Ackbar and Jedi Temple

Recommended Posts

I have Ackbar.

The battle field is Jedi temple.

My opponent has two cards in hand (both events).

I claim the battle field.

Does Ackbar trigger?

Ackbar says: "After an opponent plays or discards the last card from their hand, they choose and deal 2 damage to one of their characters."

Bold added by me.

Jedi Temple says: "Look at an opponent's hand and discard up to 2 events of your choice from it."

From the wording of Ackbar it seems clear that it must be my opponet that does the dicarding in order for him to trigger. For Jedi temple, it is not spelled out quit as clear, but it looks to me like it is the one who claims it that does the discarding, not the opponent whos cards are being discarded.

So my interpretation would be that Ackbar doesn't trigger. But I'm interested to hear if there are other interpretations.

Yes, it does trigger.  There is no timing window for Ackbar, so ANYTIME they play or discard their last card in hand, his ability triggers.  That even includes discarding cards right before you draw cards.

My interpretation has to do with who does the discarding and not with timing.

Clearly there are differing oppinions on that :)

Even though you are choosing the cards your opponent is still the one that is discarding because the cards are being discarded from their hand.

Reading a bit more in the RRG I found this under "Discard" on page 9, describing how to resolve the discard symbol on dice.

Discards random cards from an opponent’s hand equal to the value of the symbol.

If an opponent does not have as many cards in hand as the value of the symbol, then they discard all of their remaining cards.

Bold added by me.

The first sentanse is worded kind of the same way as Jedi Temple, indicating the player who resolvs the ability does the discarding. But the second sentanse says the opposite, thart it is the opponent who does the discarding.

So I guess I would have to change my interpretation and assume that any time cards are discarded, it is the owner of the card that technicaly does the discarding, regardles of the source of the discard. If not, the standard discard symbol on dice would not trigger Ackbar either, unless the opponent has less cards in hand then should be discarded. And that seems way to situational.

So consider my oppinion changed. Ackbar triggers any time the last card leavs his opponents hand, regardles of how it comes to do so.
