Has anyone tried writing up the Krevaaki species?

In reading the Wookieepedia entry I would tend to agree with TheShard, with the possible exception of Wounds and Strain. The Krevaaki are covered in an exoskeleton would that not up  the wound threshold?

Nope. It would up the Soak value.

Ultimate Alien Anthology (Saga) has stats for them. Let me try to "convert" them.

Characteristics - +2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma

Easy enough to figure this as 3 Willpower and 1 Presence. Everything else is a 2.

Wounds/Strain - 11 + Brawn; 9 + Willpower

Balance

Natural Armor/Resilient - +2 AC, +1 Fortitude

Translates to 1 free rank in Enduring, +1 Wound. I've opted against the free rank in Resilience for balance reasons.

Stoic - -4 on Sense Motive checks against them.

Easily translates into a free rank of Unrelenting Skeptic.

Tentacles - Numerous physically enhancing things.

I'd allow this to give a Boost die to all Athletic and Coordination checks. Extra maneuvers is VERY costly balance-wise and nothing in the previous editions indicate that ability.

Overall, not bad. However instead of the added wounds, I'd add +2 soak instead.

Gotta vehemently disagree here. Soak is an INCREDIBLY valuable resource. Only two species get increased soak (outside of Brawn increases) in Droid and Mustafarran.

A minor nitpick, Hutts also start with Enduring. Also, Soak is not a resource, as it is not spent on anything.

I'm not sure they have a strong enough case for a mechanical increase in soak through enduring.

They have so many tentacles multiple limbs make so much sense...

If you want multiple limbs as an ability, you'll take a huge hit to characteristics (all multi-limbed species have two 1s) and XP. And, based on Saga write-up, they don't get the dexterity from their tentacles that say a Xexto does from extra arms.

And in D20, Krevaaki had +2 to their Damage Reduction. Hence the +2 to soak.

Right. But literally nothing gets +2 free soak (except from Brawn increases). Increase Wound threshold for one of those. It's all about balance.

Yeah in this system +2 soak is too big a bonus.

I disagree that it's too big a bonus. And no, swapping the values to add more Wounds does not balance it out. They're not known for being extra "healthy" more so than having a natural hard armor, and if you look at all hard armors, they typically have a +2 Soak.  Most of the species curently published that might have a bonus to Soak are reptilian, with scales, not a chitinous shell. A chitinous shell is much harder than reptilian scales.

Your confusing narrative fluff with mechanical balance.

Yes they arn't more healthy but me mechanically it makes them more tough.

You'd be hard pressed to find anything other than tricked out heavy battle armour with more than +2 soak. So yes thats a crazy advantage, basically the equivalent of heavy armor that never wears out, never draws attention... No thats too big a bonus just to indulge your literalism.

Literally a four armed species can wield 2 pike sabers, mechanically they cannot.

Sometimes you make compromises that ensure balance over realism, just as this system built on narrative rules over simulation based rules.

I disagree. Wounds are a measure of how "healthy" a character is, not how "tough" they are, nor how hard it is to hurt them. That is a measure of Soak. And yes, a hard Chitininous shell is, and should be, equivalent to heavy battle armor in terms of it's ability to stop damage, because that is exactly what it is, it's heavy, rigid, hard armor. So yes, an Enduring +2  (granting +2 to Soak) is perfectly warranted. It is not too big of a bonus. It is exactly what the species calls for.
