Discussion about "Intensity"

Really looking forward to this on Poe.  BB-8 + Primed Thrusters will generate Focus + Evade every turn while unstressed (assuming a green), and will still get you Poe's focus every turn (with a boost too if you want.  Or using a boost if you don't want to use a green.) when you get stressed (assuming you don't just get hammered with it).

Intensity plus Comm Relay is five points, but gives any ship that can use it a rough equivalent to a regenerating Shield Upgrade. They just need to be able to boost or barrel roll in order to get the ability to reduce the damage from an attack by one, and can hold onto it until they need it. Then, after spending it, another boost or barrel roll will give them a fresh token as long as they're not exhausted. That's not hard to arrange on an initial joust.

yes this list is a great way to run Corran for cheap.  Fcs is redundent though.  But, I don't know what to replace FCS with.  I wish there were a mod that allowed you to switch your tech slot for systems and vice versa.

 The more I look at Intensity, the more interesting interactions I find. It was unsurprisingly excellent on Poe when I tested it out last night.

Oh god. Engine Upgrade Vader. Never thought about that.

He normally wants attack mods but yeah... This could work on a few of the Advanced pilots too.

 

Valen Rudor - Title, Intensity, Autothrusters

Target Lock as your action get a free Evade. Someone shoots at you and you can then boost/roll and get another free Evade Or Focus if you still have the first one (and can then reset it etc). 

If you take further attacks you can then add a Focus to reset it if you've generated evades etc.

Intensity on Vader is going to be very strong, but at the moment there's a very short list of others for whom that's true IMO: ships which can get multiple focus/evade tokens in a round without spending their action to do so, and ships which can reliably hold on to tokens for entire rounds or longer without being forced to give them up, and especially ships without native access to the Evade action; in both cases, so that they can have multiple tokens at a time and have a much higher chance than usual of keeping at least one to flip with.  To wit, this short list of ships:

T70s - Poe and Snap especially, but any of them with Comm Relay.

Astromech slot ships with R7-T1 - a slightly different case, but this enables you to get focus/TL in one action, which is pretty huge, and potentially still allows you to get an additional token if you use Experimental Interface as well, but that's 8(!) points to do 4 actions a round.  Might still be worth it.

/sfs - again, with Comm Relay.

Vader - lets him reposition and still get his tokens, meaning he can defense or offense stack and still reposition, or critically, can boost/br, TL and focus in the same round which will make a huge difference to how his engagement rounds work.

Moldy Crow: slow roll to build up a stock of tokens, then use BR and TLT to to stuff.  Probably not a high priority though.

Rey crew: bank tokens, spend them to flip the card.

Jyn crew: get bigger token stacks, potentially combine with EI to get them as well as a repositioning action, though I think that combo's only open to the Attack Shuttle as the only Rebel ship with a native repositioning action AND crew AND EPT.

Op Spec: give out focus tokens late in the round.

Fleet Officer/Hux: supply extra tokens to flip Intensity with.

 

It's also notable that it's basically completely useless to Scum right now - there are approximately 0 cases where Mindlink isn't just light years better.

How are you planning to use Intensity and still get 4LOM's ability off?  Or is it that you're planning on basically alternating reds and greens and getting Intensity flipped back from the tech when you do reds?

Add Advanced Sensors and this is probably good shout though.

As far abs I'm concerned, this is the Guri fix we've been waiting for. With FCS and her ability she can get TL, focus, BR, evade every turn.When considering only Guri, this is much better than Mindlink. Mindlink Guri lists use her ability to get everyone else a focus, but that doesn't actually help Guri. This will give her focus evade and 3 greens plus your mod of choice. At first I thought ATs, but PRS essentially makes her a regenerating Defender and and you could also go Stealth Device plus Scavenger Crane to get a repeating 4 dice base. None of those sound easy to chew through.

And yet she's still a minimum of two points more than Fenn.

It's really, really good for her but it doesn't stop her being 4 to 6 points too expensive.

Maybe, I'm not sure. I feel like intensity could be undercosted on Guri. And she'll play a different role, as a heavy fighter like a Defender or T-70, as opposed to Fenn.

Also, I expect a nerf is coming for Mindlink. Fenn may not be the same in a few months.

But Starvipers are always been too costly, so that will just close the gap bit more.

Yes and no. Guri has always been the closest to being competitive. Getting a "free" evade is powerful, there's a reason no 3 dice interceptors have automatically gotten the evade action since, well, the Interceptor.

Placed in the right list, she could find a place. Something that pulls attention from her like a Palob or a tugboat. Needs testing to be sure.

Even with an evade action, Guri would still be hugely overpriced, and Intensity gives her access to evade tokens, which is great, but it will often only be able to do so once per round, and relies on her being able to boost or barrel roll without losing her shot/getting into a bad position to get it.

It's going to be good on her, but it's not decreasing her price by 4 to 6 points.
