The Order 66 Podcast: Questions for the Devs - No Disintegrations

Recommended Posts

The Order 66 Podcast is excited to be welcoming Lead Developer Max Brook back to the show to discuss the release of what is possibly the most anticipated FFG sourcebook; No Disintegrations - A Career Book for Bounty Hunters!

As we have done before, the Order 66 Podcast is collecting questions from you, the listeners, for any queries you have about the book. Got a production question? A rules dispute about a talent? A piece of gear that doesn't make sense? Looking for insight on the Bounty Hunter's Signature Abilities, or want to ask about something in the Investigation section of the book?

We'll take questions until Wednesday night, April 5th. The show will be on April 9th at 8pm Central, and we'd love to have you join us in our chatroom, Echo Base, for the show!

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/d20radio

As usual, we are only taking and fielding questions about this book, No Disintegrations. We won't really have time to ask about any questions relating to other books, and of course Max can't answer questions about products that have not been announced yet.

Finally, please limit replies in this thread to questions for the Devs only. If you would like to discuss something brought up in this thread, please start a new thread elsewhere and discuss the matter there.

Thanks for your time and your questions!

I'll repeat my FB question and echo ferretfur's question:

Is the book ever coming out outside of the USA?
When the Asmodeus deal was announced it was one of the important points that worldwide distribution would be better amd more streamlined. It isn't. At all.
The book was release 7 or 8 weeks ago and only the USA has seen it on shelves.

The history of the Clawdite species in general - and the origin their shape-shifting abilities specifically - as presented in No Disintigrations is a pretty wild departure from previous, I guess now "Legends" information. Other species have had some subtle differences, but nothing quite so much like the total tear down and rebuild the Clawdites got.  What was the rationale for the complete do over on them?

We know that things being restricted is subjective and varies by circumstances in a game, but I can't seem to reconcile why the hunter's trophy armor is listed as restricted, but all of the micro-rockets are unrestricted. If taken at face value, it seems general law enforcement will take exception to somebody walking around with a jacket made of rancor leather, but doesn't mind it if they have pockets full of explosives.

Please could you ask when we'll be able to get hold of the book in Europe and why it has been delayed so badly without any kind of customer services notice.

As it is, we cant ask questions about the book as we cannot get hold of it!

Thanks.

This is probably beyond Max's ability to answer, but by golly the question comes up enough that an answer from the leads themselves is in order.

This question maybe more outside the lines, but....

No Disintegrations offers a bunch of new ships with quite a few of them being Mandalorian. In Friends Like These, there is a Mandalorian ship (Aka'jor Class shuttle) that is noted to be heavily modified. Unfortunately the unmodified ship is not in No Disintegration. If possible, where/how could one find the unmodified version of Aka'jor Class shuttle?

Bounty Hunters and custom armour go hand in hand, what was the reason behind not including the armour crafting rules? Page count? Limiting reprinting material?

I think their answer on this will be "we didnt want to repeat the material as we put it in the Force and Destiny supplement book"...at least that seems to be the party line on crafting rules. I guess we'll see when the Engineer book comes out.

Please go over the Marital Artist tree, such as Iron Body and Supreme Precision Strike.  Can these be used with brawl weapons, which augment unarmed combat? In the case of Iron Body, does it decrease the augmented Crit rating, or just the base?

I 2nd this.  In addition to the above, it would great if they clarified the RAI behind Brawl weapons and Unarmed themed talents.  What does it mean to be "unarmed"?  Is that the same as simply not actively holding a weapon?  Would a player with Stun Boots be considered "Unarmed".  How do unarmed talents interact with species specific Natural attacks like those of the Nikto?

On a similar note, it would be interesting to find out the reasoning behind the relative scarcity of brawling weapons?  Of all of the books, I was expecting the Martial Artist book to include at least a few new brawling weapon options, but we got nothing.  Was this an intentional decision or was it just a lack of design space/inspiration?

I REMEMBER: The armored drop suit says to treat the user as a silhouette 0 vehicle, which is kind of weird considering most of its wearer's will be silhouette 1. Error, and if not, what is the logic?

Made extra odd by the fact that jumpboots and jetpacks make the user Silhouette 1.

Regardless, I think the original question needs to be asked.

