the realm and such it always seems like 2-3 people tops.

I would hop on the train in a moment if I felt like I could get a game, but I am worried the reception will be lukewarm, especially since the realm really would be the store for this and so many other Armada players are boycotting the store because of the management.

Yup, pretty flimsy, its "salvaged clone wars tech."

Uh... a fair bit of rebel stuff is salvaged clone wars tech, be it Y-wings, separatist capital ships and frigates, or even older republic stuff. The rebels would take whatever they could get, and considering the clone wars stuff was just from 20 years before and the Empire was pushing to phase that stuff out they probably got a decent bit they could use, including personal walkers that could have easily been taken from the clones post the battle at Kashyyyk or by the Twi'leks after the battle of Ryloth.

I suppose it really depends on what groups this will end up being most receptive.  I know a lot of our Armada guys hate painting, so I think that might hamper them a bit.  We'll see how many 40k guys want to switch over.

And you are right, there is no way Dice House could support much.  Armada games are hard enough in that place.  Do we know the board size for the game yet?

The core set games look 3 X 3, but as we know with Armada that is the size for the core games as well. I imagine it will at least be Armada size at 3' x 6', it may even be more likely that it will be at the standard 40k 4' x 6'

So, this means rebellion will be a campaign system to wage battles with Legion and Armada, right?

Glorious....

That might be glorious indeed, if it would make all of the games more interesting to play. However, it seem to me that the better you're playing Rebellion (making your battles foregone conclusions by overwhelming force), the less fun games of Armada, Legion, or X-Wing and Imperial Assault are going to be.

But, maybe we won't care all that much, as long as we have fun bringing out the miniatures.

Do we have a confirmation of the scale ratio between Legion and Imperial Assault? They look fairly equivalent to me, though I'd want to see the Legion vs. Imperial Assault miniatures side-by-side.

I'm not that confident that having them be different would actually be against FFG's interests. Having them be size compatible might lower the threshold for people wondering if they're going to invest in one or two of these games. Having them be compatible makes them both more attractive.
