TIE Silencer: Kylo Ren Interceptor

It's like saying that the son of a car racing champion is more likely to drive a cab. Of course it makes sense for Kylo to be a pilot; of a TIE Silencer, not a shuttle. It wouldn't even be in the Empire's mindset: these are VIPs, they may fly fighters in battle, but they are flown around by their staff when riding transport ships. Picturing Vader or Palpatine flying a lambda is just silly, and it should be the same for Kylo Ren on an upsilon.

Maybe he likes that ship for personal reasons, could have been the first one he was taught to fly something :P

No, that is not what I am saying, and not the same.   Vader HAS flown a shuttle, in the novel Lords if the Sith, during a moment when said shuttle was being targeted by enemy ships, almost like in certain dogfighting game.

If Kylo is a better pilot, and in a combat situation - like x-wing represents - then it absolutely makes sense to take the stick/yoke/controls.   Star Wars is a very hands on universe, and where the name of the game cargo run simulator, then I would agree wholeheartedly that Kylo would not fly.

Now of course you will Ask "well then, Why doesn't Vader have a shuttle pilot?" Several reasons, the book with the aforementioned scene was not published, or written even, yet and what would it add to the game?  The Force Awakens also was very light on content x-wing wise, FFG had to likely include any characters that were recognizable.  Also, The shuttle has very limited use, and will likely not see an upgrade, but who knows.   As it is, Vader is represented by his iconic ship.

i imagine Kylo in the shuttle was an excuse to get him as a pilot since at the time we had no idea he had a special TIE or anything. Least i never heard of him having one until the "totally not TIE Avenger" got leaked. Had that already been leaked prior to the Upsilon design the top renbat pilot would probably not have been him and he'd have stayed a card. Hell his pilot ability even feels like it was slapped in there, how many pilots have a crew card that is essentially the same thing? Since nobody has an action for an ability they just had to trigger it some other way..ohay hes on a support ship give it a deterrence from being shot!

even still its kinda amusing that hes the only Force user pilot that has an ability that actually feels like he's using the Force lol. You could say Luke is, but wouldnt that make more sense on offense not defense?

"The Force is strong with this one"

Said as Vader is on Luke's tail, trying to shoot him down and not yet managing it.

Also, if you look at them together, many of the Force-Sensitive pilots (at least for the rebels) and a pretty consistent theme - usually related to focus results or tokens. Imperials and Scum are more scattershot, though Maarek Steele (who was an Emperor's Hand at one point) and Kylo Ren both do crit fishing.

George Lucas isn't involved in any of the Disney Star Wars movies.

Therefore they are by default better than the prequels. Say that Episode 7 is a rehash all you want, but it's a rehash of a great movie.

The less that George Lucas can ruin with his grubby, fat fingers the better. He even made a Special Edition for THX 1138. TIE Fighters were almost purple until someone stopped George Lucas.

Star Wars was supposed to begin with Luke and his friends on Tatooine. Due to being told by others what to do (some corporate movie studio that George Lucas hated and turned into), the movie begins the way it does and it's better for it. The beginning of the radio drama is always a slog to get through because it opens like the movie originally was going to.

Star Wars is only as good as it is because of people other than George Lucas.

Looks great. This must get an x-wing release!

I wouldn't be surprised if it is one of the movie TIE-in releases.

As for the ship I am guessing a 3 firepower 3 agility 3 hull and 1 shield ship with tech slot and missiles. TL boost barrel-roll focus, and some title to give it evade as well. I also guess it will be similar to the TIE Interceptor Dial wit ha pair of T-rolls. Starts at 21 points.

I was going to say; he's Solo's kid, and was taught by Luke - both exceptional pilots.

The thing is, I'd be perfectly happy with him sticking at PS6. That's good enough to be 'good' - it's more than enough for Vessery and Ryad - without needing to be "Soontir Fel Plus" - especially if the ship is fairy defender-esque in its fighting style.

It could be especially mean if it has a reliable means of getting critical hits; a ship with Kylo's ability and a slot which can take a Mangler Cannon, for example, is an unpleasant one to take on in a dogfight. Him being only PS6 is not really an issue when the first time he hits you you're going to be PS0....

I think both 9 and 8 are justified. Arguments for 9:

- Son of Han Solo (PS 9), Grandson of Vader (PS 9), taught by Luke (PS 8) and has probably more flying experience than Rey (PS 8)... Let's see if he's matched agains POE (PS 8/9) in the movie

- Balance-wise, ps 9 is very important to have for an arc-dodger, ESPECIALLY with those Dengars, Nyms, Reys etc out there

Arguments for 8:

Not as powerful as vader, never listened to his father...

