SoR Event is going to be very limited...

Looking like at least 2 shops in the Atlanta area got kits, word is a third and fourth did but haven't confirmed the time yet so they don't overlap.

I'm glad they aren't even using the allocation to try and distribute the product evenly geographically or distribute it based on sales numbers. It's instead just a random system where some areas get multiple kits for arbitrary reasons and other entire states get none.

Umm, you mean you didn't know? It's what gives the dice that clunky feel when they hit the table.

Or  that warm fuzzy feeling when you pick them up.

Got to admit, I'm not feeling great about this limited event. Granted, there's the strong argument that this game can't really be compared to the normal CCG because of the dice, but these events don't offer promo dice (yet). It's just cards. That's really all people are asking for. Something to excite people enough and organize a play experience. It's not like the three booster packs of SoR are a big draw, they don't even need to be part of the event - those that attend are surely going to buy packs if available. Hell, they'd probably buy packs of Awakenings at a SoR event.

I remeber back when I ran Heroclix events some ten years ago. WK used to just send boxes of Commons and Uncommons to the stores just to hand out to people. It was an expense that was something for them to consider, but it made sense for them to get new players in the door. Magic used to (or still does) give out half-decks to get people to learn how to play the game and they hand out local promos like candy. Again, Destiny is a totally different creature, but rather than spend money air-lifting promos to only a handful of stores, they would be better served printing out sheets of alt cards to hand out like crazy.

I'm still in it, but I feel like I'm starting to climb up the fence.

So just heard through the grapevine that the SoR event is going to be extremely limited, on the order of only about 10-15% of stores will have kits to run it.

What's up with the supply issues?!

Going to be a fun time...

Where have you heard this? There will be prereleases in four major cities in Denmark both days. (This means basically every hobby store will have one). I feel like thats adequate if not pretty great.

It feels like lately FFG can't do anything right in the eyes of these forums, just quit the game already if you're going to question and slander every single bit of news about it.

Yeah, FFG has a problem with those alt cards. Their US printing press doesn't put on the thin plastic coating the Chinese press does. This causes their to be two different card stock and in decks that get shuffled for a card game, that is generally a no no. Now with thick sleeves this doesn't result in them getting mark but still the US made cards feel cheap. Really makes the promocards not special. I wish they would just get the same press their factory uses so there is consistency there.  That or just be organized enough to have the cards made in china and ship them over here with more than enough time to get them out on time

We do have to keep in mind the game has only been out for 3 months now, so eventually they will catch up to demand but this whole, 90% of players won't have the SoR preview event is stupid. Best not to bother at all if that is all they can do.

I heard back from one store out of the three I've checked with today and they reported that the kits sold out within an hour. Take it with a grain of salt.

It would be a shame if an event designed to promote a new expansion that already has concerns with limited production, was itself, limited in production.

Seattle area? Which places are these?

This is the Awakenings preview event all over again, just with the reduction announced...sort of...earlier.  I missed that one because the store that was going to hold it on the day I had free didn't get their kit.  I have three stores in the area...I'm not sure if any of them are going to get a kit, and even if they do, will it be on a day I'm able to get away?  Will it be the only store in the area and have more than 36 people want to attend?

This is a nightmare.  It would have been better to not try and attempt something like this than to run into the very problems that have plagued the game since launch.   Players are looking for an indication that FFG has got a handle on this, not confirmation that the problems persist.

This.  This is an important thing.  When people were uncomfortable with last week's announcement, many of us said it came down to how well you trusted FFG to estimate demand and deliver to cover it.  This is a glaring announcement that they can't estimate demand, can't cover that demand, and honestly couldn't care less whether they do or not.

Pretty much this.

Really.

Did you guys actually think that if/when FFG gets a handle on this it was going to be by the SoR prerelease? My prediction has always been things will settle down by the next core set.

This shouldn't be a surprise. Pardon my interruption. Let the complaining continue.

I didn't expect the supply issue to be fixed, but I did hope that FFG would have learned....something.  Anything?  Those boxes going to the preview event could have supplemented the supply in May.  Now they are going to go to a very, very few, along with even more limited variant cards.  It's just feeding the same forces that have made this launch so bad, making it appear worse than it has to.

It probably won't be until the third release this year until production catches up, certainly by next year.  But I don't think the game will have a community left if they tank the SoR release.

Actually, they probably would have gone to less in May as they most likely would have been sold as boxes.

Also, if there was enough to make a dent in May there probably would be sufficient quantities to manage the prerelease. This is just speculation as we don't know what the quantities are.

Thats fine for a smaller country. But when in the US your talking about likely having to drive 2-4 HOURS to find one store with a kit thats stupidly low. Also is it just me or does it seem like the US is the one thatis having the largest issueswith getting Destiny product. Seems most US sellers where sold out for a month before the Canadian or Europian sellers started coming up short.

The store near me that I normally play at doesn't look like it will be able to get a kit. While a store an hour away got 2 kits and are doing one event each day. That makes it more frustrating that they dont even try and distribute them evenly

Perhaps the store that got two uses more than 1 distributor?

I know my store is trying to get more than 1, haven't heard yet what the outcome is.

While, another local store was told by one of his distributors that they only got 30 kits and his store wasn't on the list to get one, and his other distributor didn't get any...

No, I actually didn't expect them to have fixed it by SoR.  I'm honestly not sure I expect them to have it fixed ever - or if they do fix it, it will be because of people giving up on the game and lowering demand, rather than them getting a grip on the supply side.

I don't think anyone upset with this is actually surprised that there are shortages for the event - the point is that FFG is still going ahead with the event when there are shortages.  From a PR standpoint they should be doing everything they can to inspire confidence that they can handle what they've gotten themselves into.  Whether they could have fixed it by now is irrelevant - creating another event which actively highlights their failings with Destiny is dumb PR.  They would have been far better off quietly shelving the SoR prerelease event and pretending they never meant to do one in the first place.

It's not "GASP!  How could this have happened??"  It's "Really, FFG?  Again?"

Actually I think a lot of people expected a prerelease event like this to be limited in nature.

We're talking about product they either shipped ahead of time or air freighted over.  In no way would I ever expect that to be enough to cover demand that is near to be ubiquitous given the fact that there is absolutely no risk to running a poorly attended event.  To be fair having a poorly attended event means you could sell the pack's for a far greater profit.  There is no way an advance shipment of product would satisfy all the venues that would attempt to get a kit.

My only issue is FFG treating the kit like a product and not like a Store Championship or Regional.  With a limited number of kits they should be allocating them to stores with demonstrated playerbases and strong connections to FFG.  By just selling them, and allowing dustributors to do so as well, they will ensure kits are not even distributed and that stores with no intention of running an event have gotten ahold of kits.

That's my only issue.  I don't see why there was any expectation that there'd be enough kits for every store that tried to get one to get one.

But remember, the promos are printed in house. In the US. There's no air-lift for this one. FFG could have had someone printing these off in their HQ basement everyday since early January and there would have been enough to satisfy all the stores that wanted it.

I agree that these forms are full of wine. I haven't seen any more product on ebay despite all of these people claiming that they are quiting.

Hopefully  these winners get back to Magic soon so we can start to see some decent post.
