Early but the Pelta needed a Weapons Team slot. No reason not to.

It is very early to call but the Pelta needed a Weapons Team (WT) slot. It isn't great without it.

 

• With WT there is nothing that would be too degenerate. 1) It has 2 Red Dice and is Speed 2. There is nothing to fear from Gunnery Team.
• The Pelta is the only nautral black dice battery ship without WT. It can take Expanded Launcher, APT, Flechette andddd has no reolls. Why bother? Why would they release flechette and give no Rebels no viable ship for it.
• It's so weak and lacks defensive options and speed so who cares if it has a WT slot. It's more expense on a defensively weak ship, that's the trade off
• At the price the Guppy is better for Squadrons. Flight Controllers, Boosted Comms, ECM, Speed 3, average battery. Why pick Pelta for a squadron pusher with so many downs?

I fully support asymmetric design but this seems like a missed oppurtunity, maybe to serious a charge but actual bas design. I think Rebels deserve a second WT carrier. This is from an Imperial player.

 

Summary: perhaps they felt Pelta would be too strong for the squadrons with Flight Controllers, considering that any other WT is of very limited value on the Pelta I don't think any issues would arise considering:

• VCX relay 1
• Squadron 3 if Boosted Comms but even Raymus at 4 is not terrible and seems pretty fair anyway
• The Pleta is defensively weak so the more upgrads you put on it the juicer target it is

 

PS: don't play much rebels, haven't tried entrapment stuff which is rated highly but still the Pelta really pines for a WT slot. To me it makes 0 sense that it doesn't have it.

... The Pelta is a horrifyingly good carrier.  The combinations are absolutely incredible (sorry, they're not mine to share though).  Trust me, as a carrier, the Pelta has it.

What I will say it lacks is the ability to do damage.  The Assault variant is.. kinda lack luster imo.  Can't take Turbos nor Torps, basically can only rely on Raymus and Intel Officer to boost damage. Maybe Engine Techs.

It doesn't have one because Sato and ordinance experts are the DEVIL. Putting that on a ship for 56 base points that can potentially roll 4 black dice would be too good. And I say that as a Rebel who loves the Pelta.

That, and to me, half of the point of the Pelta is getting Squadron 4 for 65 points...  Less than the Price of an Assault Frigate....

Because the Pelta could get 5 for 71, if it were allowed a Weapons team slot for its current points.........

It's an even greater problem than the VSD faced in Wave 2 (though Tua has removed this problem). I have options for Weapons Slots/Ordnance etc...but I'm so weak all I can do is push squadrons.  There is nothing wrong with pushing squadrons but it seems as if this is the only thing the Pelta will ever be doing despite having apparant options to play it in a more offensive role.

 

If not both Peltas surely the Assault Varient deserves one!

I'm finding a lack of customization for the Assault variant.  But then again, I'm finding a lack of need for ships period.  

 

Yavaris, Pelta, 3 transports.  Done.  

I get 5 red dice + 2 blue for my entire list due to how slow these move.  oh and NO COMBAT UPGRADES.  No turbos, no intel officer, no con fire, NOTHING. 

 

And to repeat, same thing that Dras said: The Command v. easily gets 4-5 squadrons activations for something like 65 points.

I'd make an argument that the Pelta is not made to be a damage dealer. If you want it to do that with a weapons team slot, you want another ship. The Pelta is made for the fleet upgrades it came with. And Dras is right, activating that many squads for 70sum points is crazy, and adding Flight Controllers is down right scary. Or taking RS and FT to shut down squads and deal some damage. Seems to good to be true.

 

But then again, I'm not a huge fan of the Pelta. I like to play very agressive fleets. Not really into the support ships, so take that with a grain of salt.

Assault Pelta with expanded Launchers, Raymus Antilles, shields to max and protection experts is how I've been rolling mine with a sato list. Ya it's squishy but I keep it back to move in after the first few shots are fired and annihilate weak targets with 6-7 blacks from the front. Shields to Max I've only tried 3 games so far but it's paid for itself usually.

It really needs some way, anything at all, to give it black AS rerolls. The Flechette Launcher is one of those obviously-released-for-the-other-faction upgrades that we all love so much, and the only reason why is that lack of a weapon slot.

That said, I have one with PE and Entrapment in my 500-point CC fleet. I just finally got to field my full 500-point fleet tonight for the first time, and EF is phenomenally good at 500 with the MC30 swarm. If my Pelta could have also been locking down squadrons willy nilly... I might have called it too powerful.

I think they are super fun in CC and helpful with their awesome abilities, but yeah in uber optimized tournament play they don't do enough for the points.  4 flight-controlled AFMKII squadrons with a comms net token feels better than 4 regular squadron activations, and is on a sturdier platform in my opinion.

This is funny. This is basicly the same as the concept for the gozanti list.

The damage is coming from the squadrons, and not from the ships.

You don't need the ships anymore when the squadrons can do the same (or even more damage) as you could do with alot more points in ships.

134 points in squadrons can easy handle/kill 300 points in ships.

 

 

It really seems the lists are shifting to a full squadron focus.

Time for the ultimate anti squadron version .

 

 

I do like the Pelta. Both versions. They both have their own reason and special. Even when the command is a bit better.

4 points is not such a bit difference. But compared to the extra two squadrons you get, it is really cheap.

The assault has to be played total different, than it will shine and find its place.

As an Imperial player with a lot of Rebel friends, I just don't see it.

 

Has no ability,  besides All Wings Follow Me, for critical squad support.  Just none.  Great, it has squad 3.  So does the VSD, and we've seen it essentially die a long, slow death over 5 waves.

This ship, and the Interdictor, have been 100% ignored in our local CC games, arguably the games most likely to see odd combos due to the increased fleet size and non-standard fleet rules.  Neither ship has a place.  It just doesn't perform any job effectively for the points.  And before you ask, every one of our Imperial players (myself included) has an Interdictor.  It just has no fleet role except as at best an unkillable rock that survives without giving up points.  Which is absolutely infuriating when you only get one game every two weeks.

Pelta is a strange one for me. I love the model and i'd like to use more but I always find there's another ship that's better suited to the purpose I'm trying to use the Pelta for.  I want a carrier - the AF just seems to offer more with Flight Controllers and more tankiness.  I want to use the Assault - the MC30, or the other AF again offer slightly more reliable ships for that role. I think in part it's the stronger front arc which is a challenge since it tends to lead to going head to head with the front arc dominated Imperial ships, which is never a good idea.

Its Squad 3.  That means it can potentially throw 5 Squadrons a Turn.  

Yes, a VSD can do that.  But a VSD is pushing 80 Points for that to happen, whereas this is 65 - which, incidentally, leaves you more points for those squadrons.

It shares a defensive profile much similar to the Gladiator.  Which, as we know, isn't great, but it also doens't need to close to point blank range to work.

 

Its a compromise...  Almost a committee-based compromise...  But in that way, it is providing something that both the Imperial and Rebel side don't have - a Mid-Size, large-compliment carrier, for Sub-70 points.

I like it, for the reasons people have listed.  I'm far too "casual" of a player to know if it's actually any good at any other level, but I feel like it's a great counterpoint to the Interdictor conceptually.

Interdictor: Good ship support.  Increased control of your opponents' fleet.

Pelta: Good squadron support.  Increase control of your own fleet.
