With the official Gunboat full reveal, I converted my custom expansion to an Ace pack:

[new] Assault Gunboat custom expansion:

x_wing_miniatures___custom_gunboat_pilot

x_wing_miniatures___custom__ace_gunboat_

Will add a couple more upgrades (and maybe pilots) and put it in a ready-to-print pdf soon.

[old] Assault Gunboat custom expansion:

DESIGN NOTES:

It's an expansion that not only to add the "Imperial Y-Wing", but offer some useful upgrade cards.

The dial is a cross between the X-Wing and the Y-Wing. Maybe too good? The ship was quite capable of keeping track of the enemy in the PC games.

I made it 1 agility because this was hard to dodge enemy fire (maybe because of the large profile?) - but 2 agility wouldn't be far fetched (in this case, the hull or shield should be reduced).
Lore-wise, it would have 5 hull (equivalent to the Y-Wing) and 3 shield (better than the X-Wing), making it tough to kill.

It has only 2 missiles (lore accurate) and the cannon, but an upgrade card that allows it to replace 1 missile for 1 other ordnance (the ship was known to carry torpedoes when needed).

The "Alpha Strike" elite upgrade can be used by pilots with more than one ordinance/canon/turret, but it is specially useful in the Gunboat, allowing an easy missile+cannon combo. Would Tomax Bren be broken with it? You tell me. (if yes, I can restrict the upgrade to the Gunboat or just replace it with another card)

The Gunboat is the most produced/deployed Imperial hyperspace capable starfighter, which I explored in the title: "Imperial Reinforcements". It adds an interesting mechanic, which really differentiates the Gunboat of the TIEs. Since the common TIEs had no hyperspace, and the high tech, hyperspace capable TIEs (Defender, Avenger), are so rare that wouldn't be available everywhere, that's the job of the Gunboats. It also emulates the massive military power of the Empire and remind the PC old sims (where the Imperials are able to call Gunboats as reinforcements).
I don't know if the price is right (is deploying later, but where you want, actually a drawback?)

Xeal was a colleague of Mareek Stele's who was MIA and later returned to action with "Killer Eyes".
Noble Calder's ability is kind of uninspired, so suggestions are most welcome. Not many information about this guy, except that he was the commander of a squad (Veerpal?). Maybe he could be the lower PS unique pilot instead of Xeal (swap the PS of both).
I added the other guy (Arajen Turmen) here, with a wonky ability, as an alternative.
Mareek Stele piloted the Gunboat, but this wasn't one ship who made him famous (like the Defender, the Avenger and the Missile Boat).

Possible pilots: (in Legends)

  • Gunboat generics (Squadrons): Nu, Tau, Mau, Mu, Rho, Eagle, Raven, Talon, Veerpal
  • Gunboat uniques: Arajen Turmen, Noble Calder, Xeal (but not specially this ship), Mareek Stele

Phoenix Squadron "ace" expansion, based on the SW Rebels TV show.

x_wing_miniatures__phoenix_squadron_box_

(Here is the full bunch of A-Wing Rebels' pilots, if you don't mind one more Sabine)

x_wing_miniatures__b_wing_pilots_by_odan

x_wing_miniatures__custom_upgrades_by_od

b_wing_upgrades_by_odanan-daz7msw.gif

DESIGN NOTES:

Ace expansion focused on the TV series Star Wars Rebels for the Custom Card League 2nd Season

The Phoenix Squadron Pilot with 0 PS is not only a joke/reference to how bad they were in the series, but opens, along with the custom upgrades, a new way to play with the A-Wings (as cheap, swarmy blockers)

Phoenix Squadron Vets are straightforward. Those are the most talented (or lucky) pilots that managed to survive the series. They offer a cheap Elite upgrade.

Ahsoka, a canonical A-Wing pilot, got a new ability (something uncommon, but possible in this game, when changing ships) that gives her an “Ace Killer” status. Considering she beat the hell of Darth Vader, that’s a pretty cool ability.

Hera is just being Hera.

The exclusive A-Wing upgrades are all based on legends or canon material. It seems reasonable that the A-Wings in Rebels are not the more advanced RZ-1 models used later by the Alliance, but the (now Legends) R-22 Spearhead.

About the B-Wing:

The canonical Blade Squadron would fill the gap for the PS 3 and cheap elite.

Quarrie, the engineer that created the Blade Wing prototype got a negative ability and low PS, in accord to his statement “Oh I don't fly, too dangerous.” This is a guy that knows everything theoretical about flying, but who doesn’t seat in the cockpit. Sure his “inability” is compensated by a squad cost discount.

Braylen is the same pilot of the ARC, but now in his specialized ship (got and EPT for that). I wanted to give him a new ability, but couldn’t think of any at the moment.

