Best "50 point" squad.

So there are times when we all build a nice Ship-heavy list, and just want enough squads to keep the opposing squads off us for a round or 2. What do you think the best 50(ish) point squad is right now?

Blount and 5 headhunters give you numbers. And for Imps I don't know if you can ever do better than good ol' Howlrunner and 3 Interceptors.

What else do you use?

2 X-Wings, Jan and a Z95 = 52 points.
Jan lends braces to the X-Wings while the X-wings protect her (and the flimsy Z95) with their escort rule.

Or

3 A-wings and Shara = 50.
Fast, with the ability to alpha strike to get in the first punch. Then as the enemy wipe you from the skies you keep on rolling blue dice with the counter 2 (or 3).

4 TIE Advanced squadrons=48 points. Put jamming field on a nearby gozanti and you have a real tar pit.

4 YT1300s=52 pts. Just for the LOLs but also very effective. Counter 1 and 7 hullx4 is pretty hard to chew through.

Soontir Fel, Darth Vader and Zertik Strom=54 points. Fighters have to chew through the escorts and eat Soontir Fel ability damage.

I think for Rebels it's pretty tough to beat Shara and A-wings.  Tycho just ain't what he used to be in a post-Sloane world.

X-wings and Jan still need some Squadron commands, which is fine is you have them, but not as much if you don't.

I haven't ever tried Jamming fields, but that is some nice tar pit action.

Classic six TIE/LN, 48 points. Four TIE/LN, 44 points. Two TIE/LN, two TIE/D, 48 points. Valen Rudor, Cienna Ree, two TIE/LN, 46 points. Two VT-49 Decimators, 44 points. Just to name a few for Imperials that are 50 or under.

Cienna, Valen, and 2x TIEs. Works great in combination with Instigator and flechettes. If you have the points to upgrade the TIEs to Interceptors, it's even better, but unnecessary. They're there to be extra hull for Instigator. Cienna and Valen as just a pair have great synergy if you're looking for something even cheaper.

My question is what are you supporting or pushing these squadrons with? Are these just some token squadrons to get in the way or do you have some ships committed to commanding them? If there's no ship really set up to help my squads out then, I'd be looking at going with a bunch of Rogues.

For the Imperials I'd likely turn to Bounty Hunters like Boba Fett and Bosk. If Rebels, I like Hera with a pair of X-wings.

Good point, I'll try that out, I don't want to spend too much on squadrons though

I did and I learned that the jammer applies to both defenders and attackers. I'm new to the game and wasn't expecting to have a negative effect on me as well.

Activate them from a victory or quasar with flight controllers and you've got a freight train with no brakes.... it's pretty nasty.

Its not 50 points, but Marek, Jendon, Valen, Saber are just disgusting for 66 points. Just take two gozantis (you are going to take them anyway) and relay from the back board edge. Very deadly and almost impossible to beat for the same points in a squad battle, and marek with jendon bombs better than 4 x wings just by himself.

If you want to drop it to 50... Jendon, saber, valen, and a plain tie almost does it, though with vastly reduced goodness.

Well, the Jammer is meant to slow them down. You can't expect yourself to be able to punch through the enemy fighters, the jamming field and the TIE advanced are meant to just slow the enemy bombers. The flotilla carrying Jamming Field can AA/flak fire the enemy fighters, though.
