Shipyards in the Calixis

Recommended Posts

I have a small question pertaining to ship building in the Calixis sector. As far as I can find, the main construction capability of the sector is around the great orbitals of Perinetus. Besides this, I expect that there will be quite a few hive worlds that can construct ships, Imperial Navy stations like Port Wrath might have a limited production capacity and the Lathes will construct their specialized craft (although the odd gravity of their system might mean that it is a far from ideal place to build your basic Imperial ships.

Any ideas on this. Feedback is highly appreciated.

Was there a question in there somewhere?

Calixis is a border sector in Obscurus and outside the shield sectors around the Eye of Terror; that means few hand-me-downs, and low priority for reinforcement. What they have, they inherited from the crusade fleet that settled the sector, plus what they can build-thus, no battleships. Any space dock can slap together raiders and corvettes, and the majority can build frigates and destroyers. Relatively few can build or service a capital ship, and few outside a Forgeworld or major fleet base can do the same for a battleship. Most civilized worlds will have the facilities to build escorts and repair cruisers, but few will have the capability to build one from scratch or do any real work on a battleship.

There are various dockyards listed in fluff but their full capabilities are not really discussed.  Kormoroshi (sp?) Dockyards seem to be able to produce bespoke custom cruisers from the keel up, so....

You can assume that the Forge Worlds of the Lathes will produce imperial warships. Yes, they have their odd grav-currents, but they are still mechanicus forgeworlds and suitably impressive dockyards can be assumed.

Building escorts and transports isn't too hard, so it wouldn't surprise me to see most systems have the indigenous ability to build frigates.

Shipbuilding-related quotes:

Carrack-class transport:

Quote

The Carrack class is a product of the shipyards that sit on the adjoining edges of the Calixis and Ixianid Sectors

Cobra-Class destroyer:

Quote

Although no ship could be said to be mass-produced in the Imperium, the Cobra is one of the simplest to build, with a well-equipped shipyard able to construct one in only several years.

Iconoclast-Class raider:

Quote

In the wild regions of space near the Calixis Sector, many Iconoclasts are produced in shadow ports and shipyards that lurk beyond the bounds of the Imperium, assembled by tech-heretics and shipwright clans who owe no fealty to Holy Terra.

Claymore-class corvette:

Quote

more than fifty of these stopgap vessels were constructed during the Angevin Crusade to cover losses in the Sword-class frigate squadrons, churned out by Adeptus Mechanicus mobile shipyards and small civilian concerns orbiting stronghold worlds like Sinophia.

Tempest-class frigate:

Quote

The Tempest is a specialised frigate produced in the Calixis and surrounding sectors.

Lathe-class light cruiser:

Quote

The design for the Lathe-class was uncovered in the deep data-vaults of Het in the Lathe system during the Angevin Crusade, and in the centuries since the crusade ended, the Lathe shipyards have diligently constructed multiple ships.

Secutor-class light cruiser:

Quote

The first Secutor monitor-cruiser was adapted from the existing design when the forge world learned that the existing light cruiser was insufficiently armed for heavy starship combat. Rather than spend the considerable resources to construct true cruisers, they developed the Secutor.

Ambition-class cruiser:

Quote

The Ambition is representative of such a type of ship. A handful of ships of this rare class have emerged intermittently from the orbital Kormisoshi Dockyards of the Calixis Sector over the past thousand years, each a phenomenally expensive purchase.

Dictator-class cruiser:

Quote

In the Calixis Sector, several Dictators have been constructed as new vessels, using this design.

Lunar-class cruiser:

Quote

Its (relatively) uncomplicated design dates back to the dawn of the Imperium, and it can be constructed at worlds normally unable to build a ship of the line.

Chalice-class battlecruiser:

Quote

It is unique to Battlefleet Calixis, as it was designed within the Sector. The theory seemed sound: a fast heavy cruiser, with light armour and powerful weapons that could outrun and outmanoeuvre anything it could not immediately destroy.

Overlord-class battlecruiser:

Quote

The design is an ancient but successful one, and new examples of the class are still commissioned every decade or so.
