N-1 Naboo Starfighter for X-Wing

Recommended Posts

FWIW, there are plenty of people who'd be happy to see them included.  The ship designs (and the majority of the design aesthetics in general) were by far and away the best things about the prequels, and I'd really like to see some of the prequel and clone wars ships appear in game.

The real difficulty I have with them, personally, is that they're often an awful lot smaller than the equivalent OT-era ships - the N1, the Jedi Starfighter, the Eta-2-actis, the Belbulab, all of them are really, really tiny.  Some of them are at armada-single-ship-squadron levels of tiny, almost.  It would be difficult, I think, to include them on that basis as standard small-base ships.  I'd like to see them inlcuded as 3-ship large base squadrons whose stats change as they take damage, perhaps - starting with low agi and high attack, and changing to high agi and low attack as ships from the squadron die.

For all the "Star Wars ships must be gritty and used and look like they might fall apart at any moment" people, have you ever actually seen Star Wars?

If you decided to finally watch those movies, note how the imperial ships, fighters and interiors look.

That's because they're a strict, orderly, totalitarian regime.

They're also actual models, not just graphics from a Playstation 2 game. This lends them a realistic feel.

Even in Cloud City, when Han has been frozen in carbonite, Boba Fett takes him away in his battered ship. This gives the universe a used, gritty history to it.

It's like the Colonial Marines in Aliens. Vasquez's armor says adios on it, Hicks's armor says born again on it, the smart gun is a combination of a German MG42, motorcycle parts, and a steady cam harness.

When the Marines first walk into the xenomorph hive, and they look up at the alien encrustation on the ceiling? That's a miniature. The APC they drive around in was an aircraft tow vehicle.

In STAR WARS, Han Solo's blaster is a broom handle Mauser pistol. The cantina song was meant to be as if aliens from the future dug up a Benny Goodman record.

The prequels have none of this. They're all a soulless, shiny Playstation 2 game and the ship designs reflect that.

From Wave 6 onwards I have wanted a grand total of 2 ships.

You can still play this game without buying 3 of everything in every new wave.

Just like you could still play Heroscape without buying any wave 11-13 WotC trash. :)

So what you are saying is that Imperial ships that don't follow what you (wrongly) think are the clearly defined Star Wars aesthetics are okay because they have a reason not to be used and look miserable?

Huh, it's almost like it applies equally to the prequels!

Even as you're advocating for prequel ships in the game, you're talking about how you don't like the ships because they don't look like they're from Star Wars.

If some of the people advocating for the inclusion of prequel ships are lukewarm for them, what does that say about how everyone else would view them?

I can hear it now. "FFG gives Imperials quad TLT with 3 green dice and now prequel ships? **** this game, I'm playing guild ball."

See, the fact that people who don't particularly like prequel ships are advocating for a few of them to make their way into X-Wing makes me more inclined to agree. Also, Rebels and Scum have had their fun with TLTs, give me a good reason why the Empire shouldn't have them. And don't use the "three green dice" reason. It only works if you don't know the fickle nature of green dice.

Agreed that the rebels have a trend of dirtier ships. It makes sense given they are on the run often, and can't always take time to scrub off the carbon scoring and will leave minor damage if it has no impact on performance.

But why is it that people are assuming a rebel N-1 wouldn't be the same way? When we got the ARC-170 we didn't get a pristine clone wars ship, we got one that looks heavily weathered. An N-1 would be the same. Who has the time to polish the chrome in the rebellion? To touch up the yellow paint? A rebel N-1 would end up just as worn and grimy as the ARC-170 we got, it just starts with a different scheme than grey and red.

Rusty N-1s  would be awesome.

Oh please stop with the prequel stereotypes. They had used ships, they had sets and props and miniatures galore. It wasn't some 90% cgifest like some would claim.

I take it then that you hated TFA and Rogue One for using cgi ships in all their dogfights?

While I agree that a worn looking N-1 could be awesome, the traditional shiny look is how they looked when Leia had to use one in her comic book.

To the people saying "If they add X i'll stop playing xwing" by all means, quit. Quit now for that matter, do you really think throwing a hissyfit and not playing a game anymore is going to impact anything?
You are the extreme minority if a single ship being added makes you quit purely because of where it came from, not what it does in the game.

Besides, we all know **** well you wont quit for that reason. Addictions are not easily cut cold turkey.

Fair enough. My complaint about the ships not being actual models was wrong. Haven't forced myself to see those movies in years.

They still don't look Star Wars, they look like goofy chrome stuff. It doesn't fit the 70's world war 2 retro future. Alien 3 is a sh*tty movie and it's just as practical as the 2 movies before it.

Yep, TFA and Rogue One used CGI. There is a difference between overuse of it and justified use of it.

