CEOWolf 46 Posted April 19, 2017 Oh wow I love The King so an expansion focused on him will be awesome. Though the keep cards to yourself mechanic is awkward. I always played with showing cards to everybody (played it twice with other people) so this be a bit annoying. Also I mostly played by myself so these cards be a bit weird. I like Lola Hayes how interesting! An investigator who can switch to any class. Though how would that work deck wise? Have like 5 of every class in your deck..??? 2 VermillionDe and Punning Pundit reacted to this
VermillionDe 70 Posted April 19, 2017 I'm guessing an intelligent build with Lola wouldn't use all 5 classes, but would rather build an effective strategy with 2 or 3 classes that you wouldn't be able to do normally. Kind if like how effective seeker became with survivor cards (scavenge + disc of itzamna combo) when rex was introduced. I don't imagine shifting between all 5 would really be that useful unless there was a good reason.
mwmcintyre 271 Posted April 19, 2017 If you go through the image gallery you can see her deck requirements and restrictions. She can do any level neutral and up to level 3 of any of the classes, but she has to have at least 7 cards from each of 3 of the 5 classes. She also has a deck size of 35 and she gets two each of her signature ability and weakness cards. Add the random basic weakness and she has a starting deck of 40 as opposed to the 33 we've got with characters up until now.
CEOWolf 46 Posted April 19, 2017 She has to have 7 cards from 3 classes?? WOW that's like 55% of the deck
Meretrix 98 Posted April 19, 2017 She must be some actress, more like a shapeshifter.
mwmcintyre 271 Posted April 19, 2017 Method acting. Her weakness is "Crisis of Identity". And I figure the requirement for three classes is to force people to play her as intended by the design. Probably smart to not take cards from more than 3 classes given her restrictions on actually playing cards. 2 Jobu and Punning Pundit reacted to this
Jobu 720 Posted April 19, 2017 Building her deck will make my head hurt. The philosophy is going to be interesting. I do think non-neutral skill cards should probably be avoided. Plus if she is currently in the wrong role, using assets may cause you fits. Notice it says you can only play, commit or trigger abilities of your current role or neutrals. This makes non triggered assets more valuable for her. Leather Coat works no matter what role you are in (after it is played in Survivor mode) but baseball bat only works if you are in Survivor mode. Peter Sylvestre still gives you a +1 agility, but he doesn't recover Sanity at the end of your turn if you are not in Survivor. I hope she gets a token to track the current role. 1 Hannibal_pjv reacted to this

There's a player window during the skill test, so you could (theoretically) commit your Survivor skill card, switch to Rogue, then Double or Nothing it. It would be tricky timing, but I think that's going to define Lola across the board - you have two roles available each round, one of which will define one for next round, and managing that will be key to playing her successfully. I do think that passive effects are going to be a way to shine with her, but there are limits there too. Most of them take asset slots, so it's not like you can just pile up a dozen different assets to give her 7/7/7/7 base stats. 1 Jobu reacted to this

Nope, "7 cards each from 3 different classes", but you can choose which 3 classes out of the 5. Edited April 19, 2017 by mwmcintyre

Whoops, you're right - saw the player window and just assumed it was in the middle of the general "Do stuff". My bad.
Meretrix 98 Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) Is she the most versatile investigator yet? Edited April 19, 2017 by Meretrix
Buhallin 4,563 Posted April 19, 2017 23 minutes ago, Meretrix said: Is she the most versatile investigator yet? Theoretically, yes. In practice she's going to be very fiddly, and her weakness will have a good chance to destroy your board state.
Chronos96 15 Posted April 19, 2017 Oh, whoops my eyes deceived me. I was looking at the additional requirements and operating under the basis that someone would choose seven cards from each class as 7x5=35. It's nice that her requirements aren't as stringent as I thought.
Jobu 720 Posted April 19, 2017 Also just wanted to point out the obvious, Lola's Health + Sanity = 12. The core sets investigators and Marie = 14, while Dunwich ones = 15 (except for Pete who has 11, but that's mitigated by Duke who gives +5 to 16, sort of). 6 per isn't that bad especially compared to when some investigators have 5s in one stat, but I have to believe that having more in these stats is better. Daft Blazer 291 Posted April 21, 2017 Whilst I appreciate the design idea, I son't think I'll be playing her, far too fiddly!
Covered in Weasels 587 Posted April 21, 2017 She looks like a lot of fun to me, it will be an interesting deck-building challenge for sure.

About 90% of the investigators don't fit into the Cthulhu mythos. FFGs biggest blunder with this universe imo.

I think I will build Lola as a Guardian-Seeker-Survivor, with some splashes from the other 2. Go Guardian for fighting, Seeker for Investigating, and the Survivor cards for risk aversion. Add in Leo de Luca from Rogue, and maybe some Mystic cards.
