What I learned from Rougue One

Recommended Posts

...

Why the Rebelion didn't seem to have much of a fleet to attack the death star with.

I thought it looked like the Rebellion was already well to equipped. They could strike anywhere and everywhere it wasn't like they were on the run as they were in Episode 4 and 5. It sort of have the Supreme Commander strategy where the Empire was on the back food from these break away states and they had to bank their military strategy around completion of this one super weapon.

I was hoping for evacuation of a Rebel base then the Rebels go to Yavin 4. To me it seemed like Rouge one followed the video and table top games like Rebellion and Battlefront than they followed the movie.

Until this battle station is fully operational, we are vulnerable. The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped!

;)

The Empire has to protect like... everything. Rebel base is hidden, so they don't need a defensive fleet, they can mass all their ships to achieve a local superiority and then scatter, regroup and strike another target.

I want a door gunner on my U-wing!

It takes 6 ion tokens to disable a star destroyer (3 ion bombs)

Why the Rebelion didn't seem to have much of a fleet to attack the death star with.

There are at least five Y-wings launching at least two torpedoes each :P

Are you sure? ... I guess I'll just have to watch the movie again to double check my math.

Wouldn't have really fit in. We know they were on dantooine before Yavin, and the empire didn't know about either until they captured leia....

Ywings pretty much always kick ass, except in the game. Their power is even less represented than the Xwing itself is on the table.

The Twin Laser Turret Y-wing is actually still not bad - which is kind of weird because the one thing we still haven't seen in a film is a Y-wing firing its guns.

For a door gunner, what about something along the lines of "As long as you have no damage to your hull, you may attack ships outside your firing arc" maybe for 2 points? May not be realistic, but who cares, its a freakin door gunner in freakin space haha

This movie makes me think Garven Dries was better than a PS6 :)

Some of those scenes were amazing though, like the X that went up evading tie fight fire, splashed one, then K turned around the star destroyer bridge and slooped down back of it. I wish my X-Wings could rock that hard in game!

Thats the thing though. In Xwing theyre just a TLT platform, pretty much only taken over the HWK because for a couple points you almost get twice the HP (and if denied its TLT atleast it has a 2die main gun...)

In any other game or the movies, theyre something that hammers ships with immense power but cant do jack diddly to other fighters so they have to be escorted. Theyre faster than Bwings so they can still fend for themselves if they have to though. Of course this kinda makes no sense in Xwing since aside from Epic there are no ships large enough to justify them being like that, but all that really means is they cant blanket-fire torpedos because a fighter/freighter is nimble enough to require proper aiming and locking systems to hit, while an ISD is point in the general direction and click.

Eh..... You might want to go read the X-Wing comics again.   Soontir Fel treats them pretty much like FFG  at Brentaal IV.  It's a bloodbath. "Horton Hears a Butt-Whooping".

On the other hand, what I learned from Rogue One is this...  For the past year, I've seen Rogue misspelled as Rouge (or occasionally 'Rougue'  lol ) so often, that I've begun to doubt my own spelling.  I have to double-check it every time.  Now that I've seen it spelled properly up on the big screen in Gigantic Lucas-Font, I'm pretty confident again.  :)

Thank you for using 'learned' instead of 'learnt'.

learn
lərn/
verb
past tense: learnt; past participle: learnt
  1. gain or acquire knowledge of or skill in (something) by study, experience, or being taught.
    "they'd started learning French"
synonyms: acquire a knowledge of, acquire skill in, become competent in, become proficient in, graspmaster, take in, absorbassimilatedigest, familiarize oneself with; More

  2. archaic informal
    teach (someone).
    "“That'll learn you,” he chuckled"

They're meant to be heavy bombers/torpedo boats. If a Y-Wing has to attack with its guns something has gone terribly wrong (in the movies, they usually fly with escort X-Wings to act as their guns).

Learnt is entirely acceptable.

Rougue however, is neither Rogue nor rouge.

Agreed, learned and learnt are both fine.

I quite like "Rougue".  It's like the Rouge joke and the actual title rolled up together.  And you can guarantee that ONE of those letter Us is in the right place :D

Agreed. What I meant was, that's why it's kind of a shame that the most reliable use for them at the moment seems to be as turret caddies rather than as bombers or torpedo bombers.

This movie makes me think Garven Dries was better than a PS6

He had Veteran Instincts with R2-D6 in the back, clearly.

Vectored Thrusters? Clearly the rebels were carrying a lot of upgrades. Jan Ors probably on one of those transports, too.

I will be interested to see what they do. The space battle is too awesome not to see them do something with it, and seeing Y-wings made back into torpedo bombers (much like TIE bombers back where they should be) plus X-wings showing off, and the cast of new pilots (including General "Mustache" Merrick)

I haven't read all the comments yet so maybe someone already said this but you way off. Clearly the rebellion had grown to a decent size, decent enough to have a strike force but notice that they threw everything they had (in a surprise attack) at the empire lost a ton of ships and then were on the run again after losing that many ships. They weren't nearly all powerful and that wasn't half the empires fleet, not even a quarter. I've said my peace continue.

Re: Y Wings. Y wings need to suck in 100/6 games. Because where they need to shine, is in Epic games against huge ships.

Or rather, they don't need to suck in 100/6 games, but their speciality needs to be taking out large/huge ships with bombs and torpedoes, not using turrets. I'd do something like give them a free target lock against large or huge ships, or when targeting a large/huge ship they don't have to discard a TL when instructed to, or roll extra dice against large/huge ships or SOMETHING.

I quite like "Rougue"

That makes it sound like some kind of French soup.

The loss of two ISDs probably came as a bit a shock too. Adds some more context to that line in ANH: "Dangerous to your starfleet Commander; not to this battle station."

One of my favourite things about Rogue One is the way it makes ANH appreciate in value. Watching ANH is even better now than it was before.
