martok2112 373 Posted July 7, 2017 I've already posted my wee rant about Photobucket's new policies in another thread, so I'll forgo that here. Here are some other Star Wars CG models I've built over the last few weeks that are not based on Star Wars Armada miniatures. Oh, when I got started on this whole CG model building and animation kick about 12 years ago, the very first model I ever built was the classic battlestar, Galactica. Over the years, my abilities with Blender and iClone have increased considerably.....well....considerably for me anyway...I'm still very much an amateur. But, I finally decided it was time to get back to trying to rebuild the old girl. So, I'll post a few pics of her head section so far. Failed....hmm.... apparently my images are too big. So....resizing. 2 GhostofNobodyInParticular and WGNF911 reacted to this
martok2112 373 Posted July 7, 2017 Ok....so, can't post my other stuff here....but I understand...memory costs. Well, hmmm....
Drasnighta 26,831 Posted July 7, 2017 imgur might be the go-to instead of photobucket, m'friend. The link copy-paster here will also accept facebook, too 1 martok2112 reacted to this
martok2112 373 Posted July 7, 2017 Thank you. I'll definitely check out imgur. I don't do the social media thing with Facebook or any of that stuff, but thanks.

martok2112 373 Posted July 7, 2017 And, as I stated before, I am rebuilding the first model I ever made in the computer 12 years ago.... the classic Colonial battlestar. Here's the head section thus far: Thank you, again, Drasnighta. 2 GhostofNobodyInParticular and WGNF911 reacted to this
martok2112 373 Posted July 14, 2017 (edited) Here is a little more progress on my rebuild of the classic version of the Colonial battlestar. First, a textured image: Then a wireframe image: My technique for building models now, whilst far from perfect, delivers much faster results. I actually pretexture, and then using the Knife Project feature in Blender, I am able to cut out a shape with the textures intact. Then, I use the Knife Project feature to extrude what would be greebles on the hull of the ship. As you can probably see, I've only gotten down to extruding elements on the top part of the main body of the ship. In iClone, this will look even more convincing, especially with the way I'll have light playing off the hull. For now, these are shots from Blender. martok2112 373 Posted July 27, 2017 Here's some progress on my classic battlestar rebuild. Will work on the struts for the underside, and then start on the engine....and then, the flight pods. 3 TheToad, Noosh and GhostofNobodyInParticular reacted to this

martok2112 373 Posted August 5, 2017 Still needs a few tweaks, but for the most part, the battlestar is done. Nameplates are easily changeable so I can have the battlestars Galactica, Pegasus, Atlantia, Rycon, Triton, Columbia, and Pacifica. For now, she's the Galactica. Landing bay approach lights are animated A few more details to add here, and it'll look better: I hope you like. 7 Dupy, GhostofNobodyInParticular, Stasy and 4 others reacted to this

martok2112 373 Posted August 7, 2017 (edited) Made a couple more tweaks to the model: -Rounded out the auxiliary fuel tanks ('least, that's what I calls 'em) on the engine section. -Added the broadside missile launchers on the flight pods. -Improved the positioning of the engine glow so it is seen from a wider angle. Oh, and took another liberty with the design, and added flood lighting to the name plates on the flight pods. I always felt the reimagined basestar looked a little too aesthetic for a group of killer robots. Then again, so did Tricia Helfer. Keep up the good work Martok, that Galactica model is real nice. martok2112 373 Posted August 27, 2017 Thank you, most kindly, Bike Stunts. Admittedly, I wasn't too crazy about the jack shaped basestars either. I liked flat, hourglass classic basestars. Ahhhh,,,,but Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Lucy Lawless....phwooaarrrr!
