And thank you for your coherent reply. It gets difficult to speak openly about issues related with game designs when you are surrounded by yes-men that point you that you still don't know nothing about the game but are hasty enough to tell this is the best thing ever with the exactly same knowledge base. :D

*Sigh*

Come on, neighbor. Just because someone is willing to demonstrate curiosity and optimism towards a game doesn't mean that they're a "yes-man". I understand your concerns and I've tried to address them; let's agree to disagree and see how much fun the game is when it's actually available to play!

Because if enough people are excited about the game, that means he may be wrong in saying it's the worst ****** game ever? And since  he's the most experienced xCG player ever with over 157 years playing all of them, he's so superior that he can't be wrong?

Again, no reason to get personal. He disagrees, and he's entitled to disagree. He's seeing some things in the game design that are concerning for him, and the best way to allay concerns is through civil conversation, not jumping all over him. Everybody take a breath - we can disagree as a community without trashing people.

So, let's broach a topic that has absolutely no disagreement whatsoever... what's everybody think about the new Fate system?

From what little we've seen, I'm thinking it's an interesting mechanic - and really good catch by Ryric yesterday regarding some of the nuance of it - and I think it'll lead to some great in-game decision-making! Thoughts?

Sure, and nobody would have got personal if he hadn't both rude and arrogant in most of his posts. It's possible to discuss concerns and to disagree on things without shitting on your interlocutors. But when he has been doing the opposite for 2 days, he can't expect people to stay nice to him.

Now, on my end, I'll resolve the problem easily as this forum has a nice fonctionality known as "Ignore List".

I think it is a great system. It stops players from turtling in the previous game, it also gives your opponent the opportunity to plan their game by seeing who they are facing and for how long unless they can do something about it. It leads to deeper more strategic gameplay. This can lead to board wipes mid game for resets and creates hard choices for the player. Do they keep their fate or burn it for other turns. Should I drop all my fate on 1 big guy and will that one guy be enough to handle his 4? If I do burn all my fate, will I have enough to do tactics in the conflicts? What can my opponent ambush in to halt my plans?

I personally love it.

I thought I saw something about Unique characters tending to stick around longer.  Is this just because people will naturally tend to spend more Fate on them, or will there be some mechanic that allows characters who are Unique (or possibly have some other trait) to start with some Fate on them?  Either way, I agree that it sounds like it'll lead to some interesting tactical choices in-game!

There was some concern that the game was weighted towards weenie play on account of the fact that your investment goes away.  The >10% resource bonus for being first to pass is a bit of a cookie for the large unit style of play.

It's that kind of decision-making that can take a simple mechanic to a very deep level of complexity. I'm planning on viewing my first few games as a playtest of sorts, just seeing which style of fate usage makes the most sense for my play style.

Most likely because they are more expensive, thus stick around longer. Though I'm sure there will be some unique ways to play around with it.

You might be under an apprehension here.  When you buy a Character, their base Fate cost is just spent.  Only the additional Fate you spend over and above their normal cost is placed on their card.

That jumped out to me as well - from the preview cards, it really looked like "Lion Lightning" was back. The resource bonus was not something I knew about - was that on the AMA? Or did I just not read the release thoroughly enough?

It was in the AMA:  the first person to pass in the Dynasty phase gets a Fate.

That was the thing Ryric pointed out yesterday - the amount of fate spent on a character doesn't translate into "turns spent in play". You have to spend extra fate for that.

Hm. A little layer of extra complexity. And a little gamble. Classic carrot-and-stick design. Will you be passing, risking the end of the phase, or stick to your plan and turn down an extra Fate? Reminds me of Courtesy, a little.

I'm not sure weenie will be the default. If games are 3-6 rounds, as claimed elsewhere,  even someone with only 2 fate counters will be around half the game or more.

I am just using the logic that, if you drop 4-5 fate on a character, you want more than 1 turn out of them. If you drop that amount of fate for 1 round of board presence, you are drastically shorting yourself of value.

Again, expense has nothing to do with duration. duration is based off extra fate you spend, not their base cost.

I think things will get very interesting near end game for fate tokens - say you're ready to attack your opponent's stronghold, so you think the game will be over this turn. No reason to put a bunch of extra tokens on your peeps. But then your foe pulls a miracle and stops your attack - well now your whole army wanders off at the end of the turn. But of instead you put a couple extra insurance fate on some guys, that's less you can spend to actually win the fight.

But again, depending on board-state, that might be exactly what you want to do! This is why this mechanic seems so neat to me. :)

That's a good point. I wonder if there's going to be a counter-balance for players who want to play weenie rush. Like, what's going to be this game's Gohei?

Not sure how I missed that. But, I am guessing that there will be a keyword for the unique characters that let them start with Fate on them. That seems like a logical position.
