Cubanboy 6,380 Posted January 28, 2017 It just hit me that this is the year a new L5R is coming and I could not be more excited. For a time my brothers and I played this game way back in the 90's right before my older brother went into the Air Force. I could not be more excited to jump back in and play again. Hinomura 848 Posted January 29, 2017 I always say there's no such thing as an ex-L5R player, only a lapsed one. Certainly one of the aspects of the relaunch that I'm most excited about is seeing players who have left the game come back and give it another chance. When you add that to the increased profile and exposure the LCG will have and the chance to share the game with a completely new audience, it's a cause for genuine optimism and excitement for sure. 5 Nerd Rage, cielago, Bayushi Shiori and 2 others reacted to this

I have a private Facebook group for friends of mine interested in attending GenCon this year for the release. It was specifically set up to help people organise the trip around L5R's release, and as such, every person on there is either a current or former L5R player. There are currently 135 people in the group. 5 cielago, Sparks Duh, Isawa Tasatu and 2 others reacted to this
Nerd Rage 4 Posted January 31, 2017 I started playing L5R on the first week of its release way back in 1995. I haven't played the game for about 20 years now, though I have checked up on it every few years since then. Finding out that L5R was sold to FFG and would be re-booted as an LCG was probably the most exciting hobby related news I have ever received. I'm trying not to build my hopes up too high but I'm very optimistic that FFG will do something great with it and I absolutely plan to jump back in. And let's take a second to appreciate what this game has survived: 3 changes of publishers, 3 changes of card fronts, 2 changes of card backs, and now a complete change of the game itself - and I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm all-in on this new game. And excited to be so! How does this little world keep doing that? On 1/30/2017 at 10:51 AM, Nickciufi said: Anyone else thinking about going to GenCon just for the release? Hinomura 848 Posted February 1, 2017 It's a shared social creative experience unlike any other. We're invested in the game world, the mechanics, and most of all (for me personally, that is), the community. We've built something together that is bigger than all of us, and you're **** right it's exciting to be able to share that with friends old and new again. Utz! 3 FunTimeTeddy, BayushiCroy and Sparks Duh reacted to this

That elusive and priceless 3rd component to every game: community. Your personal dedication to community-building is admirable and ever-impressive Mark! (This is Kevin). Despite my lack of interest in modern format and cons and such, you can be sure I'll be re-positioning myself as absentee-scrub-extraordinaire. i.e. loser who shows up when life allows. Hinomura 848 Posted February 1, 2017 You only lack interest in Modern because you haven't tried it yet. We even had a Unicorn deck built ready for you at the last event! Looking forward to catching up with you again soon, man!
FunTimeTeddy 111 Posted February 2, 2017 Fair point! Sometimes it comes down to mundane practicality: I've been working weekends. Yep. Super lame.
