TBot 589 Posted May 8, 2017 Has anyone ever played x-wing for keeps? Back 25 years ago when I used to play POGS, if you lost the game you lost your POGS to your opponent. Has anyone played a high adrenaline game where if they lost the game they had to give their opponent their list?
Rinzler in a Tie 1,891 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) Hahaha competitive lists are worth well over 100 USD. Eff that. But no - never played that format. Edited May 8, 2017 by Rinzler in a Tie 1 Stoneface reacted to this
nigeltastic 3,808 Posted May 8, 2017 There's a reason magic the gathering no longer uses cards with the 'ante' key word. Most people really don't like spending time and money building a cool collection to lose possession of it. 2 Jetfire and Darth Meanie reacted to this
wurms 5,044 Posted May 8, 2017 I wouldn't do it for an entire list because...dice. Maybe for some acrylics or alt art cards. If Im gonna put $100 or more on the line rolling dice, Im going to the craps table. 3 Stoneface, Darth Onyx and nitrobenz reacted to this

If I lose, you get my $50 Shivan Dragon. If you lose, I get your 0.50c Llanowar Elf. OTOH, we'd probably see a lot more Khirazx fighters on the table. Also, I'm not sure why this thread exists. . .Worlds has proven the XWM is cut-throat enough. Fuzzywookie 2,145 Posted May 8, 2017 I'd play with all tie fighters only. ? 1 Stoneface reacted to this
SabineKey 6,238 Posted May 8, 2017 Would also kill the use of custom painted ships, which is part of the fun of the game for me (both flying with and against them). 1 FlyingToaster reacted to this
Caboose2900 171 Posted May 8, 2017 What if instead, each player has one of each ship expansion in the game, and as you play games, whatever ships you lose you can't use anymore? Would be a cool format for a league. 1 TBot reacted to this
Jetfire 743 Posted May 8, 2017 Rich people format: All ships destroyed in combat must be destroyed in a fire immediately. Custom painted ships only. Ships that fly off the board retreat to fly another day. 3 Herowannabe, TBot and Antipodean Ork reacted to this

thatdave 287 Posted May 8, 2017 I've heard tale of X-wing cash games, both winner take all and 1/2/3 splitting the entry fee pot.... 1 TBot reacted to this
AllWingsStandyingBy 4,570 Posted May 8, 2017 People did it with POGS because POGS were #^&@-ing worthless.

People liked it though because of the thrill of winning others stuff. They were cheap and worthless. However, they were expensive as **** to kids who had to save up their allowance to buy them. TBot 589 Posted May 8, 2017 The scariest moment I've had in x-wing is almost losing your pilot in HOTAC. It creates some exciting adrenaline filled moments. That is what made me think of posting the thread. Games could be more exciting if something more was on the line. I was just curious if anyone had done anything to up the ante. Marinealver 8,068 Posted May 8, 2017 (edited) Hardcore Mode Every time one of your ships gets destroyed you crush the model, and tear up the pilot and upgrade cards attached to it. Also if there's a unique pilot you put it on a list never to be played again! Optional Armistice Module for Hardcore Mode Defeated player must also surrender his collection and playmat as war restitution Edited May 8, 2017 by Marinealver 1 Darth Meanie reacted to this
thatdave 287 Posted May 8, 2017 At the OFCC (Ordo Fanaticus Club Challenge), an event put on by a wargaming club in the Portland area, there would occasionally be 'BashHammer' challenges. This would entail a game of Warhammer wherein each player put a model (nicely hand painted, often expensive or limited edition) up as a bet with the winner getting to smash (bash) the loser's model with a large wooden mallet. Not too many takers, but when there were it was awesome! One of the early editions: 1 Ghostrider58 reacted to this
