While not wrong, I think there can sometimes be a benefit to a relaxed "eh, dice..." mindset.  In a lot of games, there are some losses you just need to throw away.  Forget about it, move on.  That can be move on to the next game, but also sometimes just to the next turn.  Maybe look back later, try to find improvements in decision making, but there can be a downside to obsessing about the past when you've got more X-Wing to play.

Of course, this presumes a chill rather than salty "My dice!" sentiment.

Some people, they can't handle the swings.

Let the past die, kill it if you have to.

Playing devil's advocat: Maybe it is, unironically? As long as it's not followed by the usual green dice power creep?

Wait when did I even post this

That brazilian guy with RAC against the CIS swarm on stream right now. I hope he can handle it, it is such a crushing game!

This really was what turned me away from RAC/Carnor, RAC/QD and similar lists in 1.0. The wins were cool but RAC losses can feel so devastating. Hard not to feel helpless as the crits pile up.

That said, this version of RAC/Whisper is a ton of fun. I ran it a bit before the points adjustment and some lists have very little they can do to answer it. RAC bombing in and controlling the board by bumping one threat, Vadering it down, and taking up a bunch of space while shelling out VTG shots is hilarious. I think running up against 7+ double-modded shots just might be the worst possible matchup for it.

EDIT: I don't often endorse straying beyond this thread but this is where I first found this list. Most of the stuff after OP's post is just people theorycrafting worse variations on the original list but the main post is great. Post points adjustment you have to cut something (probably the Hull Upgrade, which still really hurts).

From a judge

Any Supernatural Reflexes for Republic or First Order? It's way underrated for its hefty price tag. If I could dodge a losing record with it, certainly the average tryhard could easily have a dandy chance at 6-1 with it.

@Jeff Wilder You seem to have thoughts on this topic!

I have many.  Non-exhaustive:

(1) Nobody is capable of flying a meaningful game  in which variance is not a potential factor.

(2) A good player understands that being on the bad end of a 1-in-20, or 1-in 100, or 1-in-1000 event that decides a game does not mean that the losing player necessarily made a mistake being in that situation.  In fact, speaking generally, the greater the unlikelihood of the bad variance event, the more likely it is that the player made good choices to be in the situation.

(3) By necessity, then, it follows that always saying "just look for a way you could have flown better and avoided that situation" is its own form of not having a good grasp on the game.

(4) Strong players understand that to evaluate a game, or a list, or a strategy, they need to not only understand probability, but to be able to incorporate variance event into their analysis of a game or game situation.

(5) For the most part, the only time making truthful and accurate observations about variance events or imbalances is bad is when the player doing it has always been the type of player from (3), above ... until it happens to that player.
