Good point.  Maybe twice per conflict?  At that point it's basically a more expensive Banzai! that has the advantage of being reusable (costs 2 Honor, +4 Mil, -2 Pol that you probably won't care about).  Thematically I was trying to show drunken boxing (from the 2e book Way of the Open Hand) as an effective but low-brow fighting style and I think it does that but I still want something that makes sense.  And I like the idea of burning through one's Honor to win Military conflicts.  I'll edit.

Glad you like the flavor text.  It's a half-remembered quote form Jackie Chan's Legend of Drunken Master (couldn't find the exact quote online).

Yeah, the idea of converting honor into power is pretty fitting. Twice per round seems good, or maybe make the second ability unlimited, but the first ability once per conflict or something, so you can store it up over time.

Edit: Or, bow him if his political skill goes below 0. That puts a cap on it, but allows you to bypass it by giving him Fans and stuff, so he can at least keep up appearances :P

Change of Plans (Unicorn)

Reaction: After an opponent passes an action during a conflict, choose a friendly character - either move that character to the conflict or move that character home.

 

Wanted a safe way to over-commit. This way, once an opponent passes, you can safely send one of your characters back home and then pass your action. Might be better to drop one of the two options and add a card draw to it, though.

CORRUPTION TIME!!

Thought about doing something related to the Dark Kami, without it being “Shadowlands Horde! Akuma no Oni! Dark Moto! Zombies, and ogres, and goblins!”, and instead focus on the more insidious nature of the Taint as a corruption power.

New mechanic:

Tainted (creatures with the Tainted trait cannot be honored or dishonored, and their glory value become 0 and cannot be modified)

Skinwearer

Creature. Tainted. 

Reaction: After entering play, choose a 2 cost character controlled by your opponent - The skinwearer gain the printed skill values and abilities of the chosen character. 

 

Elusive Maho-Tsukai

2 Cost

1/3/0

Courtier. Tainted. 

Action: During a POL conflict in which this character is participating, choose another participating character - that character becomes Tainted

 

Wearer of the Taint

0 cost Attachment

Attached character becomes Tainted 

(It was an event initially, but will need more tokens to mark Tainted creatures, so changed it to an attachment instead)

 

Cursed by the Kansen

0 cost Event.

Action: Choose a Tainted character controlled by your opponent, and pay Fate equal to its cost - take control of that character. At the end of the conflict phase, discard that character.

(Maybe a little OP? Should be limited to one conflict only? Or can only be played during Dynasty?)

 

Dark Ritual

2 Cost event

Action: During a conflict, sacrifice one or more Tainted creatures, and choose a participating character with cost equal or less than the combined cost of the sacrificed creatures - Discard that character. 

 

Blood Magic

0 Cost event. 

Action: During a conflict, choose a Tainted participating character - that character gets +2/+2 until the end of the conflict. You can spend 1 fate from this character to resolve this ability twice.

 

Brainwashed Cultist

0 cost attachment. Follower.

+1/+1

Attach to Tainted character you control.

Action: During a conflict - move attached character to or from the conflict. Then, sacrifice this attachment.

 

Loyal Cultist

1 cost attachment. Follower.

+0/+2

Attach to Tainted character you control.

Interrupt: When attached character  leaves play - move this attachment to another Tainted character you control (Limit 1 per game)

(Maybe doing it 2 per game?)

 

Raised Corpse

2 cost Conflict character.

Zombie. Tainted. Creature

Reaction: After a Tainted character you control leaves play - put this character into play from your hand.

 

Giving it a Name

2 cost event. Spell.

You must control a Tainted Shugenja to play this card.

Action: During a conflict, bow a Tainted character you control - search for an Oni character in your deck. Put it into play in the conflict. At the end of the conflict, discard both characters. 

(Not sure at all about this one, I don’t want it to be just another Charge!, but searching the deck seems powerful, so I tried to put a few restrictions and costs)

 

That’s all for now. If somebody want to expand following this same concept, or think of another, better way to represent a Tainted card, I’ll gladly hear it all.

Unicorn Stronghold

Moto Something or Other. Gaijin Stuff.

9 starting honor, 7 fate, 12 influence

Action: During a Mil conflict bow this stronghold and pay 1 fate. Put a cavalry character in your province or discard into play in the conflict. After the conflict ends remove that character and all copies of that character in your discard pile from the game.

That is what I want to see.

Not that Phoenix needs another stronghold, but:

(+0 strength) Elemental Shrine Stronghold (Phoenix Clan)

Action: During a conflict, bow this stronghold - exchange the contested ring with an unclaimed ring of your choice.

11 Honor, +6 Fate, 10 influence.

 

Not sure how I feel about it. Going first will be very painful with this, only 6 starting fate and your opponent gets first choice of rings with fate on turn 2, but after the game gets going, you should be able to make up the lower fate generation by attacking multiple rings, and ideally denying your opponent that fate as well. Not to mention the ability's pretty solid on its own, and Phoenix can do more shenanigans with it than anyone else right now. I'd at least give it a shot myself.

Hi all, Hopefully we all see the best dragon around soon but until then this is some ideas for cards in that theme.

 

P'an Ku, The Mad Dragon (No not Kokujin, that's an entirely different "Mad Dragon" and a wannabe at that.)

6 cost Dynasty character unaligned

Dragon, Mythic, Calvary, Winning Smile

Interrupt: When P'an Ku enters play - move all fate from each character onto him.

Action: Give a fate on P'an Ku to your opponent - P'an Ku gains a bonus to his skills equal to the highest current skill among all characters until end of phase.

Killed by Onnotangu, the Mad Dragon doesn't remember he's supposed to be dead.

 

Hidekazu, Disciple of P'an Ku

2 cost Dynasty character unaligned

Shugenja

1/1/2

Reaction: After P'an Ku, The Mad Dragon enters play - Put a fate on Hidekazu.

Interrupt: When honor dials are revealed change your bid to Hidekazu's current Mil skill. If this ability would set the number to an illegal choice it sets it to the closest legal choice.

"The other gods are too rigid! They do not understand! All is nothing and nothing is all!"

 

Moto Chiang

4 cost dynasty character Unicorn

Moto Chiang cannot have fate moved from him.

Action: Shuffle Moto Chiang into your dynasty deck - Gain one fate and set all participating characters at this conflict Military and Political skills to 4/1 until  end of conflict.

Most would not notice Moto Chiang but P'an Ku is not most.

 

Toru

Reaction: After an opponent passes an action during a conflict - Toru gains plus one military until end of conflict. (Twice per conflict)

Invoke Madness

Action: If you have a shugenja - Draw two cards. Each opponent draws one card and may spend one fate to draw an additional card.

 

Freedom From Self

0 cost event Unaligned

Action: Target Bushi, Shugenja, or Courtier loses those traits and has one less glory until end of turn. This can give negative glory because why not?

 

Eye of P'an Ku

1 cost kiho event Dragon

Action: Your target monk gains a bonus to Military or Political skill equal to the base skill of target character.

 

Egg of P'an Ku

3 cost attachment unaligned

Action: Target a character and put this card into play as a copy of that character. If this card would be discarded while it is a copy of a character, remove it from the game instead.
