Looking for a good Upsilon list help needed

Recommended Posts

My friend picked up and Upsilon for me so now I want to run a nasty Batwing list! Between my friend and myself we have multiples of everything and we proxy upgrades we don't have (which is rare, but when we play we usually just use squad builder print outs for ease of set up and keeping gaming area tidy).

So what good 1 or 2 Upsilon lists have you got?

I like thematic lists so bonus points for all FO ships but I'm not too proud to throw Palpie in there for extra shenanigans.

Major Stridan

FCS

System Officer

General Hux

Omega Leader

Juke

Comm Relay

Colonel Vessery

Adaptability

X7

Gone 2-0 with this so far. Stridan is a really good support ship with a really good offensive bite. Biggest mistake i have seen made is that my opponents ignore the shuttle to go after Vess or OL. Which lets Stridan run rampant with the 4 die primary.

as far as batwings this is what i got:

Whisper + VI + Kallus + FCS + ACD: 41

Major Striden + Advanced Sensors + Title + Palpatine + Weapons Guidance + Sensor Cluster + EU: 53

total: 94/10

the first time i ran this list i used Kylo pilot (big mistake) in this meta Whisper NEEDS coordinate, sadly kylo is the only guy with an ept, PTL would be so nice in this list.

Went 4-2 in the Denver Regional with this list:

40 - Starkiller Base Pilot/Electronic Baffle/Palpatine/HyperWave Comm

34 - Darth Vader/Tie X1/ATC/Engine/Adaptability

26 - Duchess/Adaptive Ailerons/VI/Lightweight Frame

Coordinating in a boost or barrel roll on the next turn is pretty awesome, :D even if you just park the shuttle and take a damage to do it.

You're spending a bunch of points on alternate ways for Striden to spend focus tokens.  Is that just because you had 10 points left and nothing better to spend them on?

I'd consider swapping out either of the tech slot upgrades for Hyperwave Comm Scanner. That will allow you to place your ships at PS9 and 12 keeping your opponent from being able to place his ships for what he considers a favorable run at the shuttle.

For those looking for a new Palp Shuttle, this is a solid framework.

Kylo's ability means you can bring the shuttle into combat, and your opponent has to make a hard decision to take the shot. With Omega Leader as backup, you've got one of the best ships to help slap a crit through even high-defense opponents.

Then you've got 32 points to flavor. The Inquisitor slots in perfectly with PTL, Title, and AT, or you can grab FCS on Kylo Ren and splash in your preference of Striker.

It's definitely a different breed of Shuttle, as it's a large investment, but I feel the ability to bring it into combat as a viable threat works fine. And folks getting behind it still want to think twice about shooting it.

KYLO'S STRIKE GROUP

100 points

PILOTS

“Duchess” (26)
TIE Striker (23), Wired (1), Adaptive Ailerons (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

“Pure Sabacc” (25)
TIE Striker (22), Veteran Instincts (1), Adaptive Ailerons (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

Kylo Ren (49)
Upsilon-class Shuttle (34), A Score to Settle (0), Fire-Control System (2), Inspiring Recruit (1), General Hux (5), Pattern Analyzer (2), Targeting Synchronizer (3), Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)

This was very fun! The Strikers hit hard and so does Kylo. The Inspiring Recruit allows you to, in concert with Pattern Analyzer, do a red move and still Hux without being action crippled forever. You could also drop Wired from Duchess for Trick Shot and 1 point bid (having both Strikers at 8 is actually pretty relevant so I wouldn't use Adaptability) or switch out the Recruit for Agent Kallus.

