Mad Cat 2,250 Posted January 24, 2017 I held out hope that FFG would bring out a new version of BFG using mostly the armada mechanics. Sadly with the recent divorce of FFG & GW it doesn't look likely.
outerrimrebel 316 Posted January 24, 2017 I hold out hope that later this year we'll see a BFG box game with some support, much like they've done with Blood Bowl and the 30k boxed game. 1 Daemon d6 reacted to this

Pretty sure they're rumored to be bringing back the Specialist Games section at GW.
Green Knight 9,732 Posted January 24, 2017 what do you guys think about the feasibility of making a BFG game using the armada rules? also please add your ideas for ship stats I did tinker with a Vassal extension with BFG ships. It had some basic Imperium and Chaos ships. It's on the back burner now, has been for a while.
Marinealver 8,073 Posted February 4, 2017 Considering GW pulled all their licensing from FFG, I would say none. Now if just taking a look at game mechanics. Possible but I don't know if it fits the same scope. The standard 40K Cruiser is the size of a Super Star destroyer. Squadrons are more like guided torpedoes/anti-torpedoes. You could do something along those lines but I would say get the BFG game on steam if you need to scratch that 40K space itch. 1 Norsehound reacted to this

As someone who played the tabletop for a number of years, I thought the video game was a relatively faithful rts adaption. My biggest complaint is that multiplayer is hard to get a match in with and fleet sizes are too small. 1 Grey Mage reacted to this

Because once you get a couple of ships, it's either crazy micro-management or sit back and let the ai run everything. Also some of the special abilities are very rts and not something I recognize from the 40k universe. But mostly it's just not fun.

So just like Star Wars empire at War Space skirmish or Sins of a Solar Empire. I will admit it is not Star Craft 2 nor does it capture the exact play by play experience of Tabletop BFG with the Real Time aspect but for me it works. Now if only they could bring in the Tyranids (shouldn't bee too hard), the Necron (without them being so OP as they were in the tabletop game) and the Dark Eldar (with more than just two ships). BFG is not complete but it still get the essence down. Sure it is not as refine as Star Craft 2 but that is two decades of RTS experience there, Blizzard is one of the few companies that likes to retain its employees. Also some of the special abilities are very rts and not something I recognize from the 40k universe. But mostly it's just not fun. Admittedly, micro-managing is a weak point for a lot of RTSs in my book as well, but there is the pause button which was expressly implemented in multiplayer in addition to single player to make the micro-managing easier. I have yet to have someone complain to me that I pause the game too much in a match. In fact, most of my opponents in games pause the game more frequently than I do. I usually take the opportunity to micro a few orders while the other player has paused the game to reduce the total amount of time that the game needs to be paused. As far as things not in the tabletop that are in the video game version: the 40k universe is intentionally set on such a large scale so as to leave plenty of room for ambiguity (i.e. new units, weapons, entire races and factions). I mean Tau did not exist when I first got into 40k, but they are here now in addition to all sorts of new weapons systems etc... for existing factions. The ability to teleport a bomb in front of an enemy ship seems plausible enough for BFG even if it were not expressly there in the tabletop. In fact, I'd like to see something like that implemented should the tabletop ever get revived. Edit: Also, you're free not to enjoy a game. Totally cool if it simply doesn't appeal to you. I have a friend who really really really wants to get me into every shooter ever made. He has a twitchy finger and he likes a good head shot. But it's not my thing. I always preferred the role of a commander myself. And it's okay for both of us. Edited April 15, 2017 by PubliusClaudius
