  • I cant decide between WAT or Sear.

[walks back in]

WAT helps himself and encourages the opponent to shoot vultures.

Sear helps the swarm at range 1 or when the Charges are uncharged and encourages the opponent to treat him like Howlrunner*

Choose wisely

* in 7 games with my Sear swarm, Sear has never died, so I'm not sure if people really respect his "Infinite Crack Shots for my whole squad (and me if I took Kraken)" ability yet.

I think some of it is that you've got to spend the calculate for it, and folks already equate a calculate token with one and exactly one damage.

I figure it's pretty easy to look at Sear, figure that "Well, what's the difference between spending a Calculate to go from 1 to 2 hits, or a calculate as a crack shot for a 1-hit attack?  They'll both push the same damage against 1 evade."  The difference is that sometimes you'll roll natural hits, or also have a reroll, or have multiple calculate tokens, or spend tokens on another ship, and THEN the Crack Shot is felt.

So looking through Listfortress and Rebels made 11/16 of the cut in this US HSTrial. And the Rebels lists are pretty much all the same sort of "glue"(?) as you Americans call it.

Yeah, that was some boring @$% to watch and play against.  Luckily, I went WWLWLW for 20th, so I had some variety in the middling-ish tables.  I was #20, and "mixing it up" with Han, Heff, Blue B-wing.  (I was the only Han, one of two Heffs, and one of two squadrons with the Blue B-wing.)  I faced #1 Swiss at 2-0, and got demolished.  I faced two double-Firespray lists, and beat both.  (The first one was my first-ever Final Salvo (6-to-3, so I won), and we got to that point on some literal 150-to-1 variance, which (may have) kept me out of the cut on MoV.)  I beat a Wedge/Luke/Dutch torpedo list via range control, and got massively out-flown and walloped by an Inferno-swarm specialist.

I love Rebels, but man.

Have the rebs switched to Selfless/biggs beef from raw beef(UXXYY, Etc.)? I like raw beef, but super hate the AoE defense stacking squads.

I've seen an uptick in Biggs/Magva four ship combos. A rarity that I feel I was ahead of the trend. I don't think they are doing it quite right yet, most people have a pair of double tapping Y-wings, which are even less impressive when tied into a formation like that.

Weirdly, I find Formation Beef (Meatloaf?) squads easier to play against.  Their offense is worse, and more predictable, so while it takes more early work, the mid/end game is easier.

I agree with your assessment, but also note I just vastly enjoy those games less.

You're not wrong. Most players do just sorta march along into battle with only a focus token. It's strong only early on in a joust or if it gets up on you in points. Falls apart if you pick one or two off.

Of all the ways to buff the resistance bomber why did they have to pick this way?

Why not just wait for the rerelease and drop them all except vennie by 6 points?  That'd push plenty of new product!

And why do you think the motivation was to buff it?

Its a good question, I have no idea. We have seen them use rules before to make the players run a specific ship. It didnt end well then either.

Question is which bomber is the best? Finch looks hilarious to me.

Yes, but the problem I faced when I fought Brandon's damage-spreading Biggs/Wedge Swarm Tactics beef is ... well, let's be honest: the biggest problem is that I couldn't avoid giving him a joust he wanted in a decent place for him.  But, beyond that, facing damage spreading with non-arc-dodgers, you need to roll at least a tiny bit on the right side of the bell curve, because once you've lost a ship, and he hasn't, it snowballs.  That's what happened to me.

On the other hand, facing the triple-Proton list, it's all about range control.  That's something that I have a say in ... and consequently it was a much easier game to win.

But yes ... to answer the original question, the most successful Rebel lists seemed to have damage mitigation and damage spreading.  I'm not going to compare it to 1E, because it's nowhere near as degenerate, but it's tougher to fly against and beat -- for me -- than straight beef and red-dice output.

Oh, c'mon.  That's not an intent to buff the bomber.  (Really?  And an intent to buff Deathfire?)  It's just how they wanted it to work from the beginning.  If they really wanted to buff the Resistance Bomber, you don't think there's a more straightforward way to do it?  (There is.)

Finch looks like vulture-mains are going to call for an increase to seismics and protons. Proton on the tragedy launch, and Paige the seismic. Just spam the ability and forget trajectory in case a scrum should occur.

In your games, was there a critical mass in having multiple copies of selfless or was just Biggs and one copy enough?