Also like this idea, but I haven't played with it yet:

HYPER-STRIKE

100 points

PILOTS

Lieutenant Dormitz (41)
Upsilon-class Shuttle (31), Collision Detector (0), Inspiring Recruit (1), General Hux (5), Targeting Synchronizer (3), Hyperwave Comm Scanner (1)

“Omega Ace” (25)
TIE/fo Fighter (20), Pattern Analyzer (2), Swarm Leader (3)

Imperial Trainee (17) x 2
TIE Striker (17), Adaptive Ailerons (0)

that's a reasonable suggestion now that you point it out, and i don't have anything else to spend those 10 pts on :P why can there just be a crew that grants an EPT slot idk "Loyal Copilot", striden would love PTL

points (100)

Major Stridan (49) - Upsilon-class Shuttle
Fire Control System (2), General Hux (5), Systems Officer (2), Pattern Analyzer (2), Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

"Omega Leader" (26) - TIE/FO Fighter
Juke (2), Comm Relay (3)

"Pure Sabacc" (25) - TIE Striker
Veteran Instincts (1), Adaptive Ailerons (0), Lightweight Frame (2)

stridan with EU can fly better. With pattern analyzer we can Red 1 then boost. Green maneuver gives free TL for OL and hux equip perfect eye for all spec group.

I won the only game in which I've used the following list. He wasn't an expert pilot but I ballsed up badly a couple of times and still managed to recover...

It's also a little more thematic, if a little less competitive as you mentioned.

The First Order

Major Stridan (32)

Hux (5)

FCS (2)

Systems Officer (2)

Pattern Analyser (2)

Omega Leader (21)

Juke (2)

Comm Relay (3)

2x Epsilon Pilot (30)

-Total--- 99

This gives you an additional ship over taking another ace. This means you're ultimately putting out more damage that is focused (with Hux) and splits your opponents targeting options further... plus it's cool having every ship in the fleet black.

Try one like this

Starkiller Base Pilot 30, total 38

Sensor Cluster 2+Recon Specialist 3

Advanced Sensors  3

An efficient gunship that basically has super Ysanne for one more point and resists blocking (something that happened when I flew it a lot)

I'm eager to try a First Order Aces list:

26 - Omega Leader: Juke, Comm Relay
33 - Quickdraw: Rage, Electronic Baffle, Title, Lightweight Frame
40 - Kylo Ren: Adaptability, FCS, Darth Vader, Inspiring Recruit

I like Vader crew on Kylo, as your opponent has a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario. You ignore Kylo and let me maximize my use of Vader, or you try to focus Kylo down and I get to trigger ISYTDS with Vader. The real trick is Rage/Baffle Quickdraw with Coordinate -- you use Kylo to Coordinate QD at PS5 or 7, use the action to Rage, use Baffle to clear the stress and then make your bonus attack during the maneuver phase -- perhaps before enemy ships have even moved or gotten tokens. Then QD gets to move, take an action, and fire again at PS9... brutal burst damage. These big heavy hitters hopefully make a good enough distraction that Omega Leader happily survives into the late game to do his thing.

It might be kind of unorthodox, but thus far I believe Dormitz has the best potential, with Stridan a close second, and prefer crew Kylo over pilot Kylo. Dormitz adds a layer of depth to the Starkiller pilot through his deployment shenanigans; if the opponent deploys anywhere near his position, you get a nasty alpha strike, and if he/she doesn't, then you've essentially denied a portion of their deployment area, all for the measly cost of a single point. With some good asteroid positioning beforehand, this can seriously put your opponent on the back foot before the game has even started. Here's the list I used in my first Upsilon game:

Lt. Dormitz (Collision Detector (why not? it's free!) + General Hux + Hyperwave Comm Scanner + Hyperwave Comm Scanner) - 38 pts

Pure Sabacc (A Score To Settle, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight Frame) - 24 pts

Howlrunner (Swarm Leader) - 21 pts

Epsilon Ace - 17 pts

Total 100 pts

I found that this list delivered a nice alpha strike before dying outright (I had a hunch that that would happen, but I absolutely had to try it!). Now I'm looking for better ships to use this tactic with as well.

Here's my next Dormitz Alpha Strike idea:

Lt. Dormitz (Fire Control System + Agent Kallus + Hyperwave Comm Scanner + Hyperwave Comm Scanner + Kylo Ren's shuttle) - 39 pts

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (Lone Wolf + Kylo Ren + Darth Vader + Rebel Captive + Engine Upgrade) - 61 pts

Total 100 pts

The idea is that Dormitz deploys at PS6, RAC deploys as far forward as possible, getting two evade tokens if the enemy has PS8+ or a focus token and an evade token otherwise. Dormitz moves first, Coordinates to let RAC boost, then he shoots forward with his own dial. He should be able to clear Range 2 from Dormitz, triggering Lone Wolf. He uses Kylo as his action, assigning Blinded Pilot to the biggest enemy threat in range, attacks with LW reroll and soft focus, and then uses Vader to trigger ISYTDS, shutting down that threat. In the meantime, with 4 attack dice, Kallus and FCS, Dormitz isn't a wimp either. I don't know how it'll work out, but it does look nasty...and a tiny bit suicidal, but oh well. Craziness is allowed until the meta settles down, right?

