Just got this in the emails...

Quote

Dear Kal,

You are receiving this message because you recently placed a preorder for the Star Wars Destiny: Spirit of Rebellion gravity feed.   We have been informed that similar to the previous set there will be a supply shortage.

We attempted to order over 9,000 gravity feeds in total from several different sources and today we were informed that we are receiving less than 1,000.   The good news is that your preorder was in early enough that we will be able to fill your order from our initial allocation.  Right now the estimated release date for this product is May 4th.

As a result of these supply issues we will no longer be preselling anything (sealed product or singles) related to Star War Destiny for the foreseeable future.   We will be posting buy back prices for singles later today on our website.  Once you receive your product and open it consider us if you decide to sell your extras.

Please use our alert system to sign up for notifications when any Star Wars Destiny product comes back in stock.

We will attempt to post more information as it becomes available on the product page itself.

Thank You,
Customer Service Team
Miniature Market

It's hard to know what this actually means beyond what it literally says.

I know some outfits routinely order MUCH more product than they ever expect to receive (from FFG and others) because they know they always get less than they ask for. I don't know if MM does that in general or if that's happening here. It's also worth noting that they're not saying that they don't expect to get more content... so the most optimistic read of this could suggest that they'll get more SoR content later on even if they're not getting their 9K boxes.

I'd wager that MM specifically is being super up front about this given that they were regularly pooped on and accused of opening customer preorders after Awakenings came out.

Either way... not great. :/

We do know that it's coming in waves, which is good.  The first wave being 10%, however, is bad.  Especially since we know from the GAMA video that they've had SoR running at the printers since November, it's very hard to see how this isn't going to be more of the same.

Not sure where the 10% comes from. MM simply ordered some random number of boxes they wanted and are getting what they get. I would imagine most places getting more than 10% of the boxes they ordered. Also keep in mind FFG's new policy to support local game stores first and diverting their products away from big internet retailers. So MM not getting a insane number of boxes isn't surprising. SoR is being released in waves, so supplies will be sparse but hopefully consistent. Sadly this is necessary to minimize the effects price gougers and hoarders have on the market. If places like MM got what they wanted, it would be far too easy for them to suck all the supply dry. Sort of flooding the market with a bunch of unwanted product, this is a good way to handle it.

It is good to see MM finally figuring out accepting money for goods they have NO realistic expectation of ever fulfilling is a bad thing to do.

It is by and large "my dead horse" FFG have been in this cycle where they hype up a game six months in advance of release and can't ever seem to get it to their distributors in time to meet their deadlines. I watched an Armada Wave take almost 3 months on the ship, an average speed of some 6km/hour. Give Padro a paddle FFG he can easily go faster!!

Runewars Miniatures didn't meet it's dead line and X-Wingers have been waiting for a while for their new toys haven't they?

Many Pedros died to bring us this new wave.

Sometimes boats sink or get stranded at sea.

After what happened with Awakening, I am sure everyone is placing huge orders right now. So no one is going to get what they want.

Imperial Veterans took 8 MONTHS after it was announced to get to stores. Announced late 2015 and it was July/August of 2016 before we got it.

The problem I see is that it's the same pattern as before:  FFG makes some statement about the game, then silence.  Rumors filtered through distributors start to come out about supply issues, FFG stays silent.  Product starts to leak to the market, people can't get enough...or even some in many cases...and secondary market prices skyrocket.  Destiny survived this happening in Awakenings, but I don't think it's going to survive the same pattern through SoR.  FFG needs to get on top of this.  Some vague statements about spreading the distribution of SoR through time aren't enough.  Players are going to need some FFG-based assurance of when those waves, roughly, are going to be available, and what kind of size are they going to be.  Trust is in short supply with this community, and I think people are poised to move on to a game they can actually buy rather than wait for something that might come in, sometime, eventually.

I see I am going to have to reply to everyone of these posts bc people are so misinformed on how manufacturing(mfg) and logistics (log) work.

#1 SoR is not going to solve supply and demand issues. FFG stated that last month.

