I can't tell you how happy I am with Mace Windu! He is so thematically accurate and Master of the Council is really good on him too. My only complaint is that his special is very situational, but nice when you can get it. Like others said, kudos to FFG for the flavor text!

Take a look at Mace again - it's not a special, it's an action ability.  No roll to worry about hitting or changing, just pull the die and boom.

Empire at War should be printed in adequate quantities, right? IIRC spirit of rebellion was super scarce because they ordered it before the first set launched. Empire at War, having come later, should have a decent sized run, right?

Right, sorry. Meant his ability, sorry about that. You're right, it's not going to get in your way. It makes him a rare character who completely avoids that annoying moment when all you need is a couple more hits to win and you roll a blank!

Wrong again; Mace is legendary.

Intentionally misconstruing the point. He's not saying Mace is a Rare, he's saying he's a rare character within the context of circumventing an opponent's defenses on a low health character.

Rare was perhaps not strong enough language. He's the ONLY character who can do this. Every other character can blank out at the crucial moment.

I too was a bit disappointed with some of the artwork of SoR.

The worst offender being:
SWD04_137.jpg

When this card appeared on the forum (from an unofficial source) before SoR came out I thought it was a fake that art is so bad!

I thought the same thing  with Cat and mouse

Yes, jokes are very often deliberate misrepresentations. How perceptive of you to notice.

Being able to consistently and unconditionally look at your opponent's hand is frickin' amazing.

And to take crimelord away just by activating  him.

While this is true in isolation, practically speaking it's very unlikely.  By the time you're in his range to kill characters, there's a good chance you've got a lot of upgrades.  It's not "Does Mace roll a blank?" it's "Do you blank on Mace and every one of your upgrades?"  Vibroknife has already made most defenses irrelevant, so it's "Do you roll a blank on all your dice AND have you been super unlucky and not drawn a Vibroknife?"

It's a decent ability, but it's hardly going to change the game, and I suspect that once it all falls out his point cost will make him binder fodder.  But I could be wrong :)

Very upset that they made Chopper a Support and not a Character. I knew FFG was gonna blow this due to the way droids have been depicted in this game so far (outside of IG-88). Hope that whenever they make new versions of the Rebels, Chop gets his day as a character.

Thrawn looks fun, Mace is a surprise but not an unwelcome one (good for trade bait). Ezra surprises me as Yellow honestly, but like someone else said it gives design space to make a better version as Blue down the line later.

I fully expect an "all droids" character set in the future.

Of course not, I am incredibly hopeful there will be adequate stock this time. But I am not holding my breath.

It may not be a situation of rolling him and all his upgrades.  It could be that you have resolved the rest of your dice for a round and have a non-damage side on a remaining Mace die.  Imagine, for example, after several rerolls you get the 4 Melee and a resource on Mace, a 2 Melee on your Padawan, and the +2 Melee on the Padawan's Vibroknife in round 1.  Now you do 8 to your opponent's Rey and wipe her out with the other Mace die.

The other good thing about it is that it's beyond unblockable, it simply says "defeat." So, at some point, if there's a card that blocks "unblockable" damage, it still won't block Windu. And cards that might reduce a number of damage or instantly move damage or something weird like that also won't trigger. Just thinking for the future. Right now it's basically like dealing 2 unblockable damage.

He's definitely interesting, but very expensive.  I think his 4 damage side is his biggest factor because of potential Destiny shenanigans.  I'm far more interested in Thrawn, though.

It looks like Blue Hero is getting some needed love in EaW. Windu provides both a true damage machine AND that character (not Special) ability makes his dice become deadly no matter what side they are on. Ezra's inexpensiveness combined with his ability again helps Hero as they really needed another cheap character.

Thrawn is interesting - the minute I saw him I thought of pairing him with characters and cards that look at hands. He also is great mitigation against cheap Events and Abilities as you can just activate him first and call out "0" or "1" and in the current cheap card meta you're almost assured of getting to discard as well as look. Alternately you can do something like each turn call out "4" and prevent Mind Probe from ever getting played except if your opponent has the Battlefield and does it first - ditto Rise Again.

Sure, there are certainly cases where it will be useful.  But most of the time, one of his damage sides would do just as well, and he's half damage.

It's not a useless action by any means but I've seen people raving about how game-changing it is, and it really just isn't.  It's decent, but he's also the most expensive Hero character to date (only behind Palpatine overall) and that's going to limit the ways you can build decks around him.  A Padawan seems like the best choice, but that locks you into mono blue.  Ezra, and all the other generic characters are ranged, and will mismatch.  Maz is always an option, but it's a pretty weak die, although being able to focus into his 4 damage may turn out to be Poe-level good.

Yeah, if/when they ever decide to print hero melee outside of blue, that might be a game changer. Assuming it's not prohibitively expensive, anyways. Mace throws up enough big numbers to catch the eye of all those Timmies out there, but I'm not convinced that he's any good just yet.

Sabine is the only character I'm not super excited for so far, but that could easily change after seeing what else is in the set.

Will be fun to try out Ezra with Luke and old Ben. Hopefully they add clone troopers for 7 and a 7/10 character for the villain side. The more options the better!

Clone Troopers would be nice! I'll also settle for a good old-fashioned Imperial Stormtrooper...
