The 3 Core Set thing again. I mean, really? I guess if it ain't broke...

Ugh, let's head this off now.

They create it this way so that those that want to dip into the game can at a reasonable price, some never go past buying one core set and just use it like a board game. They prefer card variety over quantity. This was completely expected and you do not I repeat DO NOT need a playset to play any card game ever.

I don't mind. That probably means each core has 1 of several useful neutral cards. Look at the pluses known so far though - 2 decks, provinces, honor, dishonour, military, good reset point, artwork. Looking forward to more info as time passes...

I think that's a revisited Togashi Yokuni piece, rather than re-used.

I wonder if they'll do the companion piece of Kachiko...

And to be fair, if you have friends, depending on exactly what they do, you can often get by with 2 core sets, and borrow that one card if you need it.  The reason you needed it in ANR was to get that 3rd console for certain decks.  And that is only if that console was absolutely necessary.  A lot of decks you could get by with 2.

I completely understand the price point argument but I really wished they would release a "Deluxe Edition" for those who wish to go whole hog in so that it is less than buying 3 core sets, even by a slight bit. You should get a slight discount for less packaging and less cardboard token pieces.

You can get by with 2 cores in most of these games, yes. There is always one card or two, or three, that becomes a power foundation in tournaments, at least very early in an LCG.

I disagree on the completely expected, since a few weeks ago Steve Horvath said in a conference that two sets were needed (edit: source). Also, there are other solutions: one core set presenting all the base clans and eventual neutral cards, and "clan packs" providing +2 copies / each card in play, so that if you wanna go for a full playset of Crab you can actually buy what you need and not all the cards in the game. The LCG format is made with a clear aim in mind: that you're not allowed to pick a specific faction and go in-depth on that faction.

Beware that I'm not particularly complaining since I'd in any case buy cards for all the clans, but I can understand how people may want a different solution

No he did not. He said two to be competitive. Steve is very exact with his language. I am not the only one that thought so.

They won't, because both shelf space and SKU space are very limited things in game stores. FFG is already competing against itself as much as others for room on your FLGS's shelves; a separate print run that would not sell as well as the core set is not something they want to crowd space from other games they're offering.

So you won't buy a game you're interested in? What a fascinating way to get into games you say you want to play.

And it's not BS; it's their marketing model, it's been proven financially successful for them for over ten years now, and you do not need multiple core sets to play the game. Which is why the majority of their sales for their core LCGs are to people who do not buy any further product in the line -- which is, again, why they distribute it the way they do.

Of all the reasons not to play a game, that's pretty weak... You don't want to drop $90 bucks and get a complete set through pre-order that's fine. You can buy 1 copy, maybe find out if you even like the game at your LGS (local game store), then when you can scrape it together, drop another $40 to get a second copy if you do enjoy it... then in a few more weeks, after you have saved up all your allowance, you can get that third copy if you absolutely must be a completionist.

To say, "What? I need to buy more than 1 copy of a core set to be competitive? I'm not playing!" is kind of dumb. You don't even know how the game is played yet.

Gender swapped intentionally is the question... someone back at the office is either going, 'Oh ****, we have a typo and we meant he instead of she, and the image we assigned to the Crane Clan is a female! Now what do we do!' or they are saying, 'Yeah, buddy.'

What's your problem with buying multiple Core Sets? I don't hear people complaining about buying multiple TCG boxes...

I mean, I appreciate your vigilance as a forum policeman, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still diving into this thing, just a little dissapointed by the delivery method. Have a good one.