#2 SoR was in production 6+ months ago...before Awakenings even came out. How could FFG know to produce this much when Awakenings didnt even officially release yet?

#3 FFG opened up a 2nd mfg in China (yay creating jobs for less fortunate folks!) as a REACTIVE response to demand. This mfg #2 has been the ones producing the 2nd wave of Awakenings and extra SoR.

#4 Empire at War (set #3) has already been in production. They now know the demand, so theyre producing non stop EoW. Mfg #2 has prob just joined them, if not soon, on production. Thats TWO whole mfg facilities producing at full blast now.

#5 FFG said EoW and Core Set #1 will be the better gauges of production and supply/demand bc they now KNOW what to base off of.

#6 this set is coming in 4 waves. We dont know the size of each wave. SoR wave 1 and 2 could be just as large as Awakenings 1-5. That still leaves 2 additional waves of supply! Plus you dont know whats stuck on the boat still/in customs. MM could get that next 8k boxes in wave 2 - 4.

#7 i like the reply above that FFG is basically saying **** you large online retailers, we are supporting LGS first. Not that I dont/havent supported MM before (they have good prices).

#8 this game is awesome, stop complaining. Get what you can right now, play, and have fun!!

People keep saying that FFG "knows" the demand, and I agree they at least have an idea that they know it is higher than they produced, but how can they actually know the demand?   I mean, it sold out in a day in a lot of places.   I just don't think they can know if the demand is twice or ten times what they produced for Awakenings, so while I think that there will be more product out there, I'm not going to be surprised if they don't meet it.

I would say that they have a pretty solid grasp on what the demand is by listening and not speaking. I would wager that the whole time people were complaining on the forums, complaining to their lgs who then complained to their distributors. FFG sat back compiled all of the data that came in saw how much more each distributor wanted but couldn't get and worked out numbers from there.

I don't know the numbers and I have no inside into how FFG works but lets just say for the sake of argument that they produced 10 000 booster boxes throughout all the waves. Each day they sold out on arrival and each time they sold out the cries were heard. Now lets say there are only 10 distributors in the world #1- had a demand for 1500 boxes the stores it services #2- had a demand for 500 #3- 1000 #4- 200 #5- 100 #6- 0 #7- 2000 #8- 350 #9- 200 and then #10- Their biggest distributor that they deal with took the longest to compile their data and they came back with a whopping 15 000. So in total they were told that they could have sold approximately another 20 000 booster boxes if they were on shelves.

FFG takes those numbers adds what they shipped out then takes into account people walking in off of the streets to buy a pack here and there now their new number is 40 000 booster boxes. If all of the numbers were legit and that is how it went down  if they produced 40 000 boxes I think they would have a semi solid grasp on the demand. They may come up short but that would only be because of a lack on information that they could not take into account.

I know we are all a little sour that SoR is coming out in 2 weeks and that some of us may or may not get all of the product we wanted. But wouldn't you rather be waiting for an amazing game to get into your hands then hearing that due to massive complaints and a failure to meet gamer expectations they have decided to cancel the line. I know which side of the fence I would rather be on.

All this tells me is that they should stop producing / announcing products so far in advance that they can't meet the demand of the previous set.

And all of this "it was too early! They didn't know!" business? The stats were in by the time they pushed out the SoR pre-release kits and they still ****** that goat. There's no reason to apologize for their incompetence anymore, and regardless of whether they work out the Destiney issues or not this is my last dance with FFG.

You and I have differing opinions on them opening factories in China for a product they'll mostly sell in America and Europe.

I live in the former industrial heartland of Britain, theres a lot of unemployed people here who'd kill for a factory making dice and cards to open.

I'm sure America has plenty of similar places.

In these places they could shorten their logistic chain to their main customers.

Of course in these places they'd have to pay workers a fair wage and comply with more regulations. That might eat slightly into their precious profit.

Tl;dr: Blow your 'yay jobs' bollocks up your arse with the rest of your snivelling attempts to excuse FFGs continued failures.