Regardless, they're still still lifeless Playstation 2 cut scene movies with bad acting. They shouldn't be considered Star Wars. I hate sand, it's gritty and gets everywhere. Not like you, Padme. :)

True enough. Though I was working on the assumption that the set we get would not follow that comic's look exactly, working off the idea that some rebel cells used N-1's for example, the way they were in Legends.

Though from the description of the canon comic, the N-1's are described as 'abandoned' in the palace hanger, so I'd imagine they'd not have been pristine like in TPM and AotC, but instead actually would have been dusty and grimy, their chrome dull. Something a comic might not always show.

Personally I would like to see a generic pilot option, since stats wise I can't see the N-1 being very expensive. A generic would give the rebels another low points ship option, as an alternative to the Z95.

It's also quite frankly a very childish thing to do.

"Oh no, they've introduced a ship I dislike, I couldn't possibly play any of the other 54 ships that are in the game! Oh the humanity! My fandom cannot take this." No it has nothing to do with your fandom and everything to go with your massive ego that you think that you know better and that the game should cater only to you, or a specific sect of Star Wars fans. Prequel fans are Star Wars fans too, and they aren't asking for Eta-2s, Droid Starships etc. They are asking for one ship, the N-1 which has a basis within the OT thanks to recent canon material...

We're hardly saying the prequels were good movies. However OT fans have an ego and superiority complex that would dwarf both Death Stars. There were terrible parts of that movie, just like there were terrible parts of the OT. I seem to recall a kiss that looks very suspicious now we have full knowledge of the events of the films.  Boba going out like a punk maybe? Or perhaps the time when the Galactic Empire's secret shield facility was overrun by a small Rebel force and a bunch of 3 foot tall fuzzy bears?

Yes I know they are classic OT problems, but they exist too. The prequels...they're not as good as the OT films, I personally prefer the OT films, but don't think we should dismiss the overall plot of the prequels. The designs of the N-1's make sense! You can't say the Empire's ships make sense from a design perspective "cuz Empire, bro!" and then say the N-1 being Royal Starships doesn't make sense. Double standards much?

I think people (i4uding me) are mostly just opposed to  full on era mixing.  Right now we do have the ARC, the Y-wing, the Headhunter and the upcoming Scurrg (and technically the YT-1300 if you pay close attention to episode 3) as clone wars era ships.  But they are sold as refurbished and used by galactic civil war era pilots.  I think it would be a mistake to just start shoe horning characters from the clone wars (who didn't survive to justify their inclusion in the GCW era) into this game.

However, I would not be opposed to a separate clone wars era dog fighting game with streamlined mechanics and rules.  A veritable X-wing 2.0 if you will.  If they made it a similar but different experience from X-wing I think they could sell it like hot cakes.

I dont know. You can have a game where Agent Kallus, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren are facing off vs Luke in his t65, Rey and Fynn in the Falcon, and Captain Rex in a captured TIE.

Canon has gone out the airlock at that point. As has continuity.

I would, but these boards are very full of OT fans so I'm very much in the minority.

I was being diplomatic, I don't think they were fantastic, but I also don't think they were as horrible as others like to make out they are.

But they are asking for those ships though.

Now that FFG has made an exception for the ARC, the prequel apologists want the naboo starfighter and V-Wings and ETA-2's and Vulture Droid fighters.

They asked for the ARC and got it, now they're asking for the Naboo Starfighter and gushing about how cool vulture droids would be.

The only reason people like these movies and the ships is because Star Wars is in the title. Not because they're actual good movies in and of themselves.

As soon as this game starts filling with prequel ships, it will die.

If FFG made ships based on popular demand, the gunboat would have been in this game a LOOONG time ago already.  While there was demand for the ARC 170, it wasn't super huge by any means.

Also I have no idea how you think adding prequel ships would make the game die.  How would it make it die any more than adding ships from video games, comics, books, TV shows, and other movies like they have already??

Because no one hates Star Wars Rebels or the TIE Fighter games.

A lot of people hate the prequels.

And yet the game didn't implode when the ARC came out. The N-1 would also have something I think people really want: pilot Leia. Otherwise, she just has a crew card I have never seen played.

Also, there are a couple of people on here who have said that while they don't like the prequels, they are okay with a few ships from that era coming in for good reasons. Leia is a good reason.

I think one can dislike the prequels, but still like elements in it. I actually quite like the N-1, because my father got me a model of it that we built together when I was a child, and because I knew the cheat code to get it in Rogue Squadron for the N64. I have more than just the movie to tie me to that vessel.

And finally, if you think nobody hates Rebels, you need to get out more. I personally quite like it, but I've seen plenty of negative sentiment towards the "cartoon ships" around this forum.