- Balance-wise, ps 8 is still good for an interceptor/defender style ship (Duchess, Rexxler, Carnor, Echo) and this would take the focus a bit off of arc-dodging, allowing/asking for a sturdier and slower frame. Just imagine a 6 HP Soontir - would be pretty disgusting. A 6 HP Rexxler, in turn, is no problem because of the less dodgy frame.

So the official Star Wars website has been updated and has this ship listed:

"Reminiscent in design of the Empire's TIE interceptor and Darth Vader's TIE advanced, Kylo Ren's TIE silencer is an angular fighter equipped with laser cannons and missile launchers. Ren is an expert pilot -- thanks to skills passed down from his father -- which he puts to use in exploiting his ship's speed and ferocity. There is no other First Order craft like the TIE silencer, and it is an effective tool in Ren's mission to destroy the Resistance."

So by that logic:

TIE V/N Space Superiority Fighter
Test Pilot - PS2
Inferno Squadron - PS4 (EPT)
Knight of Ren - PS6 (EPT + ability: ???)
Kylo Ren - PS8 (EPT + ability: The first time you are hit by an attack each round, assign the "I'll Show You The Dark Side" Condition card to the attacker.)

My thoughts on the ship:

A3 E3 H3 S2
Focus, Evade, Target Lock, Boost
Missile Slot + Tech Slot
Title: TIE Silencer (unique) 1 points
When you declare the target of your attack, if you are within range 1 of the defender, assign that ship a stress token.

Dial:
1: Turn(W) + Bank(G)
2: Turn(G)  + Bank(G)  + Straight(G)
3: Turn(W) + Bank(G) + Straight(G) + S-Loop(R) + T-Roll(R)
4: Straight(G)
5: Straight(W) + K-Turn(R)

I think the base generic will be PS 5 with an ept then named pilots at PS 6/7, PS 7/8 with Kylo at PS 9.

Also I think the dial is going to be:

5: K-Turn (Red), Straight (White)

4: Straight (Green)

3: Hard Turn & Talon Roll (White), Straight, Bank (Green)

2: Hard Turn, Bank, Straight (Green)

1: Hard Turn (White), Bank, Straight (Red)

The above makes it a mix of the Interceptor and advanced, it gains the slow speeds Tie Fighters don't have with the hinderance of it being stressful, the white Talon Roll is a nod to the Defenders white K-Turn and lines up with the Imperials being Arc dodgers

In terms of action bar I'm expecting Focus, Evade, barrel Roll, Target Lock & Boost

Slots - Cannon, Missile, Systems, Tech

Silencer will be a Title and I think it will be something to block out pilot abilities / upgrades when attacking or defending against the ship, in effect silencing them....I couldn't help it.

Also think we will see a new version of the Tie Advanceds advanced targeting computer, maybe as a tech slot item instead of systems.

Points cost for the Ps 5 generic I think will be 32-34 with Kylo at the top being 35-38.

That sounds 100% like what it should be. It's not a TIE Silent (that would have cloaking device and such), but a TIE Silencer so yeah, something blocking abilities/actions/upgrades or locking some choices (can't attack the same ship as other of the squad for instance, because coms are silenced...).

Silencer title gives regen confirmed.

I'm feeling this being a Defender style heavy jouster, personally.  Missile, Torpedo, 4 hull, 3 or 4 shields, 3 or even 4 attack, good ability to turn round, but no boost, 3 greens with focus and possibly evade or some kind of CDP-style generic title related to jousting defence.

Make it something thatg basically just throws itself headfirst into the enemy with big-*** guns and tanks it to death.  Fitting with Kylo's fighting style.

I'd also like to see a Phasma pilot and crew, both of whom gain Coordinate to the ship's action bar.

Unless, the Empire get some shield regeneration.

I'd be down for that.

Wasn't there an imperial BB droid leaked recently too...

yes, would it have been so bad if Phasma climbed into a cockpit and blasting Poe and Finn instead of some rocket? Man, that would have been cool and would given her charakter some badassness

Yes, BB-9E.  While we don't know  for sure the role he plays, he (or she) does also come packaged in the Lego set for Kylo Ren's TIE Fighter.   Now while Lego does include extra minifigs usually, the Silencer could conceivably have an astromech (with a new icon) for said ship, and a later release for the V-wing.

I wouldn't mind another "new" Ace or one from the dusty tomes. "Quickdraw" hasn't felt any prejudice in that regard. It's more important that the expansions comes with a PS 9 moreso than the name on it.

As far as mechanics go, I like ISYTDS at PS 6. It gives Kylo the opportunity to use his condition after he's been hit.
Also, does he really seem like he would as good a pilot as Vader or Fenn..? Or become one in the time since TFA?

But imo, the most important thing this expansion can come with is an EPT or title that brings the Imperial damage curve up to snuff - or a way to deal with stress. I wouldn't mind a Title for the FO Interceptor and Tie/In that allows for two EPTs instead of two Modifications.