I've been thinking about how I want to run the shuttle and this is what I've come up with so far.

The idea is that the shuttle runs support, it hands out target locks as needed with Systems Officer and Focus with Hux, Duchess fulfills her standard role as an Arc Dodger and general pain in the butt and the Rhymer is there to strip shields and push extra damage onto people, I gave him Deadeye as it means he has more options for making use of his ordanance.

Actually, my other thought on the Shuttle breaks down like this:

Either we go for 4 ships and in this case the shuttle is there to follow around the TIEs and coordinate them and hand out target locks with the Targeting Synchronizer.  As for the TIEs, Omega Leader gets A Score to Settle as once he target locks the ship with A Debt to Pay then that ship can't modify dice anymore, Omega Ace gets Cool Hand so that he can produce a Focus Token at exactly the point you want to take advantage of his ability.

OR we go for fewer ships but a more loaded out build.  In this case the shuttle uses advanced sensors to pick when to take its action and uses the experimental interface to proc uses of Fleet Officer or Kylo Ren.  Then the Omega TIEs can still use the target locks from the Synchronizer and be coordinated as needed; the TIEs have the same EPT/Tech as before but also add Stealh Device to increase their survivability.

It's a small thing to pick on, but it actually does not mean you're ultimately putting out more damage, focused or otherwise, as two of your platforms are pretty fragile and will die sooner than an Ace would (hopefully, assuming you don't have the worst luck/accident ever).

But you definitely open up your options for screwing with your opponent's targeting for a turn or two, your initial strike is a bit stronger, and you have more options for blocking.

Just ultimately putting out more damage is something you factor in over time.

Only list I've theorycrafted that I've not seen already.

"OL-D Kylo Special":

Omega Leader: Juke, Comm Relay (26)

Delta: x7 (28)

Kylo: Determination, FCS, Palp, Hyperwave Comm Scanner (46)

Seems like a potentially decent list, although I still haven't got the Batmobile to test it yet... In theory, OL can grab a focus from Coordinate along with her regular actions to stay alive since she will be the one primarily focused on pushing Palp crits through. Omega is probably the most dangerous ship in this list, so I love that she is the least expensive and probably hardest to kill if she has a focus every round via Coordinate. Delta is just a delta, no real shenanigans there, just pure efficiency. The shuttle, while expensive, isn't really all that important since if it gets focused down first I've still got the Delta and Omega leader, who are probably moving last now thanks to PS0 crits. Even in a match between Commonwealth Defenders vs this list, if I only manage to trade shuttles I'm down on points, but if OL and the Delta are moving after Ryad and Vessery that is a winnable endgame. If they are using the old damage deck, I could potentially shut down both Ryad and Vessery's offense by giving Ryad the crit that makes her lose EPT and pilot ability, essentially making them both expensive Deltas.

Here's a NOT good Kylo load out. Fun. But not good.

Kylo Ren (34)
-Opportunist (4)
-Hotshot Co-Pilot (4)
-Recon Specialist (3)
-Weapons Guidance (2)

TOTAL: 47

Hotshot Co-Pilot forces the opponent's focus token to be spent if Kylo gets attacked first, not unlikely considering he's PS 6. Recon Specialist allows two focus tokens, one to turn a blank to a hit with Weapons Guidance, and the other to be used as normal to change focus results to hits. You could even throw FCS on there if you really think you'll get a shot at the same ship twice in a game.

EDIT: And throw Omega Leader (Juke + Comm Relay) and Omega Ace (Push the Limit + Comm Relay) to fill it out. Unless you're using FCS. Then you won't have room for Omega Ace's Comm Relay.
