In the L5R universe there are a lot of strong female characters Hida O Ushi, Bayushi Kachiko, Matsu Tsuko the list goes on. So why change the sex of Doji Hutori, he is one of my favourite characters and one of the reasons I got so interested in the Crane Clan. I was so excited to hear they had reset the story line, but VERY upset they changed this pivotal character. I cannot see the reason for doing this, totally gutted.

That's really sad. I appreciate how you shared your pain without getting belligerent.

Yeah it's so sad your champ turned out like that... It's almost as bad as your entire faction getting cut from the game!

I heard Rumors that the next expansion has a card named Daigotsa...

Something I didn't notice before someone pointed it out to me is that now the Champions all match gender with the Kami of their clans.

The Yasuki became a Crane family during the Gold arc when Daidoji Hachi was unexpectedly found to be the heir to the family. Before that it was firmly Crab (have defected long ago from the Crane).

Not so unexpected when you have Naseru cooking the books to keep the two Clans in conflict. The guy didn't even have the decency to live long enough to resolve it or have someone make a declaration.

In Rokugan, court is supposed to be a battlefield of it's own. That never really felt true in the CCG, and it totally feels true with these new Conflict mechanics.
So count me definitely in favor of the change!

(To those making the, "it's just the same thing as military conflicts!" ... Well, this is a fantasy-based game. You're expected to have to use your imagination a bit, ya know? ;) )

I have not yet made up my mind, since I have not yet the whole picture of how possible it might be to get a honour victory without going on attacks, or how pssible it will be to stay passive while slowly dishonouring the oppinent. But if I have to do these political attacks, then I really hope they will still feel differently enough from military attacks, and that those two appraochs are not just mirrors of each other, but have a different flavour to them.

I'm totally happy that I don't have to watch my opponent masturbate while I'm trying to play a game with them. :P

I play Dragon and Scorpion and I'm looking forward to seeing how Scorpion will do in this game.

Given what we've seen so far, I'm assuming Dragon (At least to start) will be fairly straight forward, voltron deck.

But the new honor betting system will add a nice layer of stragety to the dishonor game, do I bet high to find the cards I need, or low to rob my opponent of their honor? I like how dishonoring personalities is a form of control. I like that just because I want to dishonor someone out of the game that military option is closed to me, it would seem like I will have to include some Samurai to defend with (and some Ninja the conflict deck?) and attacking to trigger Ring of Air, Earth, Fire or Void (given the situation) would be something to keep in mind - no more playing by myself for 10 minutes while my opponent checks his texts. Switch decks will be the norm/effective.

I agree with this. Court was described as a battlefield. It makes more sense to me this way. War is war, whether in the field, or in Court.

This also, in my opinion allow for a player to build switchy decks, that can wage war effectively in either arena

Oh and duels sound interesting too.

Hoping a Crane Dueling deck can be built.

Note that conflicts don't have (but can) to be armies marching at each other. "Story" being told on the board doesn't have to include warfare at all. Which is very cool, as it broadens the imaginative space tenfolds (and doesn't force us into looking for constant pretexts why clans are constantly at war). Your political conflict might be a debate, a scandal, or a poetry tournament.

I sort of wish there was a neutral providence that represented the capital or Imperial Court to really hammer home the idea. Maybe the fight over the Imperial Favor will represent that?

I hope I'll be able to do my Crane pure-Samurai honor deck (personnalities and followers samurai, elite only!). I had the congratulations of Toturi's players in tournaments, as I was showing honorable Doji could get out the court and handle a katana in melee, victoriously dying (ah my badass Kuwanan!).

Nope, I'm not fond of Daidoji warfare, even they are usefull for the safety of the clan. If they fail, there is still the Doji honor guard. What? Who's laughing? lol
