crane story is up

Is Shizue Satsume's biological daughter this time around? In the Old Legend she was adopted because Satsume's wife had always wished for a daughter, but seeing as she got one this time...

"I have heard the tale differently."

Its a poor story IMO.  It lacked creativity as its basically Hoturi's story replacing the man with Hotaru.  The only thing different is Hoturi wouldn't have gotten cut by the bandit because he was the best duelist in the Empire.

Toshimoko would take exception to that, and Dairu as well

The phrasing of the Yoritomo name-drop makes it seem like the Mantis do not actually exist yet.  The Crane Champion would know very well who the daimyo of a minor clan is.  Might just be poor wording, though.

Or could have been intentional, to show her disdain for a criminal.

Yoritomo leading pirates! MANTIS CONFIRMED!

I read it as the exact opposite, that Yoritomo is just a pirate leader, but not a leader of a minor clan. So, the Mantis or whatever it might be gettin called one day in thsi game, is not yet even formed.

Well they do talk about a heretical movement among the Dragon, they could have this lead to perhaps my favorite aspect of the Spider, the Spider Monks. At the very least this could help lead to some sort of reformation of a Spider clan that could potentially fit better in the Empire than the previous version did, no matter how much I loved their employment of Shourido.

Kokujin is pretty heretical.

Except that's exactly how he started in the original card game as well

Uh no. He was always the daimyo of the Mantis minor clan.

As I recall, he didn't have a card for a long time, and was mentioned as a pirate?  But that was like 2 decades ago, so I might not be remembering correctly

He was always champion of the minor clan Mantis. Then formed the alliance and the members of the alliance went from minor clans to families in the Mantis Great Clan.

Hotaru's art at least depicts her as having the beauty and elegance one would expect from a Crane Champion. And we get to see she's martially skilled and not just politically as some speculated.

On her relationship with Kachiko I'll say it seemed to me like excitement at seeing one's paramour for the first time in a long time. And Hotaru's savvy enough to realize that no matter how much she might like Kachiko on a personal level she's still a Scorpion and a threat to her Clan's interests.

As a Crab I appreciate her concern for our situation even if she can't offer any assistance. You'd expect most Crane to consider it 'our' problem.

They should totally remake It Was a Cat.

Not gonna lie: was rooting for that Ronin to win. In a world where commoners are treated like dirt, he was looking out for the little guy. He was the real hero of this story. RIP Rando the Ronin: May 17, 2017-May 17, 2017. You are lost, but not forgotten.

This sounds dangerously like the Kolat conspiracy, sir. Are we to assume you an enemy of the empire?

Ronin was short sighted. Robbed rice might save his tiny village, rice properly redistributed using imperial bureaucracy will save 1000 generations of tiny villages.

Well, considering it'd take 1000 generations for the bureaucracy to accomplish anything with it in the first place...