And here is Hera again (should I change the name of the expansion to “Hera’s Ace Pack”?) :P

The Rotating Cockpit and Multi-Cannon are based on cards by Rakaydos. My Rotating Cockpit is simpler but weaker. And Blade Wing Prototype exists basically to allow the Multi-Cannon (which was designed to kill only ships with low agility).

The 3 crew upgrades are a tribute to characters that showed (or will show) in Rebels. I especially like the Hondo card (so many possibilities!).

PS: well, I had to add 2 B-Wing pilot cards not Rebels-related to complete the pack (but they are new canon and maybe even show up in Rebels some day).

Champions of the Empire, a TIE Interceptor + TIE Bomber "ace" expansion.

x_wing_custom_expansion_champions_of_the

PILOTS:

TIE Interceptor pilots: (miniature with alternative blue paint scheme and the two white stripes in the lower panels of the Avenger Squadron)

  • "Easy": PS7, elite (cost 25) Commander of the Avenger Squadron (composed by shielded TIE Interceptors and TIE Avengers).
  • General Weir: PS6, elite (cost 24) Commander of the Sunspot Squadron (composed of TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptors with torpedoes).
  • Apwar Trigit: PS5, elite (cost 23) Captain ("Admiral") of the ISD Implacable. Piloted a shielded TIE Interceptor.
  • Sunspot Squadron: PS2 (cost 19)
  • the unique pilots above are all "big bads" (from video games, books or comics) and all piloted modified Interceptors.

x_wing_miniatures__tie_interceptor_pilot

TIE Bomber pilots: (miniature in light grey, representing the units of the Scimitar Assault Wing)

  • Lumiya: PS8 + elite (cost 25) "The Dark Lady of Sith". Ability: something like the reverse of Luke's.
  • Kohl Seerdon: PS5 + elite (cost 20) Main villain in the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
  • "Brick": PS4 (cost 18) Maarek Stele's collegue - not necessarily a TIE Bomber pilot, but I like the nickname (and didn't found another TIE Bomber pilot).
  • "White Death" Pilot: PS3 + elite (cost 17) "White Death" is the nickname of the Scimitar Assault Wing (not to confuse with the Scimitar Squadron), commanded by Tomax Bren, with TIE Bombers painted in light grey.

x_wing_miniatures__tie_bomber_custom_pil

UPGRADES:

  • TIE/in: TIE Interceptor only. Title. Something to clear stress. I like very much the Rakaydos' 181st Fighter Group title, so the effect will be inspired by that (and still help Soontir).
  • TIE/x3: TIE Interceptor only. Title. This one represents the TIE Interceptor costly prototype that was later simplified for mass production and speed. It also fits with the Interceptors flown by the Sunspot and the Avenger Squadrons.
  • Chin Cannons: TIE Interceptor only. Modification. In the ROTJ, TIE Interceptors shoot also with their "chin" cannons. This makes those ships even more dangerous, but at cost of the repositioning.
  • No Shields all Guts: the green dice failed you? You have one more chance.

x_wing_miniatures___custom_tie_in_upgrad

  • Adv. Targeting Systems: Imperial only. Modification. The Scimitar Squadron had these, which made them deadly bombers. I found this effect easier than adding somehow 1 damage to bombs. BTW, this also helps two other Imperial ships: the TIE Punisher and (somewhat) the Firespray. EDIT: and Decimator!
  • TIE/sa: TIE Bomber only. Title. The TIE Bomber was known for its great accuracy in bombing and this title is meant to reflect that. The namesake of the ship is Bomber, after all. I might include something to allow the ship to bring more bombs.
  • Mag Pulse Torpedoes: a weapon from the old sims (but was mentioned in TFA). Reference card here.
  • Adv. Concussion Missiles: a weapon from the old PC sims.

[other stuff]

Most Wanted II, Scum "Ace" pack made in collaboration with @Razgriz25thinf. EDIT: outdated by the Guns for Hire official pack.

x_wing_miniatures___most_wanted_ii_custo

The YT-1300 cards are based on X-Wing: Alliance and the Kihraxz cards are based in Star Wars: Galaxies.

