Until then your ship is not not stressed, or not stressed, its STRESS STATUS UNKNOWN UNTIL CHECK FOR STRESS STEP, PHASE.

Stress is found if this is by your ship:

"LOOK, I FOUND STRESS!!!!"

SHIP STATUS = STRESSED

No need to wait for any step. If you see this by your ship, you are stressed.

Check pilot stress step is only to add or subtract stress tokens. Do a green move? remove a stress. Do a red move? Add a stress. If there is ever a stress token near your ship, NO MATTER WHAT PHASE OF THE ROUND, your ship status is "stressed"
