Familiars question

Recommended Posts

I was playing a Delve last night, it was a stage where frequently an effect would happen where it says "all heroes must test x, if they fail move 3 spaces back towards the entrance. Test is modified by -1 shield for each adjacent hero".

It said "heroes" and "hero", not figures. This wasn't a peril. Would familiars treated as figures like the Reanimate, Beastmaster's wolf, etc. count in any way for this? As either having to test (and autofail), or when calculating the penalty for adjacent heroes?

RtL rules mention that Peril effects don't affect figures treated as heroes, but this wasn't a peril effect. The notation of "figures treated as heroes" is interesting though, I don't see that notation in the core rules about familiars. Page 17 and 18 reference that some familiars are treated as figures, but not "figures are treated as heroes". Is this stated somewhere else?

I also wonder if familiars treated as figures need to be adjacent to the portal to leave a stage of the delve? Whether familiars treated as figures means the figure is a hero or not would answer this question as well I think.

In respect to familiars the terms "treatet as hero", "treatet as hero figure" and "treated as figure" are synonym.

Familiars treated as heroes

  • can be targeted or affected by attacks, Monster actions, Hero abilities and feats, hero skills, abilities of items, relics, Search cards and Overlord cards.
  • are not affected by ally skills, quest rules that refer to heroes, Plot cards and all other game effects unless specifically noted otherwise.
  • Familiars are removed from the map and corresponding tokens are discarded in between stages of The Delve , except Brightblaze, who is positioned adjacent to Challara when heroes are placed on the map of a new stage. All other familiars need to be summoned again.

Thanks Sadgit. So, yes, they are treated as heroes, but the effect that was happening wouldn't affect them since it falls under "other game effects". And they don't need to be adjacent to the portal for everyone to leave, since that would fall under quest rules that refer to heroes.

Question, can your familiar use its turn at the start of your activation, then use your activation to summon a new familiar, then give him another turn in that same activation?

Nope. This is addressed in the FAQ.