Despite others acting like those of us who only buy one line are somehow "acting entitled" to want rules that make sense for a particular career?  And those rules take up valuable space?  The fact is having to purchase an entire book on jedi to get much-needed info for a bounty hunter campaign is absolutely ridiculous ... and I have never seen page count become any kind of burden on anyone even if pages upon pages of fluff is offered up like candy by FFG.  So c'mon now.

(Not that I dislike fluff, but I think an image or two could be shrunken down by 25% and a few lines of extraneous info could be removed in order to provide some crunchy goodness.  Admit it to yourself:  FFG LOVES its fluff and artwork.  And just a wee bit of editing on their part could make page count a complete non-issue.)

I think it's well within bounds to ask why armor crafting rules - or stats on Mandalorians due to the vast number of Mandalorian tech in ND - was not included.

As for me?  I'll sound like an "entitled broken record," I'm sure...  Ha.  However, I wouldn't mind hearing the rationale on how any kind of 'beastmastery' or 'beastriding' info escaped making it into this particular book ... or any of the EotE career books for that matter!  We only have stats for two mounts in the entire line - both from the Corellian sector book.  So creating an American Western-inspired Clint Eastwood or Lee Van Cleef character riding across an alien desert in pursuit of his quarry proves difficult...

...unless, again, you purchase a book outside of the EotE line.  Or create something yourself.

What was the process to create the micro-rockets and related items? Little specific questions related to this:  What are some of the cool ideas related to the rockets that didn't make it into the book? Why does the dedicated pistol fire to medium range but the weapon attachment only to short? Is this something we will see more of in the future?

Why were none of the micro-rockets listed as (R)estricted?  Previously most burn and flechette (vicious) weapons were almost always restricted.  It seems odd that the Inferno Grenade or BR-219 Heavy Blaster Pistol are worth of restriction while micro-rockets with similar effects are perfectly legal.

To be open and up front I own KtP, I don't need those rules, it's just that I like to learn how the sausage is made. Armour seemed like a great 2 page piece to add to this book, to compliment the SM swath of custom gear. I also understand that the more they sell the longer the line will run for, so saving some things for adventure and setting books is fine.

Iron Body reduces your unarmed crit rating, brawl weapons can use their crit rating in place of your unarmed crit rating. So if you have iron body 2 and a normal unarmed crit of 5 and you use vibroknucklers you have a choice of (5-2) 3 , or the knucklers 2. Supreme precision strike specifies that you must be unarmed whereas the basic and improved weapons call that they can be used with melee or brawl weapons (basic version also lightsabers.

So iron body can be used with brawl weapons, but doesnt improve the crit of the brawl weapon, you just have a choice of your improved unarmed crit or the crit rating of the weapon.

Precision strike can be used with  lightsaber, brawl or melee weapons

improved Precision Strike can be used with brawl or melee weapons

Supreme Precision Strike has to be used unarmed.

The wording on unarmed parry is the one Im not 100% sure of, but I'd say yes it can be used with brawl weapons.

Remember this is to post questions we want the devs to answer (specifically the intent and design decisions behind them) There are a few other threads discussing the actual rules for them, and you'll find that people have many good arguments for both sides of many of those issues. Some i agree with what you have written, others i disagree. However this thread is not intended to debate those rules. It isn't a "how does this work?" thread it's a "What do you want us to ask our guest?" thread.

So while i am sure you have the best of intentions, trying to help fellow players, lets not have the thread devolve into RAW, RAI, and Table Rules debates. There are plenty of other threads for that =)

Just to clarify, I wasnt justifying it or saying not to ask the question. I think the armor crafting should have been in Special Modifications along with everything else, as that would have made sense.

Not to get too off topic but this is just a case of not being able to make all the people happy all the time.  Personally, I buy products from all three lines and appreciate that they minimize overlap.  I would rather have more pictures and fluff than duplicate content.  So the question becomes which customers do you try to make happy, the ones who buy only one line or the ones who buy everything?  I think from an economic sense at least, the answer is pretty obvious.

same here, i know how i think it should work, both RAW and RAI, and how my group has decided to handle it. But i would be really interested hear a dev's perspective on it, either as reinforcement, or a counterpoint that i might not have considered and i learn a new insight into the intent and design. Either way, it's win-win to hear it from a dev and get some perspective on it =) Though you trying to help other players is admirable, just a simple wrong place wrong time for that conversation lol. Been guilty of that myself once or twice