Scum YT-1300 pilots: (now with their Rebel versions too)

  • Ace Azzameen
  • Aeron Azzameen - pilot ability based on her hacking skills.
  • MK-09
  • Twin Suns Pilot (generic, ORS-like attack, but with greater durability and more reasonable pricing)

4_yt_1300_pilots_by_odanan-db7g850.gif

Kihraxz pilots:

  • Zekka Thyne ("He's got sharp ears, sharper teeth and the sharpest sense of retribution you've ever run into this side of a Wookiee bearing a grudge.")
  • Dal Perhi (Black Suns underlord)
  • Eyma
  • Viraxo Racketeer (yes, the Viraxo didn't pilot Kihraxz ships in X-Wing Alliance, but I guess if the game was released after SW: Galaxies, they would)

x_wing_miniatures___kihraxz_ace_pilots_b

Upgrades:

x_wing_miniatures___custom_scum_upgrades

x_wing_miniatures___custom_scum_upgrades

x_wing_miniatures___custom_scum_upgrades

Yes, I'm considering Vaksai as the "same ship" as the Kihraxz, which, to be fair, had a lot of variants and effectively "no two Kihraxz looked the same". The "box" would come with a Vaksai "miniature" (hint for your Kihraxz fix, FFG). EDIT: dang FFG lost this opportunity.

Cannon upgrade on the Gunboat's bar seems to be missing. Otherwise it'll be very difficult to equip Linked Ion Cannons.

Not really a fan of Imperial Reinforcements having a negative cost. Reactive deployment is already an advantage without a reduced cost.

Modular Launchers allowing any Imp ship to swap its Missiles for Torps or Bombs seems wrong. I'd like it better as Gunboat only.

Alpha Strike also feels unnecessary. It's thematic, sure, but removing ships turn one is such an NPE, see the Torpedo Scout's reign of terror.

These are awesome!

I know you haven't asked for feedback, but since this is a forum I will give it to you anyway :)

Some minor things that came to mind while reading this stuff:

  • In my opinion, the ps 2 A-wing should not have an elite slot. Test pilot title will give it one anyway for free.
  • Also, it feels kind of wrong with a ps 0 pilot. Better to choose ps 2 and ps 5 (20 points) or something like that
  • Ahsoka Tano already have an pilot ability (TIE Fighter). It would be more fitting if you use this ability for the A-wing also instead.

Dang, somehow I used some old version of the pilots. Will fix that.

Hmm... so 0 cost for the Imperial Reinforcements?

Modular Launcher was designed to work too with the Gunboat's sister ship Missile Boat. It's non-TIE only, so what other ships will get boosted? - Just the Slave 1, I guess.

And is Alpha Strike so powerful?

I love "Veteran Co-Pilot", though I think it is a little cheap.

Combine it with the 0pt "Two-Seater" and the existing A-wing title and you can have 3 EPTs on an A-wing. That's cool and I think a nice way to bring the A-wing back. But overall it costs 1pt for probably some strong combos.

PTL / VI / Juke - Jake

PTL / Rage / Daredevil / Experimental Interface - Tycho

Of course costing it too high makes it not worth it since you still have to pay for the EPT itself. Maybe 2pt?

Would definitely run it on Hera in the Ghost, if only to give her VI/Navigator.

Han could take VI and Adaptability making him a potential PS12.

And that's just rebels.

These are very well done. I am not even a big "Gunboat Guy" having never really played the old sims, but I really want that expansion now. The Phoenix squad box looks really good too. Good Job!

PS: I'm currently unemployed so FFG (or anyone in the game industry) please hire me! Will work for peanuts and accept any job (if possible in home office).

If this guy got a job I would be happy for him.

You're right, that doesn't leave too many ships in the Imperial arsenal now does it? For now just the Firespray (which can also use help). Carry on!

Not too OP... (it's still an A-Wing, after all)

You have outdone yourself with the Phoenix Squadron Expansion Pack! It is awesome!

To all people calling some cards overpowered, please remember how many official cards have been released that felt too powerful before they hit the tables, and then they rarely saw any play.

  • Two-seater with Tycho and Hera is a Z-95 that has all dial white. Hardly overpowered for 27 points.
  • Multicannon is worse than Heavy Laser Cannon most of the time. In this age of tokened defenses, most of the time this weapon will be firing against 4 or 6 green dice, plus some evade and focus tokens. I think it will hit less often than HLC, and deal, overall, less damage. It seem to be only good versus Rebels and huge ships. But given that it can only be equipped on the B-wing prototype, it will probably blow up before it makes its point cost back, since the B-Wing is no longer considered a sturdy ship by today's standards.
  • Rotating cockpit is really thematic! But it doesn't "fix" any of the problems B-Wing currently have (they are jousters that have been outjousted by more recent ships). I would go as far as making it be a version of Tycho's ability for some point cost. Or even "You may spend stress tokens as if they were evade tokens". That would make B-Wing have a chance versus Defenders.

For the rest, I only have praising and compliments. :)

Thanks for the compliments!

For the Rotating Cockpit, what about something like this: "When defending, if you are stressed, you may change 1 of your blank results to an evade result." or "After performing a barrel roll, you may assign 1 evade token to your ship." (I want to keep it 0 cost because, as a standard issue for the B-Wing, it needs to be auto-include)
