Advancing the act deck question, spoilers for 1st scenario

Recommended Posts

I just did a solo play through of the first scenario to get the game play down. I want to make sure I am doing it right.

Act card 2a says:  OBJECTIVE:  investigators as a group can spend clues in the hallway to advance the act.

Does that mean in order for the act to advance, someone has to be in the hallway?  Or if they are in different locations and have enough clues, will and spend them to advance, will it advance?

One other question,  if a asset card you have has a free trigger symbol on it and does not say "use only once per test" can you use it more that once per test?

Yep!

Quick point. It also says "at the end of the round". Usually you spend clues during your turn but it does not take an action. In this specific instance, all the investigators that have clues to contribute must be in the hallway and you don't spend the clues until the end of the round, right after the upkeep phase.

I, too, have some Act 1 questions. :D

So: I played 2 player with a buddy, while we tried to figure out the game. I had Wendy Adams, and she seemed... kinda useless? I'm sure I must have been doing something wrong. What's a good way to get use out of her stats?

Cards with "Ammo"- they cost supply to equip, and the "ammo cost" is just taken from the supply stack, put on the card, and 1 ammo is used each time the gun is fired?

Resources are different then ammo, charges, uses, or supply. You pay the resources to play the card, then take resource tokens from the supply and put them on the card as ammo, charges, or uses.  You spend an ammo / charge / use to use the card ability.

Wendy does not have great stats. She excels by using events like Lucky and Look What I Found, and items like baseball bat or fire axe, as well as her ability to get a second chance at a good chaos token.

In addition to things already mentioned, Wendy can also be extremely good at evading enemies, which can be more effective than it might appear at first.  If she is paired with someone good at attacking, like Roland, she can evade enemies, leaving them exhausted for the other characters.  This can be good if the enemy has retaliate, because they can't hit back if they are exhausted.  She also has access to rogue cards like Backstab and Sneak Attack that work well with her agility.  And when it comes down to a really important test, her ability to redraw the chaos token can really save the day.

I guess I don't understand where ammo comes from?

Also: how does she get a second chance at a chaos token?

Rules Reference page 21 - Uses (X "type")

Uses is a keyword ability. When a card bearing this keyword enters play, place a number of resource tokens equal to the value (X), from the token pool, on the card. The word following the value establishes and identifies the type of uses this card bears. The resource tokens placed on the card are considered uses of the established type, and are not considered resource tokens.

=Each card bearing this keyword also has an ability which references the type of use established by the keyword as a part of its cost. When such an ability spends a use, a token of that type must be removed from the card bearing the ability.

=Other cards may reference and interact with uses of a specified type, usually by adding uses of that type to a card, or using uses of that type for other purposes.

=A card cannot bear uses of a type other than that established by its own “Uses (X type)” keyword. (For example, a card with “Uses (4 ammo)” cannot gain charges.)

=Some cards with this keyword bear text that causes the card to be discarded if it has no uses remaining. If the card contains no such text, it remains in play even if out of uses.

So basically when you play these cards you take resource tokens from the token pool and put them on the card to be spent by their abilities.

Wendy's ability is - Reaction: When you reveal a chaos token, choose and discard 1 card from your hand: Cancel that chaos token and return it to the bag. Reveal a new chaos token. (Limit once per test/ability.)

This means if you draw the tentacle token (auto fail) you can, instead, discard 1 card from your hand and put that token back, and draw again.  This greatly reduces her failure rate due to bad token draw compared to other characters.
